Rioja Red on Bahama Beige: Inspired by the wine region of La Rioja in Spain, this deep red looks nothing less than sensual! If you have been looking for a beautiful, serviced, low mile, wonderful driving Discovery, wait no longer!
Background: Let me begin with a little background. It was ordered in a BEAUTIFUL color and option package. To begin with, this is the fantastic SE model. The SE model and this specific truck were optioned and were graced with Land Rover "Deep Dish" (the factory name) wheels, wood accents, partial wood center console and few other wonderful trim pieces. This truck was dealer maintained for most of its life! Originally first sold in Arizona in December 1997 and serviced at the Jaguar Land Rover dealer in Scottsdale for 3 years, the truck then moved to San Diego and was serviced at Land Rover Miramar for 6 years. After San Diego the truck moved to Los Angeles in 2007 and was serviced at the wonderful Land Rover of South Bay dealership. The Condition and Service: This truck has been ENTHUSIASTICALLY and PROFESSIONALLY maintained and serviced and is a high standard for Rover service! Let's start on the engine and drivetrain: This engine has LOW MILES (less than 6,500 a year), only 108,000 miles appear on the odometer and the entire truck shows the same care. There has been A TON of scheduled and preventive maintenance performed to this truck to keep in near brand new condition. The engine is very healthy and has loads of smooth power! -HEAD GASKETS As part of the preventive service schedule, this truck received brand new OEM head gaskets and OEM headbolts. It was installed by a master Rover tech with several decades of experience. The truck runs COOL as can be and has never overheated. -UPPER AND LOWER ENGINE GASKETS While being serviced, the valve cover gaskets, valley pan gaskets, valve stem seals, upper intake gaskets and crank seal, all resealed among a few other minor seals. NONE of these were leaking, but were done in order to keep with the same high regard and care. -LOWER ENGINE Great shape, no knocks or mechanical issues!! As with ALL Rovers there is some minor "moisture" at oil pan seals, power steering etc. Its the British car way. That said the truck leaves no puddles or drips. -RADIATOR The radiator was cleaned and rodded in order to keep maximum flow and keep this beauty nice and cool. The temp needle NEVER moves past 7/8pm even with the AC on and in traffic. -HOSES New OEM hoses -IGNITION Brand new Champion coppers (the RIGHT plugs) and wires. -BATTERY BRAND NEW Bosch battery!! -EMERGENCY BRAKE Recently adjusted and tight, only a couple notches on the handle holds the truck tight -TRANSMISSION The trans was just given all new fluid and shifts great! -DIFFS and DRIVESHAFTS New gear oil in the diffs and lubricated u-joints -SWIVEL BALLS Fresh grease, serviced and shims -FUEL PUMP The truck received a brand new fuel pump a couple years ago to replace a weak pump. Great fuel pressure and runs like a beast! Lets move to the suspension and brakes: -BRAKES BRAND NEW OEM brake master cylinder! BRAND NEW OEM brake pads in the front and rear - loads of pad life! The truck brakes great. No ABS lights! BRAND NEW front rotors! -SHOCKS Great feeling OEM shocks. They are soft on bumps and tight in corners. The trucks handles wonderfully! -STEERING The steering is tight and has no excess play as you may find in MANY Discoveries. BRAND NEW steering stabilizer! -4WD SYSTEM 4WD Low and High both work great! No transfer case whine! Let's continue to the exterior: -PAINT The paint is very nice! It is a 8 out of 10 easily. the truck was repainted in stock Rioja Red a few years back. NOT because of an accident. CLEAN and CLEAR CarFax. Rioja Red from the factory tended to fade and the clearcoats wear weak. This truck was repainted with a nice paint job that while not perfect, shines and looks fantastic. There are few minor dings which are very hard to see in pics and in person and there are some touch ups to the paint on the truck on various parts of the truck. See the last pic below for an example. Remember this is a 16-17 year old truck, there may be some minor scratches, wear etc, but they are well below any expectation level for Discoveries or cars of this year. I try to explain these the trucks the best I can! Its hard if not impossible to see in pics and you have to be right up on it to see it in person. Could almost not mention it just trying to be thorough!!! -TIRES BRAND NEW Firestone Destination tires. 