Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk set for New York debut

Thu, Mar 30 2017

The head of Jeep confirmed Wednesday that the brand will reveal its high-powered Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in April at the New York Auto Show. "That is going to be quite a special vehicle," Jeep boss Mike Manley said. "Very difficult for one not to smile." Speaking at an event at FCA US headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI, to preview the 2017 Easter Jeep Safari vehicles for Moab, he didn't provide further details. The Trackhawk has been expected to bow in New York, and the confirmation comes after months of rumors and spy shots. What's under the hood? The blown 6.2-liter Hemi Hellcat from the Charger and Challenger is the overwhelmingly obvious choice. The V8 engine makes 707 horsepower in the Dodges. The most potent current Grand Cherokee, the SRT model, is rated at 475 hp. Jeep also already sells a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk for off-road adventures. Meanwhile, Manley reiterated the next-generation Wrangler will debut by the end of the year, as expected. The New York show is shaping up to be a blockbuster event for FCA US, which will also debut the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon on the eve of the show next month. Related Video:

2019 Jeep Renegade spied out in the cold

Thu, Feb 8 2018

The upcoming facelifted Jeep Renegade has been caught again in winter testing wearing only light camo. (Won't it get cold?) Photographed somewhere in Northern Scandinavia where it's currently very chilly, the renewed Renegade shows off a redesigned front bumper, which features a new shape for the lower air intake, and the inward repositioning of the fog lights, cleaning up the front fascia. The rear end of the Renegade wears matching swirly camo, but there's not much to analyze about it: Even the X-shape of the blocky taillights will be retained by the looks of it. These spy shots also provide a look inside, where the dashboard screen has noticeably grown in size, and the lower portion of the dash with its HVAC and audio controls has been redesigned. The refresh of the Renegade is expected to debut sometime this year, making it a 2019 model. The current iteration of the Fiat-related Renegade was first unveiled at Geneva four years ago, so it's certainly due for a 2019 facelift. No rumors of powertrain changes have yet been heard. 2014 Jeep Cherokee: Introduction

Tue, 27 May 2014

When we look back at some of the more shocking product launches of recent yeras, the Jeep Cherokee is certainly high up on the list. And we aren't just talking about its off-the-wall, polarizing design.
For starters, it brought back the iconic Cherokee nameplate - something Jeep enthusiasts have coveted for ages. But beyond that, it brought a new evolution for the Jeep brand. After all, the Cherokee is car-based - using the same compact platform that underpins the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200. It has a greater focus on technology and refinement than ever before, in an effort to appeal to a new crop of Jeep customers. And powering it all is a new (optional) V6 engine paired with an equally new nine-speed automatic transmission.
Can the Cherokee's car-based roots still allow for a vehicle that's superb when the going gets tough? Will its design still be a love/hate affair in one year's time, or will it start to blend in? Is the powertrain strong enough to not only support the needs of daily driving and road trips, but blaze a few trails as well? We're aiming to answer all these questions, and more, over the next 12 months. Welcome to the Autoblog long-term garage, Cherokee.
