2004 Land Rover Discovery 2

Introduction:

Your search for that perfect ’04 has ended!  The ’04 Discovery is the crowning achievement of the Discovery lineage with all of the advancements, refinements and heritage that you could hope for.  That said, I am thrilled to offer this excellent example to the “Rovering” community.  This particular truck, as you will read below, is at the top of its class with its RARE options package and COMPLETE servicing profile.  Previously owned by a Sony Record executive, no expense has been spared in making this one of the best ’04 Disco’s out there.

Service and Reliability:

As factory a trained, certified technician gone independent, I pride myself on making sure that all of my client’s trucks and restoration projects receive the finest service with genuine parts and expert skill.  As this gorgeous truck stands right now, she is a thrill to drive and takes to the motorways at speeds over 100mph in total confidence with no shimmy, shakes, hesitations, or rattles of any kind.  She does not overheat, tic or stumble and the shift quality is excellent with no clunks or slap.  All windows, sunroofs, controls and options work as they should.  The following is a list of all of the servicing done to ensure that your ownership experience is as enjoyable as possible!

Driving and Comfort:

As I previously mentioned, this vehicle was owned by a music executive and in a business where clout and presentation are everything, he has serviced and upgraded this truck accordingly.  One of the finest upgrades to this vehicle is the touch screen alpine unit.  The speakers have amazing concert quality sound and the luxury of touch screen function makes this vehicle feel as modern as what’s available in the showrooms now (the owner was enough of an enthusiast to know that original equipment has value and he saved the factory radio just in case the OEM equipment was desired).  Additionally, I cannot stress enough how CLEAN AND IMMACULATE this vehicle is.  The pictures speak for themselves, but the sense of newness is still in this vehicle.   The tires are in great shape and sit on 18” factory “Hurricane” style wheels.   The air conditioning is ice cold and responds immediately as well as the heat being all encompassing.   Around town in Beverly Hills, this vehicle is a total head turner and with all of its recent servicing and transmission in selectable “Sport” mode, I can leave even the new full sized Range Rovers in my dust when the light turns green.  On that note, the CDL function in this vehicle works perfect and velvety smooth – another ’04 ONLY achievement.  The ’04 ONLY instrument cluster owes its aggressive styling to the performance and engineering accomplishments of BMW, the company which owned Land Rover through ‘04.  Finally, one of my PERSONAL favorite options is the upgraded advanced headlight assemblies.  Not only do they project a beam pattern that was years ahead of its time, the lamp assembly itself includes two vertical amber side markers; a final nod to the Discovery’s heritage and evolution from the first Series Vehicles of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.  With this truck having been put through our rigorous process, you get all of the performance, quality and heritage that is TRUE Land Rover pedigree.  There are no engine warnings whatsoever – and the illuminated cluster shows that all bulb check functions are intact and operable.

Purchasing, Perspective and why buy from ME:

KBB values this vehicle at $8000 in excellent condition, which it most certainly is in.  It’s value is set apart from the pack due to over $5000 of retail servicing to ensure reliability and enjoyment for the long-term.  Other sellers just wash and sell them… leaving you to deal with the maintenance... usually right around the corner.  When you buy a Land Rover from me… you are buying one of the most thoroughly prepared units available… after all, I have been driving, servicing and RACING them for over 10 years.  You have an opportunity here to pick up a great truck.  That being said, most of you are familiar with high performance automobiles and perhaps this will be a 3rd or 4th Rover for you.  They produce great results and require due attention to maintain performance.  While I have done everything possible during the time I have had this vehicle, it is not immune to maintenance needs and the new owner should be prepared to service it accordingly.  No older British Car can ever be considered perfect and you should not expect that.  In my opinion, this vehicle is a 9 out of 10 due to minor surface blemishes and normal wear and tear on an otherwise clean interior.  The seats are in great shape, are soft and resemble the wear of your favorite baseball glove.  While the vast majority of the drive-train has been serviced, you should still expect to see normal saturation and drips of surplus fluids such as AC condensation, engine oil, etc (I do not believe in “steam cleaning” engines just to make them shiny.  This hides the current working condition of the motor and can additionally damage engine management sensors).  While there are no leaks from this truck, I want to point out  a popular bumper sticker available from Atlantic British used among long-time Rover enthusiasts which says “If it doesn’t leak it’s not a genuine Land Rover!”  This expression illustrates well the patience and enjoyment REQUIRED by the do it yourselfer as well as the most discerning collector.  I encourage you to ask any and all questions NOW!!!  There is no question too small or obscure.  This vehicle is sold AS IS and I have done my best to reflect its current operating condition.  Anything that you may need more information about, now is the time and it is your responsibility to be satisfied before-hand!  Purchase of vehicle means satisfaction!!!  That said, as I am not a dealership, I do not offer any kind of warranty, HOWEVER, as a fellow Rover owner, enthusiast, and technician who races them, I have basic items readily available in the shop. So for example, if a switch goes out or a fog light gets smashed or you need an alternator, I am happy to accommodate you within a reasonable amount of time.  I do not set a time limit on what I consider “reasonable;” I will decide what is appropriate based upon your needs at the time as well as what I have available.