90%+ tread! -WHEELS The wheels are in great shape with no major flaws or curbing. The Deep Dish look fantastic on the truck! -MUDFLAPS All 4 mudflaps intact and in great shape! MOST Discos are missing at least one. Not this beauty! -SPARE TIRE COVER Beautiful new black spare tire cover looks great and clean! -GLASS Not to let a pebble defeat this truck, the windshield is great shape! -TRAILER HITCH The Disco has a factory trailer hitch and is wired up and ready to tow. Onto the cabin: -SEATS The Bahama Beige seats are fantastic!!! There is NO tears, NO seams coming apart. They are incredibly supportive with what feels like zero foam wear. The leather is SO soft. The rears I'm pretty sure have never been used. They are so soft and buttery!! -DOOR PANELS One of the big things with Discos is the top of the drivers side door panel gets cracked...not this one! All of the panels are free of dents or major defects. -HEADLINER The headliner BRAND NEW. OEM Rover headliners tend to sag over time due to poor glue. Worry not with this brand new OEM color replacement! -CARPET Nice carpet in the truck. There is a little wear on the passenger side trans tunnel, but no holes hidden by floor mats or issues! That aside the carpet is very nice. New rubber floor mats up front in great shape! Carpet floor mat in the rear is good shape with a few minor stains. -POWER SEATS All power seat functions work perfect! Hard to find in a Discovery! -HEATED SEATS Heated seats work!!!!!!! A huge rarity in a Disco!!! Wonderful for those chilly nights! -POWER LOCKS All doors lock and unlock with central locking function. -POWER WINDOWS All windows work smooth and quickly! -SUNROOF Front AND rear sunroofs work great! -RADIO/CD CHANGER OEM radio has been changed and replaced with a Kenwood head unit and Focal speakers. Sounds good! Has a little hum at low volume but hard to hear once you turn the volume on. -AC/HEAT AC is ice cold and Heat is earth core hot! -MIRRORS Power mirrors work perfectly! -WOOD Nice wood on the console, doors and dash! -STEERING WHEEL The leather is very nice, no tears or issues! -CARGO AREA Cargo cover in place and operating (usually they are missing!). Rear carpet is nice, with only minor flaws. The cargo pockets are all intact and in nice shape! -MISCELLANEOUS The OEM roof rack bars are on the roof and the original jack and ramp are are the hood The Experience Driving this Discovery is fantastic. It is Lexus quiet inside, pulls and handles like a sports car and is as comfortable as a Rolls Royce. Its got all the power it had from the factory and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive. I hope you can tell by my long ad that this truck is a great pre-owned and beautiful Land Rover. It's tax season, treat yourself to this truck, that you will not have to dump TONS of money into in this NO RESERVE AUCTION! There is well over $7k in recent scheduled and preventive service alone in this truck so you are ready to go another 100k+++ of care free miles. Don't buy an unserviced truck for a little less than spend 2 times as much to get it to this level of service! Feel free to ask me any questions at all. Residents around the country I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new truck as soon as possible. CA residents, registration good until Jan 2015! My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The truck is sold with no warranty. You are buying a used car. Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know. I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to offer only cars that are of TOP NOTCH service. I am not a dealer, just a guy who loves Rovers (among other cars) and hope to pass along my passion and fervor for these trucks. That said if ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them. Please understand that it is a used car and will have minor signs of use. That means please do not expect a showroom brand new truck. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a 108,000 mile truck that however is well above average for its year. This is very low miles for Discoveries of this year, but please just remember that no 108,000 mile truck is perfect cosmetically. It is though a clean, very nice truck! Please only bid if you intend to buy. If you would like to have eBay 3rd party mechanic service check out the truck I more than welcome it. Please check your local laws and registration procedures before buying. Please ask any and all questions ahead of purchase. All sales are final, you are buying as-is, the sky is blue, etc, etc. Sorry to have to give the boring speech. Please feel free to ask any and all questions!! Happy Rover-trails!!!! |

Jaguar to offer high-performance SVR models like Land Rover?
Tue, 01 Jul 2014At the Goodwood Festival of Speed this past weekend, Land Rover previewed its upcoming performance version of the Range Rover Sport. Only instead of wearing the R-S badge that adorns the most hardcore of Jaguar models, the performance SUV from JLR's Special Operations unit introduced the letters SVR. And now, it seems that badge is here to stay.
