2011 Kia Optima - Under book value and still under the factory warranty. I routinely see ~40MPG on the interstate!!! 2011 Kia Optima in the optional Snow White Pearl color. This car absolutely gleams in the sun! Things you won't find on other Optima's without spending big $: -HID headlights -LED Taillights -Navigation System with Rear-View Camera (CCD sensor provides a higher quality image than typical CMOS systems) -Infinity speakers Also includes a full size spare unlike the majority of Optimas, which only come with a can of Fix-A-Flat and a prayer :) In pristine condition. Non-smoker car. New 85K mile tires installed 7/13. Regularly serviced with synthetic oil. Absolutely no issues with this car whatsoever. Selling as my 4th child means we can no longer fit in this vehicle as a family :) There are a few very minor chips in the paint on the leading edge of the hood. There are several minor scratches on the interior (glove box, passenger door) as well. They were on the car when I bought it. 2014 Kia Soul SUV Styling Pack adds some aggression
Wed, 11 Sep 2013Last month, Kia released a few photos of the European-market 2014 Soul ahead of its Frankfurt Motor Show reveal, and we happened to notice that the hamster box looked a bit different - a bit tougher. That's because Kia is adding an SUV Styling Pack to the car's options list, which includes the blacked-out lower fascias, wheel arches, side skirts and painted roof seen here.
At the time, we polled Autoblog readers if they thought bringing the optional visuals to SUV-happy North America was a good idea, and the voting split 70.3 percent in favor, 21.4 percent against, and 8.3 percent undecided.
At the present time, Kia representatives tell us that it has no plans to offer the SUV Styling Pack in our market, so you'll have to take a better look at it with our new gallery to decide whether its absence from North American order sheets is a tragedy or not.
Kia unveils Horki sub-brand in China, kicks off with concept car
Wed, 24 Apr 2013While we were busy ogling new vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept, Maserati Ghibli and Hongqi L9 at the Shanghai Motor Show, Kia was busy unveiling an entire brand. Through its Chinese joint venture, Dongfeng Yueda Kia (or DYK), the South Korean automaker has introduced its new Horki sub-brand and a concept car, simply called the Horki Concept.
The name Horki comes from the combination of two Chinese characters "Hor" and "Ki," which translates to "China driving." As this suggests, the brand will only be offered in China, and this concept sedan shares its platform with the 2014 Kia Forte. We didn't happen to catch the car live at the auto show, and apparently neither did Kia, since it only provided us with some drawings rather than live (or even studio) shots of the actual concept car. Thankfully, our friends at Newspress managed to ferret it out, so we have a couple of live pics to share after all.
Hyundai, Kia and U of M studying 'highway hypnosis'
Wed, 28 Aug 2013Next up on the hot-button list of things that can kill you behind the wheel: "highway hypnosis." That's the zombie-like, autopilot phase you get into on a long highway drive when there isn't much to distract you, like curves or traffic. Digging further into what it is and how to combat it, Hyundai-Kia engineers and the University of Michigan are commencing a study that will measure brainwave activity in order to track the body's slide into highway hypnosis.
We're not sure how much overlap this has with Mercedes-Benz's Attention Assist, which tracks more than 70 in-car parameters to determine when you're not focused on the road anymore. That system is billed as an alarm against fatigue, in our experience it does more than that - if you use your phone while driving, for instance, it will chirp.
They don't know what form a warning system will take yet, but Hyundai-Kia plans to develop a method for warning drivers when they being to zone out. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were more than three thousand deaths and nearly 400,000 injuries due to distracted driving in 2011.
