Lamborghini Urus Performante reports for patrol car duty in Dubai

Thu, Jan 18 2024

The city of Dubai expanded its fleet of exotic police cars while helping Lamborghini set a new annual sales record. It took delivery of a new Urus Performante, the range-topping version of the Italian brand's high-performance SUV, at the 2023 edition of the Dubai Airshow. Dubai officials plan to use the Urus Performante as a patrol car, so they requested several modifications. Finished in the city's white and green livery, the SUV features a specific rear spoiler with an integrated 360-degree LED light bar and a siren. Interior pictures haven't been released, but we're told it's equipped with an armored gun box, a folding screen that displays messages, and a defibrillator for first-aid response. There's also a special compartment added to the trunk to let the officers assigned to the Urus store their service equipment. What's under the hood doesn't change. Power comes from a 4.0-liter V8 that relies on a pair of turbochargers to make 657 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 627 pound-feet of torque from 2,300 to 4,500 rpm. The engine exhales through a titanium exhaust system designed by Akrapovic, and it spins the four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Hitting 62 mph from a stop takes 3.3 seconds, and the Urus keeps accelerating until it hits 190 mph. It might one day need to reach this speed given Dubai's large concentration of supercars. Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), regularly purchases high-end cars for its police department. Over the past decade or so it has purchased a Lexus RC F, a Bugatti Veyron, a Mercedes-Benz G-Class tuned to 700 horsepower by Brabus, and even a science-fiction-like hoverbike. It's not all supercars; the fleet also includes several Toyota Land Cruisers, Dodge Chargers, and Nissan Pathfinders.  Not to be outdone, Abu Dhabi (the second-largest city in the UAE) also owns exotics. Its fleet includes a Veyron and a Nissan GT-R.  Featured Gallery Lamborghini Urus Performante for Dubai police fleet View 10 Photos Weird Car News Lamborghini SUV Police/Emergency Performance

Lamborghini Huracan races Su-30 jet in Russia

Mon, 01 Sep 2014

We've seen it time and time again, but we never seem to get tired of it. We are referring, of course, to races between supercars and fighter jets. The time-honored tradition has seen a Lamborghini Reventón take on a Panavia Tornado, an SRT Viper line up alongside an F-16, even a Red Bull F1 car tackle an F/A-18 Hornet. But now it's time for the new Lamborghini Huracán to take its turn. And since this contest takes place in Russia, its rival is none other than the Sukhoi Su-30 Flanker-C, the two-seat version of the earlier Su-27 and one of the most advanced aircraft to come out of the Soviet Union.
Now there are, of course, many ways to set up a race between car and jet, but for this one, the organizers had the competitors line up on the runway, accelerate past a marker (at which point the jet is already in the air), turn around and return. We'll let you watch the video for yourself to see which won, but either way, there can be little question that the Su-30 and the latest Lamborghini are two of the most formidable performance machines ever devised.

Teen Who Stole Guy Fieri's Lamborghini Receives Life Sentence

Fri, Jan 24 2014

A California man received a life sentence with possibility of parole Thursday for attempted murder and the theft of celebrity chef Guy Fieri's Lamborghini. Max Wade was only 16 when he stole the $200,000 super car owned by Fieri, the Food Network star. In a carefully planned heist inspired by too many secret-agent movies, Wade repelled from the rooftop window of a San Francisco garage and stole the Lambo on March 8, 2011, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. Later, the newspaper says, Wade texted a friend that "it doesn't get any better than boosting a lambo and picking up chicks at 17." Among them was Eva Dedier, 18. After Wade flirted with her, Dedier told him she was seeing another man, Landon Wahlstrom. On April 13, 2012, Wade fired five shots into Wahlstrom's pickup truck as the couple occupied the vehicle. Wade was tried as an adult and convicted on Oct. 30, 2013. In addition to the life sentence, the judge added 21 years and four months for the premeditated use of a firearm. Wade will be eligible for parole in no less than 17 years. Lamborghini Safety murder guy fieri
