1989 Jeep Wrangler Yj With Factory Hardtop on 2040-cars
Cedar Falls, Iowa, United States
|
This is a 1989 (25 years old) Jeep Wrangler YJ with a factory hard top and 194,500 miles on it. It starts, runs, drives, brakes and works but it does have some issues which I’ll list below.
I bought it earlier in the summer as a “clean up & sell” project and I’ve been working on it off and on since purchasing it. I found out today (Tuffy did an inspection for me) that it has a crack in the exhaust manifold (estimated repair rated 4.5 hours labor by the pros). It also could probably use an oxygen sensor as the sensor is reacting to the cracked manifold and causing the engine to run somewhat rich with fuel through the carburetor.
It has a carburetor (straight-six, 5-speed manual) so for all you young people or old folks (like me) who forgot what driving a vehicle without fuel injection is like, it runs differently than modern cars. You have to warm it up before you drive it and (as mentioned) it’s running a little rich right now because of the oxygen sensor/manifold leak.
The clutch and throw-out bearing were replaced 100 miles ago. It had a complete oil/lube/filter at time also.
This Jeep has been in Iowa (I think) all 25 years so it has some rust. There is some on the frame (not terrible, but there) a couple of holes in the body (some open, one poorly repaired) and some that is just “surface” rust. There is a dent on the right/rear panel and a weld repair on the left front fender.
This Jeep rolled out of the factory painted white. The previous owner painted it Army olive green. I painted it red (rattle can, over-the-counter from Advanced Auto) over two coats of primer so the paint looks good but is nothing special.
The windshield has a large crack on the passenger side. All gauges (except the clock) work. Wipers work. All lights work. The heater/defroster works. It has all of the components of factory air but that does not work. It does have power steering that works well. There is factory carpeting throughout. All seat belts are present. The rear door works well.
It has four all-season snow tires on it that have about 90% tread left. The wheels are American Racing mags. Front shocks are near-new.
The factory hard top can be removed in 30 minutes (or less) and there is factory roll bars (padded). Take the doors off and you are in a basic Jeep. (I have factory mirrors for the non-roof option of driving). The rear window works and latches. The doors open and close securely. All door glass is present, unbroken and the windows roll up/down smoothly. Two panels of the hardtop glass have been replaced with Plexiglas and they are scratched.
It has an Alpine stereo/CD with a Bose speaker system that works well.
The title is clear and in my name so transfer can be immediate upon payment. There are no liens on the Jeep.
Payment is to be received within seven (7) calendar days after the auction ends. Only two forms of payment are acceptable. Either a Cashier’s Check (drawn on a major bank like Wells Fargo, etc.) or a USPS Money Order (no other brand acceptable).
I want it gone within 10 days of the end of the auction.
I make no warranty, expressed or implied. I’ve told you all I know about it. I hope I’ve covered everything I’ve found out about it but I haven’t owned it long enough to be sure.
Be sure you understand this Jeep has some issues so that you don’t waste your time or mine. Read the description carefully, look at the photos and decide. If you have 10 or fewer positive feedbacks email me before you bid as a courtesy to let me know you are serious. Otherwise, I will cancel your bid. Sorry for the “hardcore” attitude but I’ve been burned on eBay before. It’s not fun. |

Ram and Jeep Wrangler drive Fiat Chrysler profits up 61 percent
Thu, Feb 7 2019MILAN — Italian American automaker Fiat Chrysler says fourth-quarter net profits rose by 61 percent, powered by North American sales of the all-new Ram 1500 and Jeep Wrangler. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles on Thursday reported quarterly net profits of 1.29 billion euros ($1.46 billion), compared with 804 million euros in 2017. Revenues rose 6 percent to 30.6 billion euros. North America profits grew by 19 percent to 6.2 billion euros, accounting for the lion's share of the automaker's global profits. The carmaker continued to have trouble in Asia, which swung to a loss due to market weakness in China and more competition in Fiat Chrysler's core SUV market. Europe also lost ground, with profits dipping 44 percent on lower shipments and weaker pricing, while Latin America more than doubled. Based on the company's earnings last year, 44,000 unionized U.S. auto workers will get $6,000 profit-sharing checks. That's $500 more than in 2017, but smaller than U.S. rivals Ford and General Motors. On Wednesday, GM announced that workers would get $10,750, while Ford workers will get $7,600.Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. UAW strike's three-pronged attack focuses on popular midsize trucks, SUVs
