Vehicle Overview For only the third time in 32 years, Land Rover redesigned its posh Range Rover sport utility vehicle for 2003. This British-built SUV is longer, taller and narrower than its predecessor, and it's got an all-new, stiffer monocoque body with an integrated chassis.
For 2005, this Range Rover gains automatic headlights, a touchscreen interface and a fiber-optic system for multimedia components. The Harman Kardon LOGIC 7 surround-sound audio system has been upgraded to 710 watts, while the phone integration system incorporates Bluetooth capability. Improved approach and departure angles make the current model even more capable off-road than its illustrious predecessor.
Exterior Land Rover notes that many traditional design features are evident, including a clamshell hood with castellations and a horizontally split tailgate. Distinctive power vents are installed behind the front fenders.
Bi-xenon headlights and a sunroof are standard. Independent front and rear suspensions employ interconnected air springs. Front and rear Park Distance Control is included.
Interior Range Rovers seat up to five occupants. Interiors may be trimmed in luxurious leathers with cherry wood or burl walnut. The 60/40-split folding rear seats jackknife forward to increase cargo space. A foldable, removable cargo cover is included.
The navigation system includes on-road and offroad functionality with a "bird's eye" view. A six-CD changer sits in the rather skimpy glove box. Three-zone automatic air conditioning is standard, and a heating function for all seats and the steering wheel is optional.
Under the Hood The 4.4-liter V-8 produces 282 horsepower and 325 pounds-feet of torque. The ZF five-speed-automatic transmission permits manual gear selection, and permanent four-wheel drive includes a Torsen torque-sensing center differential. The two-speed transfer case can be shifted from Low to High while on the move. Range Rovers can tow up to 7,700 pounds.
Safety Antilock brakes, Dynamic Stability Control, side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain-type airbags for all outboard occupants are standard.

Jaguar-Land Rover is not what you'd call a volume automaker by any stretch of the imagination. But in the dozen years since it started manufacturing at its Halewood plant near Liverpool, England, the automaker has already built its millionth vehicle. The landmark vehicle is a Range Rover Evoque, done up in white with red roof and mirrors, black wheels and a red and black interior. The crossover is set to be donated to Cancer Research UK, which will auction it off next year to help fund its projects in the north-west of the country. Halewood started manufacturing the Jaguar X-Type in 2001, then went on to assemble the Land Rover LR2 / Freelander 2 before taking on production of the Evoque a year and a half ago. The facility reached the 300,000-unit milestone just last year as production moved to a 24-hour cycle for the first time in either marque's history.
Jaguar Land Rover might add another chapter to its venerable motorsports legacy by purchasing the revered UK racetrack Silverstone to use as its new company headquarters. JLR could reportedly offer 22.7 million pounds ($34.1 million at current rates) to buy the circuit, according to Automotive News Europe, which cites several British media sources. The British automaker would then invest the equivalent of $78 million to turn the historic track into a celebration of the brand, including a museum, experience center, and hotel. The company would also construct space for its marketing team and engineers, Automotive News Europe reports. Motorsports would still continue there, too, which means the course's Formula One legacy is safe. Neither JLR nor the British Racing Drivers' Club, which leases the track, have confirmed the rumors. The BRDC only suggested that it received several confidential offers to purchase the circuit. Silverstone has a motorsports history that goes back to the late 1940s and is often the home to the Formula One British Grand Prix. The track's organizers have a long-term deal to continue hosting the F1 race, too. Today, the course also features major events from MotoGP and the FIA World Endurance Championship. In November, Jaguar released a video that celebrated some of its legacy at Silverstone by bringing the modern XJR and Le Mans-winning XJ-R9 LM at the track. LONDON — Laid off tech industry workers in Britain could find a new home at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), as the 100-year-old luxury carmaker looks to hire hundreds of engineers to help develop electric car technology. The carmaker, which wants to become an "electric-first" business from 2025, on Friday announced a jobs portal for displaced tech workers to fill 800 roles spanning self-driving, electrification, machine learning and data science. The company said it believed workers leaving big tech groups like Amazon were most likely to have the required skills to fill new roles in Britain, Ireland, the United States, India, China and Hungary. The majority of the jobs will be in Britain. The hiring drive comes after thousands of layoffs in recent weeks at U.S. tech firms including Twitter, Meta and Amazon, some of which have offices in London and Dublin, Ireland. "Our digital transformation journey is well underway but being able to recruit highly skilled digital workers is an important next step," Chief Information Officer Anthony Battle said in a statement. JLR last year announced an electrification strategy under which all Jaguar cars would be fully electric by 2024 and an electric option would be offered across its entire portfolio including Land Rover.
