I bought this 2009 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon brand new in Spring of 2009, thinking I would keep it forever as my family's do-it-all transport device. We were living in Santa Cruz, CA at the time, and I could not find a locally available vehicle that fit the bill for what I considered the ideally configured Jeep, so my son and I flew out to Denver, to buy this setup:

2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon
Silver Paint
4-Door
6-Speed Manual Transmission
Factory Tow-Package
Hard and Soft-tops (though our hard-top has never been removed, or the soft top opened)
Soft-doors (also still in box; hard doors never removed)
ESP (electronic traction control)
Side-Impact airbags
Premium Sound System with Satellite Radio

Price for the Jeep brand new, rolling off the dealer’s lot in stock setup was $34,000. On top of that, I invested the following in carefully planned add-ons and upgrades:

Blue-Ox frame mounted front tow-bar receiver hitch, and brake/signal lights wiring harness, professionally installed by Specialized Auto in Santa Cruz: $945 [I am keeping the tow bar itself for another vehicle, so you would need to supply your own Blue-Ox tow-bar to fit the receiver - I used model 'BX4330']

The next 5 upgrades were purchased from and installed by Central 4 Wheel-Drive in Sacramento:
Magnaflow Stainless Catback Performance Exhaust: $707
Jet Stage-1 Performance Chip: $203
AIRAID Performance Intake: $215
POWERAID Throttle-body Spacer: $105
WARN Rock Sliders: $622

Later that summer, 4-Wheel Parts Performance Center in Coppell, TX installed the full-length Garvin Wilderness Rack at a cost of $1,300

To assist with handling, trailering, and load-capacity performance, Jeep Masters in Austin, TX installed Goodyear Air-Ride bags in the rear springs, plus an electric trailer brake control unit and 7-Pin socket at a cost of $755

Down the road a piece, Express Tech Automotive in Gretna, LA replaced the stock shocks with Rancho RS5326’s at a cost of $415

I personally installed a Tuffy Security Products Security Deck Enclosure in the rear cargo area; another $450 add-on that creates a terrific two-level split behind the rear passenger seat, as well as a $70 nylon-web cargo barrier net to keep dog / luggage from sliding off the top level of the cargo enclosure into the passenger area. For further security, I also installed a Rugged Ridge Hood Lock, to keep the engine and components from being tampered with when parked unattended.

As I said, I bought this Jeep, and invested heavily into add-ons and upgrades for it thinking it would be kept forever. Along those lines, after the first two oil changes with semi-synth (during engine break-in period), I used premium synthetic oil exclusively, and all maintenance and repairs have been done properly at the required intervals and I have a scanned PDF copy of every receipt from new (I am happy to e-mail these after we speak on the phone - just call (504) 458-7191 to request the zip folder).

This year, my wife and I restored a vintage travel-trailer to serve as the mobile showroom for her business, and as well-equipped as the Jeep is, it’s simply not the right vehicle to pull a 5,000 lb., 30-foot trailer, and we have now purchased a Chevy Blazer with a 350 V-8 and auto transmission to serve as the work-horse. We have decided not to bear the expense of two full-sized four-wheel-drive vehicles, so now the Jeep is looking for its next owner.

There are just over 72K miles on the Jeep as of this week, and as you can tell from my descriptions above, most of that is highway travel (Our family has safely adventured through California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, North and Central Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, etc. in this vehicle).

The ONE mishap this vehicle has been subjected to occurred while we were living in Guanajuato, Mexico in 2009: I was taking a right hand turn at a blind intersection two blocks from my house just as twilight was falling. An impatient neighbor - who decided it was a good idea to pass a row of THREE slower cars in a residential neighborhood - was directly in my path of travel as I rounded the corner. I was traveling no more than 5 mph; her VW Touareg was moving at roughly 20. She struck me diagonally at the front, right bumper. Had the accident occurred in the USA, Police would have been involved, and I expect a Carfax record would have been triggered, as I estimate the repair in the states would have come in around $2 ~ $3K. I had the Jeep professionally repaired (New bumper, New front grill, New Foglight) at the Chrysler / Jeep dealer in San Miguel de Allende. I paid cash in U.S. Dollars for the work, which they did as an 'under the table' job (No invoice or record of the repair). The only discernible evidence of the work remaining is that the hood is a tiny bit misaligned: There is an approx. 1/8 to 1/4" shift to the left (viewing the Jeep from the front) - Although I'm certifiably 'Type-A,' this has never been a large enough concern for me to have a body shop tweak it into perfect position. See photos on Picasa to confirm what a minor issue this is.