Finally, the winning bid is THE ACTUAL PRICE OF THE TRUCK.  Please bid what you are prepared to pay ONLY.  Winning the auction does not mean you can negotiate the price and your win will subsequently be forfeit.

I have sent Rovers as far East as Singapore, far west as the South Pacific, and as far south as Costa Rica.  One vehicle is even en route, being driven, to Antarctica via Tierra Del Fuego… having started his 15,000 mi + journey when I picked him up at LAX!    I say all of this because I believe in the lasting quality of the vehicles I prepare and every owner becomes a repeat and loyal customer.  Every other seller and everyone else, is just… well… everyone else…

This vehicle is a pleasure to drive, functions as it should and has my FULL CONFIDENCE to take you wherever you want to go.  There is no reserve so Good luck and happy bidding and HAPPY ROVERING!!!

Genesis cars win accolades, offer value — so why are sales so bad?

Tue, Jul 31 2018

My high-school buddy Brent Cormier was so smitten with the Genesis G80 when he saw it at an event I hosted at SXSW in 2016 he bought a used 2013 Hyundai Genesis a short time later and fell in love with the car. "It surpasses my every expectation," said Cormier, a self-described "renaissance man" who owns and runs a real estate agency with his wife Laura, is a food service executive chef and part owner of Austin-based Thin the Herd Guitars. "I was locked into Mercedes and Audi for 10 years," he added. "And felt trapped in an endless pit of maintenance costs." After owning the Genesis over the past two years — including using it as an Uber and Lyft driver to earn extra cash — Cormier learned what some frugal luxury sedan buyers and a handful of car reviewers have discovered: Genesis offers great bang for the buck compared to other premium brands and can compete with the best in terms of performance, features and comfort. Hyundai's luxury brand also earned a prominent third-party endorsement last week when for the first time Genesis topped J.D. Power's 2018 APEAL study, surpassing German luxury-performance icon Porsche. The APEAL study (which stands for Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout) "measures owners' emotional attachment and level of excitement across 77 attributes," ranging from performance to comfort, and asks nearly 68,000 owners of new 2018 models to score vehicles on a 1,000-point scale. In its second year ranked as a stand-alone brand, Genesis earned an APEAL score that bumped it up 15 points to 884 and helped push it past Porsche — and past BMW, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Cadillac, Land Rover and Lexus, in order of ranking. Last month, Genesis also topped J.D. Power's Initial Quality Survey (IQS) for the first time this year. And both its models were awarded Top Safety Pick Plus ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, among 11 Plus ratings in all for Korean vehicles. Despite high J.D. Power rankings and great reviews, Genesis U.S. sales were off 50 percent for the first six months of 2018 compared to 2017, and in June Genesis sold only 796 vehicles — the first time U.S. numbers dropped below 1,000 in a month. Part of Genesis's APEAL and IQS success can be attributed to its small product lineup: just two models, the G80 and G90 sedans, with a third, the 2019 G70, launching later this year. And while those numbers may help in J.D.
