1999 Lexus Es300 Base Sedan 4-door 3.0l on 2040-cars
Los Angeles, California, United States
Hello!
I'm selling my 1999 Lexus ES 300. I am the second owner after inheriting this car from my Grandfather's estate in 2009. He purchased the car new in 1999. My girlfriend and I are going to consolidate to one car and therefore we don't need this one any more. I have kept it in the best possible condition. The dash and interior have been treated regularly with leather treatment and Armor All, and the chrome wheels have been kept tidy with twice yearly chrome polish. There are small scratches on the front and rear bumpers, and two shopping cart style dings on the drivers side. (did not chip paint) Other than the scratches, the paint is in great condition. No signs of wear from UV rays. The price is higher than blue book because of the money I have put into the maintenance. The factory transmission failed two years ago (apparently a common-enough defect of some Lexus and Toyota models from this time), and I had it replaced for just under $4,000. Also the timing belt / water pump / 90k mile maintenance was performed by a Lexus dealer last year for $800. Tires are in good condition. Installed about 25k miles ago. I have all records and receipts of all repairs, parts, oil changes, and smog checks. At the end of the day, this is a Toyota, and it has many more miles to go. It's a safe car and easy to drive. It would be perfect for anyone getting their first car. Please let me know if you have any questions! Thanks. -Kevin |

Lexus pushing upmarket as others move down, LF-LC production hinted [w/video]
Mon, 09 Dec 2013Jeff Bracken, Lexus' US group vice president and general manager, knows his company lost its position as America's biggest luxury brand back in 2011, and it's a mantle that his employer probably won't be getting back any time soon. That's because Lexus is electing not to follow the luxury segment's downmarket trend any more than its $32,500 CT 200h hybrid hatchback. "Since we won't be going down below $30,000, it will be very difficult for us to ever regain luxury leadership," Bracken admitted on Autoline After Hours late last week.
Rivals Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi all have new low-end entries on sale or in the wings to entice new buyers and fortify their CAFE scores, but Lexus has Toyota and Scion to capture sales underneath its lineup. Instead, Bracken hints that Lexus is going upmarket and higher-performance, fueling ongoing rumors of a LFA successor, or perhaps a new offering based on the lauded 2012 LF-LC coupe concept shown above, a production version of which could also slot in where the unloved SC convertible left off. "We need to begin bringing to market luxury performance... higher performance vehicles. IS-F certainly was the beginning of that, maybe on the lower end," says Bracken.
Later in the online video interview show, Bracken gets even more candid:

Bring back the Bronco! Trademarks we hope are actually (someday) future car names
Tue, Mar 17 2015Trademark filings are the tea leaves of the auto industry. Read them carefully – and interpret them correctly – and you might be previewing an automaker's future product plans. Yes, they're routinely filed to maintain the rights to an iconic name. And sometimes they're only for toys and clothing. But not always. Sometimes, the truth is right in front of us. The trademark is required because a company actually wants to use the name on a new car. With that in mind, here's a list of intriguing trademark filings we want to see go from paperwork to production reality. Trademark: Bronco Company: Ford Previous Use: The Bronco was a long-running SUV that lived from 1966-1996. It's one of America's original SUVs and was responsible for the increased popularity of the segment. Still, it's best known as O.J. Simpson's would-be getaway car. We think: The Bronco was an icon. Everyone seems to want a Wrangler-fighter – Ford used to have a good one. Enough time has passed that the O.J. police chase isn't the immediate image conjured by the Bronco anymore. Even if we're doing a wish list in no particular order, the Bronco still finds its way to the top. For now (unfortunately), it's just federal paperwork. Rumors on this one can get especially heated. The official word from a Ford spokesman is: "Companies renew trademark filings to maintain ownership and control of the mark, even if it is not currently used. Ford values the iconic Bronco name and history." Trademarks: Aviator, AV8R Company: Ford Previous Use: The Aviator was one of the shortest-run Lincolns ever, lasting for the 2003-2005 model years. It never found the sales success of the Ford Explorer, with which it shared a platform. We Think: The Aviator name no longer fits with Lincoln's naming nomenclature. Too bad, it's better than any other name Lincoln currently uses, save for its former big brother, the Navigator. Perhaps we're barking up the wrong tree, though. Ford has made several customized, aviation themed-Mustangs in the past, including one called the Mustang AV8R in 2008, which had cues from the US Air Force's F-22 Raptor fighter jet. It sold for $500,000 at auction, and the glass roof – which is reminiscent of a fighter jet cockpit – helped Ford popularize the feature. Trademark: EcoBeast Company: Ford Previous Use: None by major carmakers.
