Twin-turbo Lamborghini ignites at 250 mph

Yesterday we covered a crash at the Unlimited 500+ drag race in Moscow, featuring a Nissan GT-R, but today brings better news: a Lamborghini Gallardo making 2,005 horsepower successfully went 250 miles per hour on the one-mile strip in 23.9 seconds without crashing. That's the good part. The bad part is the single-serving supercar burst into flames immediately after it crossed the finish line. Fortunately the driver was able to quickly bring the Lamborghini to a stop and get out of the car, but we have a feeling it will need some engine work before it sees any more action. That and perhaps a new paint job.
Underground Racing tuned the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera's V10 to such an astronomical power output with the help of what sounds like twin-turbochargers (which is typical of UR builds). But despite the very impressive mile time, it's still hard not to feel sorry for the poor engine, which just couldn't take the pressure. Lamborghini, Bentley recalling models with carbon-ceramic brakes

An issue involving carbon-ceramic brakes has prompted Lamborghini and Bentley to recall certain models so equipped. The problem, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, revolves around the stainless steel screws that secure the brake rotors, which are prone to corrosion when exposed to salty conditions.
The recall affects 2007-2009 Lamborghini Gallardo coupes and Spyders, 2006-2010 Murcielago coupes and Roadsters and 2007-2011 Bentley Continental GTs, GTCs and Flying Spurs. All in all, some 1,136 vehicles are subject to the recall in the United States, including 263 Gallardos, 404 Murcielagos and 469 Continentals. The fix seems simple enough, with local Lamborghini and Bentley dealers replacing the problematic screws with new ones. The recall follows two notices recently issued for Audis as well. Lamborghini driver can't shoot the gap in London

It may be difficult to see a nearly $500,000 car wrecked because of hot-shot driving on narrow streets, but a new video of a Lamborghini Aventador crash in one of London's poshest zip codes over the weekend has to be seen to be believed.
The accident occurred Sunday and left Sloane Street in London's ritzy Chelsea district littered with equally ritzy matte black body parts. A fan of the supercar enthusiast Shmee150 submitted footage of the devastating wreck to his YouTube channel, and Shmee kindly turned around and offered it to Autoblog. In the video, the Lamborghini's tires momentarily lift off the pavement as the driver fails in an attempt to squeeze in-between what looks to be a turning Mazda Demio and parked cars including a Nissan Qashqai and a BMW 3 Series.
This enigmatic matte black Lamborghini has popped up on YouTube in the past, shooting flames from its exhaust and causing a ruckus on London streets, The Telegraph reports. No one was arrested at the crash and there are no charges pending at this time. Hopefully, even without legal ramifications, this driver has learned the lesson every morning commuter on London's Tube knows; mind the gap.