Following the Range Rover Sport SVR, a new report from Motor Authority now says that Jaguar Land Rover will use those letters to distinguish the top-of-the-line performance models from both marques moving forward. As such, we might expect SVR models of the upcoming Jaguar XE compact sedan and Land Rover Discovery Sport, as well as potential new performance models based on the new F-Type and next-generation XF.
If accurate, the move would seem to separate Jaguar in particular from the R-S badge that has adorned performance models like the XFR-S and XKR-S. Both Audi and Porsche use the letters RS to distinguish its most hardcore models as well (e.g. Audi RS7 Sportback and Porsche 911 GT3 RS). Whether the similarity was a factor in shifting to the SVR moniker, we don't know, but either way, we welcome the arrival of a new generation of Jaguar and Land Rover performance models - especially if they pack the 575-horsepower version of the company's ubiquitous 5.0-liter supercharged V8. Not incidentally, that delicious powerplant gained a couple of new engine bays to call home at Goodwood as well - it's not just found in the forthcoming Range Rover Sport SVR, it's found a home in the F-Type Project 7, too.
Jaguar Land Rover exploring 3D HUD and infotainment projections
Wed, Aug 21 2019With its most recent technology research, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is exploring the use of 3D projections for a world before and/or after autonomous vehicles come to fruition. In collaboration with the United Kingdom's University of Cambridge, JLR has developed concepts for a 3D head-up display that shows information on the road ahead and a system that projects personalized 3D infotainment for vehicle passengers. As of right now, hundreds of production vehicles are equipped with two-dimensional head-up displays, some color, others black and white. Using various techniques and different technologies, manufacturers display information in a flat image in front of a driver. Some might find it distracting or unhelpful to have this in the driver's line of sight, and JLR might have found a solution. Rather than wedge the information in between the person and the view ahead, a 3D system that uses augmented reality could display the info onto the road in front of the driver. JLR thinks the system could project navigation directions, safety alerts such as lane departure, hazard detection or other bits typically found in a car's infotainment or instrument cluster. Some might find this to be even more distracting that 2D head-up displays, but to each his or her own. While the 3D head-up display is something that could be used right now, if it were released and passed legal, part two of JLR's 3D technology research is imagined for a life where truly autonomous vehicles are skating across the country. Using head- and eye-tracking technology, the system could lock into the position of numerous people in a vehicle and give each of them a personalized 3D projection "screen." This could be used to track a trip, look up points of interest, or even watch movies. JLR points out this could be used during ride-sharing without bothering others in the vehicle. The work with the Center for Advanced Photonics and Electronics at Cambridge is still in development for now, but it's only a matter of time before 3D tech makes it into cars in some degree.
Editors' Picks, May 2023: Some Subarus and a pair of luxury SUVs
Thu, Jun 1 2023The month of May saw a number of new vehicles jump into the pool of Editors' Picks. Subaru grabbed a pair with its brand-new generation of Crosstrek for 2024, and the Legacy earns one in the ever-shrinking midsize sedan segment. In the luxury space, we have one entry from Britain and one from here at home. The new Range Rover already got an Editors' Pick, but now the Range Rover Sport joins the ranks. The Corsair earned Editors' Pick status before its update, too, but now the refreshed version rejoins the ranks. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get an EditorsÂ’ Pick designation. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in May that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2023 Subaru Legacy 2023 Subaru Legacy View 15 Photos Quick take: The Legacy brings all-wheel drive with sedan dynamics to a shrinking segment, and it does so with a competitive price, respectable tech and tons of utility. Score: 7.5 What it competes with: Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5 Pros: All-wheel drive in every trim, spunky turbo engine, tons of space in the rear and trunk Cons: CVT makes for a dull drive, infotainment is clunky, styling is on the bland side From the editors: Associate Editor Byron Hurd — "Not everybody has abandoned sedans. Not only is Subaru keeping some of its eggs in this four-door basket, but it's dyeing them in some festive shades. The new turbocharged and tightened Sport model makes a great case for itself as a grown-up WRX without all the GT-themed nonsense. Shame about the CVT." In-depth analysis: 2023 Subaru Legacy gets Sport trim, more tech, fresh design  2023 Range Rover Sport Quick take: It may not be outwardly sporty, but the Range Rover Sport has a killer design, gorgeous interior, buttery-smooth driving characteristics and a clean tech interface.