Though it has seen a lot of miles, and the occasional rock-chip or paint-scratch attest to its travels (and I've put a parking lot dimple in both front and back plastic bumpers since the Mexico repair), this Jeep has never been abused or neglected. Neoprene seat-covers front and rear were in place on the seats for the first 50K miles or so, and then removed when those were worn out, so even though the interior is anything but new, it’s definitely not beat. The one thing I would say it needs today is a new battery: I installed a 'Silver' Rated, 24-Month warrantied battery from Advance Auto Parts in May 2011, and while it's still holding a charge and cranking just fine, some acid / corrosion is starting to show at the posts.

Reserve is set WELL BELOW the current KBB private-party, mid-level value for a STOCK Rubicon 4-Door with 70K miles on it. Add the fully documented, proper maintenance history, and the nearly $6,000 worth of intelligent upgrades and add-ons that this one comes with, and... well; you do the math to determine if this is a great deal or not.

New tires (the same BF Goodrich 255/75R-17 Mud Terrain TA KM model that the Rubicon came with from the factory) were installed in November, at 62,300 miles by Les Schwab at a cost of $1,295.56. In April, the 'throw-out bearing' in the clutch started acting up, so the entire clutch was replaced at a cost of approx. $900 by Rod's 76, considered by most locals here in Tahoe to be the area's best mechanic.

The Jeep was bought for cash, and clear CA Title is in my name ready to transfer today. The registration is paid up until May, 2014.

What you can expect of the Jeep: That it's just as I've described in writing and through the listing photos AND the additional photos posted on Picasa here: CLICK HERE FOR ALBUM

What you can expect of me: 1) That I am a well established, experienced eBay seller and buyer. That I will treat you with respect, and make the experience of purchasing this Jeep from me a pleasant and happy one. I myself have had more than one UNpleasant experience over the years, dealing with unscrupulous / dishonest vehicle sellers on eBay, and I would not inflict that on anyone! With that in mind, rest assured that if you are the winning bidder, upon inspecting the vehicle in person (or having it professionally inspected by the mechanic of your choice anywhere in North Tahoe, Reno, or Carson City ~ at your expense), if you decide not to complete the purchase for any reason, no hard feelings! I would then release you of any and all obligation, refund your PayPal deposit in full, and still leave positive feedback for you here on eBay. 2) That I respect the eBay auction format - Until my reserve price is met, I reserve the right to end this auction early for a local sale, OR to make a Buy It Now arrangement with an eBay member. Once the reserve price is met by a legitimate bidder, however, I will not end the auction early, or remove the Jeep from auction - High bidder will get it once reserve is met, with no games or 'take-backs.'

What I expect of you: 1) That you are also an established, experienced eBay community member, and know how the bidding / buying process works [If you have less than 15 feedback reviews on your eBay ID, or have a feedback rating of less than 98%, please contact me by phone by calling (504) 458-7191 prior to bidding, or your bid will be considered invalid and removed.] 2) That you have the funds or pre-approved financing in place BEFORE placing a bid.

IF you have been hunting for a very well equipped, excellently maintained, 1-Owner Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and want to make this one yours right now, call me at (504) 458-7191 for my 'Buy-It-Now' price and claim it before my reserve on this auction is met.

I am in Carnelian Bay, CA 96140. The nearest major airport is Reno, NV, and I am happy to meet you at the airport if you are not local, or work in any way necessary to help you arrange shipping of the vehicle to get it to you.

