1990 Range Rover Great Divide Replica Vehicle & Expedition Package

1990 Range Rover Great Divide Replica Auction
Land Rover is auctioning a restored 1990 Range Rover and an opportunity to attend the 25th anniversary Great Divide expedition.  All proceeds from the auction will benefit Tread Lightly! and its goal of promoting responsible outdoor recreation through ethics education and stewardship.  The highest bidder will purchase the vehicle and be a guest of Land Rover on a 9-day adventure across some of America’s toughest terrain in the 25th anniversary Great Divide Expedition from September 3-12, 2014.

Restoration of the 1990 Range Rover
This Range Rover rolled off the assembly line in August of 1989 as a 1990 model. It was produced in the same month that the original Great Divide Expedition was underway.  This California vehicle was originally purchased new in San Francisco.

This Range Rover was fully disassembled by factory trained Land Rover technicians and examined from front to rear.  A body-off frame restoration was completed.  A remanufactured 3.9 litre V-8 engine was fitted along with a remanufactured ZF transmission.  Axles were disassembled and checked for wear and rebuilt to factory specs.  New brake pads, rotors, calipers, ABS accumulator and pump were installed along with upgraded braided stainless steel brake hoses.  Additionally, new springs, shocks, steering damper and all suspension bushings and ball joints were added.  A new four core radiator, water pump, hoses, belts, A/C compressor and receiver drier were also added.  The above-mentioned parts were either original factory parts (where available) or were rebuilt to factory specifications.

The entire interior was removed, the monocoque painted, resealed and insulated. New carpets, headlining and interior leather were reinstalled.  The body was painted in single stage original Chamonix White with a true replica of the Great Divide graphics and decals.

The vehicle is being sold “as is” and features aftermarket expedition accessories and equipment, including a refurbished original Aussie aluminium “Range Rover” embossed winch bull bar with new Warn 8000 lb. winch and custom built expedition roof rack with 5 lights.  Original Range Rover three spoke wheels were restored with new original specification Michelin 244 M&S tires plus spare, with an additional spare mounted on the roof rack.

This is as close to a brand new 1990 Great Divide Expedition Range Rover Classic as you might ever see. As many original parts were retained as possible.  This is a truly hand restored 1990 Range Rover that is a replica of the original vehicles used on the Great Divide Expedition in August 1989.

Land Rover & Tread Lightly!
The inaugural Great Divide Expedition in the fall of 1989 helped launch Tread Lightly! as a national non-profit focused on fostering an ethic of good stewardship to proactively protect recreation access to America’s lands and waterways.  Land Rover supports responsible off-road practices as a founding partner and continued supporter of Tread Lightly!.

To commemorate this legendary journey, a fleet of Range Rover vehicles will travel nearly 1,000 miles of unpaved roads and 4x4 trails along a portion of the original Great Divide route. Throughout this expedition, participants will navigate narrow rocky trails with steep drop-offs and mountain passes over 13,000 feet (4,000 meters). Using stock 2014 Range Rover vehicles with no special modifications, Land Rover will demonstrate its continued leadership at providing off-road capability with exceptional luxury.

Cargo ship carrying 1,200 Jaguars and Land Rovers deliberately run aground [w/video]

Mon, Jan 5 2015

A cargo ship carrying a load of new cars out of Southampton has run aground in the English Channel in between England and the Isle of Wight. The vessel apparently suffered some sort of failure just 45 minutes after leaving port that caused it to list heavily to the starboard side before the crew deliberately beached it on Bramble Bank to prevent the ship from capsizing altogether. The vessel, called the Hoegh Osaka, is a 590-foot car carrier weighing some 57,000 tons and registered in Singapore. Although several automakers (including Honda and Bentley) were reportedly looking into whether they had cars on board, the vessel is said to have been filled to approximately one-third its capacity, with 1,400 vehicles on board – including 1,200 Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles, 65 Mini models and one Rolls-Royce Wraith. 70 to 80 pieces of construction equipment were also said to be on board. The Hoegh Osaka was en route from the southern British port of Southampton to Bremerhaven, Germany. Fortunately, no major injuries have been reported. The crew was mostly airlifted by helicopter off of the beached ship, with two crew members evacuated by lifeboat. One crew member reportedly jumped over 25 feet off the ship into the water before being immediately retrieved by rescue workers. According to the Daily Mail, two crew members were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken leg. It may take several days, if not longer, to extract the vessel from the sand bank and ascertain the damage to the ship and its cargo. An early attempt to free the ship with tugboats failed, meaning that the Maritime and Coastguard Agency may have to wait until more favorable high tides to try again before towing the ship back into the port. Bramble Bank, where the vessel was run aground, is a well-known obstacle to maritime navigators. The Queen Elizabeth 2 ran aground there in November 2008 with 1,700 passengers on board, but was quickly freed by four tugboats and was able to continue on its way. Two local yacht clubs also play a cricket match there every year at low tide. The vessel's operator, Hoegh Autoliners, praised the skill and quick thinking of the crew in acting to prevent the ship's capsizing by running her aground on the soft, sandy shoal. Jaguar Land Rover's InMotion takes a stab at carsharing

Wed, Apr 13 2016

Jaguar Land Rover's new InMotion mobility business aims to capitalize on the growing carsharing boom and develop other forms of alternative transportation. The first pilot programs kick off in the coming months in North America, Europe, and Asia. JLR owns InMotion, but the company acts independently from the automaker. "As a start-up business, InMotion combines the flexibility and pace needed to compete in the ever-changing mobility sector. It allows us to react quickly to new tech and ever-changing customer demands," Adrian Hallmark, JLR's Group Strategy Director, said in a statement. The 30-person firm intends to develop its own answers to upcoming transport problems and also invest in entrepreneurs to develop those solutions. InMotion isn't yet providing many details about what projects the firm expects to tackle, but the Website mentions carsharing and on-demand delivery services. Establishing InMotion shows that JLR doesn't want to fall behind the current trends in the auto industry. Practically every major automaker is currently pursuing future transportation ideas. For example, Ford recently took a very similar approach when it spun off Smart Mobility into a separate startup. BMW also rebranded its DriveNow carsharing service into ReachNow to also add a future ridesharing service. Next month InMotion will begin real-world testing of a number of different services such as car sharing and car ownership solutions, across North America, Europe and Asia in the coming months. Jaguar Land Rover says key models in short supply, some have six-month wait lists

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

Care for a bit more proof that the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio of vehicles is the best it's ever been? Well, the Indian-owned pair of brands saw a record year in 2013, while 2014 has seen a 14-percent increase in sales. The crazy thing is, though, is that figure could be even higher, provided the company had the production capacity.
JLR is running a six-month waiting list on two of its most popular models, the Range Rover Sport (above) and Range Rover. According to Mark White, the company's chief technologist for body engineering, the blame can be placed on the paint shop at the company's Solihull factory, in the UK.
"We will probably max out the paint shop before we max out the body shop. Putting the second body shop in has given us the flexibility to ebb and flow the different models that go through there and meet the capacity demands we've got," White told Automotive News. "However, you always hit a bottleneck somewhere. And the paint shop is probably going to be the next biggest obstacle."
