1998 Land Rover Range Rover HSE 4.6

I purchased this car in 2011 and am the 4th owner.  I have meticulously repaired and maintained the car with the idea of keeping it forever.  After recently acquiring more toys, my garage space has become limited so unfortunately she needs to find a new home.  I will do my best to detail everything about the car.  I have spent lots of time and money to keep her in great shape so the sale is a bit bitter-sweet for me.  I have invested well over $8,000.00 in the last three years into the car.

Condition of car:

Engine runs strong, does not smoke or burn oil, she runs well for 179k miles.  Transmission run well and shifts through all gears. Both front differentials have been replaced with low mileage used units, filled with synthetic fluid and use a disco magnetic drain plug to accumulate debris and extend life.  Both front wheel bearing/hubs have been replaced (expensive parts).  All electronic system work and function properly while there are (NO CODES) or dash lights indicating any errors or repairs needed.  I have only 1 key but key fob works great.I also have the original Land rover leather book in the glove box with the manual. Paint is in decent to good shape and is original although she has a few dings and small scratches as most 16 year old cars would have.  I would give the paint  a 7 out of 10 as I am a stickler for detail.  I have made my best attempt to show the imperfections in my pictures in the spirit of full disclosure.  Interior is good, there are some scratches on the door panels from a previous owners dog but could be easily repaired by a interior specialist.  Leather seats are in good shape with no tears.  Rear seats are perfect while the fronts are decent but could use a redye to get back to original condition.  Brakes have been replaced and serviced all around (pads and rotors).  Headlights have been updated with XENON HID and I have the original lights if you want to revert back to OEM. Front side markers have been updated to euro white style and the front yellow markers are replaced with VALEO OEM Japanese style clear markers (Very hard to find).  By getting rid of the yellow in the front of the car it has more Euro look.  Every component has been replaced or rebuilt in the air suspension system and works like a charm. I am including a extra rebuilt EAS pump in the sale.  Many people tear out the beautiful air suspension systems in these cars because they have a hard time fixing the systems.  If you know P38's, part of the beauty of this car is its ride quality and self leveling air suspension.  When loading 6 or more people + luggage the ride is instantly adjusted so the car is riding at the perfect height.  Tires are new Firestone Destination ST with about 60-70% tread left. The tires are a great balance - they are very quite on the highway but handles well in rain and snow.  Its the perfect all weather tire for the car.  Rims are in great shape for the original Mondial's and have not been repainted or harshly curbed. There are a few scuffs on the edges of a few of the rims but overall they are in great shape. AC blows cold, compressor is new and system has been recently charged. Exhaust has been updated with a $650 stainless steel Magnaflow system.  Cats have been replaced with Magnaflow system as well so in essence new exhaust from the manifold back. Fuel injectors where upgraded with Bosch Gen3 for better gas mileage.

I have spent over $8,000.00 in the last three years bringing this car to great mechanical condition.  Here is a list of work that I have had done:
  • New Firestone FS Destination ST XL Tires (70% tread left)
  • Front differential replaced with a low mileage used unit (disco magnetic drain plug)
  • Rear differential replaced with a low mileage used unit (disco magnetic drain plug)

There is a bit of a small dent on the rear hatch (as shown in pictures) and some other small dings around the car as shown in the pictures. There is a very light scratch on the front left side of the bonnet as shown in pictures.  I have also included a video link to see and hear the car running.

The only existing issue I know of is the drivers door lock tumbler works intermittently however its not an issue as the keyfob works flawlessly to enter/exit and lock the car.  I think its just a loose connector rod in the door.  Other than that the car is in great shape, everything works as it should and the car drives well  The rear hatch has been debadged I have the Original Land Rover badge and will include with the auction.

Priced to sell fast the auction starts at $ 4,200 with no reserve. Car has clear Florida Title and I will require a $250 down payment within 24 hours of auction end.  Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs or pickup although I will help coordinate from my end with any shipper. Car is sold with no warranty or guarantee.  Feel free to email me any questions and PLEASE serious bidders only.  Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!

Jaguar Land Rover to cut output and jobs due to Brexit, diesel slump

Fri, Apr 13 2018

LONDON — Britain's biggest carmaker Jaguar Land Rover will cut around 1,000 jobs and production at two of its English factories due to a fall in sales caused by uncertainty around Brexit and confusion over diesel policy, a source told Reuters. Output will be cut at its central English Solihull and Castle Bromwich plants, affecting some 1,000 agency workers, the source said. A spokesman at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) declined to comment on the number of jobs which would be lost but the firm said it would be making changes to its output plans. "In light of the continuing headwinds impacting the car industry, we are making some adjustments to our production schedules and the level of agency staff," the company said in a statement. It is not renewing the contracts of a number of agency staff at the Solihull site and would be informing staff on Monday of its plans for the 2018-19 financial year. In January, the firm said it would temporarily reduce production at its other British plant of Halewood later this year in response to weakening demand due to Brexit and tax hikes on diesel cars but did not detail any job losses. Jaguar sales are down 26 percent so far this year whilst Land Rover demand dropped 20 percent in its home market as buyers shun diesel, concerned over planned tax rises and possible bans and restrictions in several countries. "It's been obvious to everyone that sales have been dropping," the source said. British new car registrations have been falling for a year which the car industry body has partly blamed on weakening consumer confidence in the wake of the Brexit vote, after record demand in 2015 and 2016. Automotive Grade Linux will be the backbone of your connected car

Fri, Jan 6 2017

Creating a backend for a secure, reliable, and expandable infotainment system is costly and time consuming. The Linux Foundation, a non-profit organization, has set out to promote and advance the Linux operating system in commercial products. Automotive Grade Linux, or AGL, is a group within the Foundation that seeks to apply a Linux backend to a number of automotive applications in a variety of vehicles from various suppliers and manufacturers. AGL's goal is to create a common, unifying framework that allows developers and manufacturers to easily implement applications across platforms. Currently, the focus is on infotainment systems, but AGL has plans for instrument clusters, heads-up displays, and eventually active safety software. At CES, a display from Panasonic showed a completely digital and customizable dashboard that allows information and apps to be moved from the gauge cluster to the infotainment screen and back, all through the use of gesture and touch controls. Although the organization has been around for five years, it's really only been in the past three that the group has been working hand in hand with automakers and suppliers. The first two OEMs to participate, Toyota and Jaguar Land Rover, have since been joined by Mazda, Suzuki, Ford, and, as of this week, Daimler. The latter is important as until now most of AGL's partner's have been based in Japan or the US. Other partners include suppliers Denso, Renesas, Continental, Qualcomm, and Intel. AGL want's to supply roughly 80 percent of the backend, allowing partners to then finish and refine the Linux system for each individual application. Think of how the Android operating system is refined and customized for individual smartphones from Samsung, LG, and Motorola. While the final product looks different, developers can have an application that will work across all AGL systems. Because it is open source, anyone can use and develop for AGL. You can even go onto the group's website and download a copy right now. There is also a software development kit available that helps facilitate app creation on the platform. Vehicle development cycles take roughly five years, so there currently are no cars that run an AGL backbone available for consumers. AGL Executive Director Dan Cauchy says products should be hitting the market later this year, with even more coming in 2018. Right now, the industry is relatively fragmented when it comes to infotainment and related systems.