Stellantis ready to kill brands and fix U.S. problems, CEO Tavares says

Thu, Jul 25 2024

MILAN — Stellantis is taking steps to fix weak margins and high inventory at its U.S. operations and will not hesitate to axe underperforming brands in its sprawling portfolio, its chief executive Carlos Tavares said on Thursday. The warning for lossmaking brands is a turnaround for Tavares, who has maintained since Stellantis was created in 2021 from the merger of Italian-American automaker Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA that all of its 14 brands including Maserati, Fiat, Peugeot and Jeep have a future. "If they don't make money, we'll shut them down," Carlos Tavares told reporters after the world's No. 4 automaker delivered worse-than-expected first-half results, sending its shares down as much as 10%. "We cannot afford to have brands that do not make money." The automaker now also considers China's Leapmotor as its 15th brand, after it agreed to a broad cooperation with the group. Stellantis does not release figures for individual brands, except for Maserati which reported an 82 million euro adjusted operating loss in the first half. Some analysts say Maserati could possibly be a target for a sale by Stellantis, while other brands such as Lancia or DS might be at risk of being scrapped given their marginal contribution to the group's overall sales. Stellantis' Milan-listed shares were down as much as 12.5% on Thursday, hitting their lowest since August 2023. That brings the loss for the year so far to 22%, making them the worst performer among the major European automakers. Few automotive brands have been killed off since General Motors ditched the unprofitable Saturn and Pontiac during a U.S. government-led bankruptcy in the global financial crisis in 2008. Tavares is under pressure to revive flagging margins and sales and cut inventory in the United States as Stellantis bets on the launch of 20 new models this year which it hopes will boost profitability. Recent poor results from global carmakers have heightened worries about a weakening outlook for sales across major markets such as the U.S., whilst they also juggle an expensive transition to electric vehicles and growing competition from cheaper Chinese rivals. Japan's Nissan Motor saw first-quarter profit almost completely wiped out on Thursday and slashed its annual outlook, as deep discounting in the United States shredded its margins. Tavares said he would be working through the summer with his U.S. team on how to improve performance and cut inventory.

Chrysler's Jefferson North plant builds 5-millionth SUV [w/video]

Thu, 15 Aug 2013

Chrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant opened in 1992 for production of the first Jeep Grand Cherokee, but in the subsequent years, the Detroit plant has gone on to produce some of the company's biggest SUVs including the Jeep Commander and Dodge Durango. Earlier this week, the plant produced its five-millionth SUV, which, fittingly, was a Grand Cherokee.
Celebrating the plant's five-millionth unit, the silver 2014 Grand Cherokee was promptly donated to the USO. In addition to this milestone SUV, Chrysler also had a near-perfect 1993-95 ZJ Grand Cherokee on hand for the photo op. Scroll down for the Chrysler press release as well as a video showing some of the speeches from the celebration.

VW, Rivian, Nissan, BMW, Genesis, Audi and Volvo lose EV tax credits starting tomorrow

Mon, Apr 17 2023

The U.S. Treasury said Monday that Volkswagen, BMW, Nissan, Rivian, Hyundai and Volvo electric vehicles will lose access to a $7,500 tax credit under new battery sourcing rules. The Treasury said the new requirements effective Tuesday will also cut by half credits for the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Rear Wheel Drive to $3,750 but other Tesla models will retain the full $7,500 credit. Vehicles losing credits Tuesday are the BMW 330e, BMW X5 xDrive45e, Genesis Electrified GV70, Nissan Leaf , Rivian R1S and R1T, Volkswagen ID.4 as well as the plug-in hybrid electric Audi Q5 TFSI e Quattro and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) electric Volvo S60. The Swedish carmaker is 82%-owned by China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. The rules are aimed at weaning the United States off dependence on China for EV battery supply chains and are part of President Joe Biden's effort to make 50% of U.S. new vehicle sales by 2030 EVs or PHEVs. Hyundai said in a statement it was committed to its long-range EV plans and that it "will utilize key provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act to accelerate the transition to electrification." Rivian declined to comment and the other automakers could not immediately be reached for comment. Treasury also disclosed General Motors electric Chevrolet Bolt and Bolt EUV will qualify for the full $7,500 tax credit. GM said earlier it expected at least some of its EVS would qualify for the $7,500 tax credit under the new rules, including the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq and forthcoming Chevrolet Equinox EV SUV and Blazer EV SUV. Treasury said all GM EVs will qualify. Earlier, Ford Motor and Chrysler-parent Stellantis said most of their electric and PHEV models would see tax credits halved to $3,750 on April 18. Treasury confirmed the automakers' calculations. The rules were announced last month and mandated by Congress in August as part of the $430 billion Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The IRA requires 50% of the value of battery components be produced or assembled in North America to qualify for $3,750, and 40% of the value of critical minerals sourced from the United States or a free trade partner for a $3,750 credit. The law required vehicles to be assembled in North America to qualify for any tax credits, which in August eliminated nearly 70% of eligible models and on Jan. 1 new price caps and limits on buyers income took effect.