Fri, Sep 15 2023The United Auto Workers announced at midnight last night that they would begin targeted strikes at Ford's Michigan Assembly, Stellantis' Toledo Assembly and GM's Wentzville Assembly — all three home to midsize pickups and, in the case of Toledo and Michigan, popular midsize SUVs. The Ford Ranger, Jeep Gladiator (just updated for 2024), Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are all built on lines that have been shut down by the strike. The Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, which share fundamental underpinnings with the Ranger and Gladiator, respectively, are also in on the party. GM's Wentzville Assembly also builds the GMC Savana and Chevy Express vans, neither of which is a big player in the retail market. While midsize pickups may not move in the quantities we see from the half-ton segment, all of these are fairly high-volume models. Ford sold nearly 120,000 Broncos along with more than 55,000 Rangers in 2022; Wrangler and Gladiator combined for nearly 260,000 units last year (181,000 of those were Wranglers) and the Colorado/Canyon represented more than 117,000 sales for General Motors. Throw in the nearly 80,000 units for Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana, and production from these facilities equated to more than 500,000 units sold in 2022. Ford has been struggling since launch to deliver its wildly popular Bronco to waiting enthusiasts. With supply woes largely easing last year, the company caught up to a great deal of its pre-existing demand, but lingering supply chain and quality control issues have continued to plague the manufacturer even as general constraints have eased. Even earlier this year, Ford said it was selling every unit it could produce. The Ranger, freshly redesigned for the U.S. market, is still getting its feet wet. Jeep likewise has been on a tear. Sales of the 4x4 have remained so steady that the Wrangler 4xe became the country's best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle pretty much by accident. Jeep just formally confirmed this week that a 4xe variant of the Gladiator pickup is on the way by 2025 — and they said you couldn't sell hybrids to truck and SUV buyers. At GM, meanwhile, the Colorado and Canyon are sporting fresh redesigns for the 2023 model year, with production of both still ramping up. And while the Chevy Express and GMC Savana vans may not be popular consumer models, GM still sold more than 77,000 of them last year combined. Related video: Plants/Manufacturing UAW/Unions Chevrolet Ford GMC Jeep Truck SUV
These are the cars with the best and worst depreciation after 5 years
Thu, Nov 19 2020The average new vehicle sold in America loses nearly half of its initial value after five years of ownership. No surprise there; we all expect that shiny new car to start depreciating as soon as we drive it off the lot. But some vehicles lose value a lot faster than others. According to data provided by iSeeCars.com, trucks and truck-based sport utility vehicles generally hold their value better than other vehicle types, with the Jeep Wrangler — in both four-door Unlimited and standard two-door styles — and Toyota Tacoma sitting at the head of the pack. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's average five-year depreciation of 30.9% equals a loss in value of $12,168. That makes Jeep's four-door off-roader the best overall pick for buyers looking to minimize depreciation. The Toyota Tacoma's 32.4% loss in initial value means it loses just $10,496. The smaller dollar amount — the least amount of money lost after five years — indicates that Tacoma buyers pay less than Wrangler Unlimited buyers, on average, when they initially buy the vehicle. The standard two-door Jeep Wrangler is third on the list, depreciating 32.8% after five years and losing $10,824. Click here for a full list of the top 10 vehicles with the least depreciation over five years. On the other side of the depreciation coin, luxury sedans tend to plummet in value at a much faster rate than other vehicle types. The BMW 7 Series leads the losers with a 72.6% drop in value after five years, which equals an alarming $73,686. BMW's slightly smaller 5 Series is next, depreciating 70.1%, or $47,038, over the same period. Number three on the biggest losers list is the Nissan Leaf, the only electric vehicle to appear in the bottom 10. The electric hatchback matches the 5 Series with a 70.1% drop in value, but since it's a much cheaper vehicle, that percentage equals a much smaller $23,470 loss.
