IT'S SHOWROOM NEW, GARAGE KEPT WITH ALL SERVICE COMPLETED ON TIME. IT HAS HEATED/VENTILATED LEATHER SEATS, HIDEAWAY REAR WINDOW SHADE, CD PLAYER, SUNROOF AND WOOD WRAPED STEERING WHEEL AND TRIM. THE MINOR ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN FLORIDA LAST JULY, IT WAS A VERY LOW SPEED (5MPH) WHEN ANOTHER CAR RUBBED ITS RIGHT FRONT TIRE ONTO THE RIM ONLY OF THE LEFT REAR OF THE LEXUS RESULTING IN TIRE RUBBER ONLY ON THE RIM. THERE WAS NO CONTACT TO THE PAINT OR SHEETMETAL AND IT DID NOT HARM, FLATTEN OR DAMAGE HER TIRE IN ANY WAY. IT WAS ALSO BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION THAT ON THE VEHICLE REPORT IT SHOWED A THIEFT. THAT IS INCORRECT, WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW, MY ELDERLY MOTHER IN LAW LEFT THE CAR PARKED AND LOCKED IN FRONT ON HER HOME AND THAT THE CITY HAD IT TOWED AFTER MIDNIGHT FOR THE NO STREET PARKING CURFEW. ORIGINALLY SHE REPORTED IT STOLEN UNTIL THE POLICE RECORDS LATER THE SAME DAY SHOWED THAT THEY HAD IT TOWED TO THEIR POUND FOR THE NO OVERNIGHT STREET PARKING CURFEW RESTRICTIONS. Lexus joins subscription craze with Complete Lease
Thu, Feb 7 2019Lexus is the latest automaker to offer a vehicle subscription service, even if it isn't marketing it that way per se. The luxury brand is launching Lexus Complete Lease as a "full-service lease program," but if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, well, you get the idea. The program is offered exclusively with the 2019 Lexus UX subcompact crossover, both the UX 200 and the UX 250h hybrid, in all trim and option levels. Lexus is teaming up with roughly 80 dealers for the program in seven states: California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. And it's touted as a simplified monthly payment that includes insurance, scheduled maintenance and other services. So it's a subscription service, OK? More specifically, Complete Lease involves a two-year term capped at a total of 20,000 miles. Insurance is provided by Travelers and includes a $250,000 per-person and $500,000 per-accident bodily injury limit and $250,000 property limit, with a $500 deductible, though other rates and coverage can vary by state. You also get two years of connected vehicle services including SiriusXM satellite radio and Lexus Enform Remote Destination Assist on models equipped with Navigation. There's no word yet on Complete Lease pricing; Autoblog sought that information from Lexus and will update this if we hear back. But we know that the UX is the lowest-priced Lexus, starting at $33,025 for the UX 200 and $35,025 for the UX 250h. For comparison's sake, those are in the same ballpark as the respective starting prices for Volvo's XC40 crossover and S60 sedan, which are available under the Care by Volvo subscription service starting at $700 and $750 per month, respectively. Krafcik says US Gov. shutdown is slowing Oct. auto sales
Tue, 15 Oct 2013The government shutdown is eroding consumer confidence in the auto market, says John Krafcik, CEO of Hyundai's US sales unit, and could lower October sales by as much as 10 percent, Automotive News reports. "It's that anxiety that keeps customers, potential buyers, on the sidelines when making a big purchase like an automobile," Krafcik says, adding that industry sales could be off by five to 10 percent in October compared to September.
The fourth quarter, which started October 1, usually consists of increased auto sales as dealerships clear their lots to make room for the next year's models. Leading up to the fourth quarter this year, the auto industry was doing well in the fragile, recovering US economy, although September deliveries decreased by 4.2 percent, due in part to this year's Labor Day sales being recorded for August.
To help its customers, Hyundai announced it is deferring new-car loan and lease payments for furloughed federal workers until they're called back to work and also offering them a three-month payment deferral if they buy a new Hyundai in October. "We have already had requests from over a thousand people to have their payments deferred," Krafcik says.
J.D. Power study sees new car dependability problems increase for first time since 1998
Wed, 12 Feb 2014For the first time since 1998, J.D. Power and Associates says its data shows that the average number of problems per 100 cars has increased. The finding is the result of the firm's much-touted annual Vehicle Dependability Study, which charts incidents of problems in new vehicle purchases over three years from 41,000 respondents.
Looking at first-owner cars from the 2011 model year, the study found an average of 133 problems per 100 cars (PP100, for short), up 6 percent from 126 PP100 in last year's study, which covered 2010 model-year vehicles. Disturbingly, the bulk of the increase is being attributed to engine and transmission problems, with a 6 PP100 boost.
Interestingly, JDP notes that "the decline in quality is particularly acute for vehicles with four-cylinder engines, where problem levels increase by nearly 10 PP100." Its findings also noticed that large diesel engines also tended to be more problematic than most five- and six-cylinder engines.
