Fiat Chrysler target 850k sales in China by 2018

Behind the vanguard of numerous Jeep models, two Chryslers, a smattering of Fiats and Alfa Romeos and local production through a joint venture with Guangzhou Automotive Group (GAG), Fiat Chrysler wants to increase sales in China more than six-fold by 2018. The group sold 130,000 cars in China in 2013, the aim for 2018 being 850,000 cars.
Ultimately it's expected that the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, Wrangler, Renegade, the coming Grand Wagoneer and a sub-Renegade-sized crossover will either be built in or exported to the People's Republic. The Chrysler Town & Country and 300 will join the export list in 2016 and 2018 respectively, according to a report in Automotive News.
With a number of those vehicles not in production or perhaps even envisaged yet, and others not due on the local market until 2018, it will be interesting to see how Fiat Chrysler plans to achieve the target in the specified timeframe. The joint venture with GAG builds two products now, the Dodge Dart-based Fiat Viaggio launched two years ago - supposedly designed just for China - and the just-launched Fiat Ottimo, a hatchback version of the Viaggio. Fiat projected 300,000 Viagio sales in its first two years, that number has been adjusted downward to 94,000 and there doesn't appear to be an analyst alive that sees a good future for Fiat in China's overrun mainstream market. Still, last year's 130,000 group sales in China is a huge jump from 2012 sales of 66,000 units, but less than half the 300,000 units it projected.

Steve McQueen's U.S. Army Willys Jeep is up for auction

It's not a Bullitt Mustang, but this World War II Willys Jeep up for auction was still owned and driven by the famous Steve McQueen, and it could now be yours. Heading to the block with Silverstone Auctions, this 1945 Willys was bought directly from the U.S. Army by McQueen himself. The Willys was sold in 1984 as part of the Steve McQueen Estate Auction for a whopping $6,000, and then sold to its current owner some undisclosed amount of time after that. Currently, the Willys resides in the U.K. where it was completely restored to the state it would have been in during McQueen's ownership. The restoration process was completed by the Jeep experts at Jeeparts. It comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Steve McQueen Estate Sale to ensure its legitimacy. Silverstone Auctions is predicting a final hammer price of $105,00 - $131,000. That's pretty exorbitant for an old Willys, but there's certainly been a bit of excitement around the late actor here recently. Bonhams just auctioned off some old motorcycles owned by McQueen, and Ford has finally brought the Bullitt Mustang back to the market. If you're a fan with a little (or a lot of) extra change in your back pocket, this looks like a perfect way to have some off-road fun in a car with some seriously special history. Toledo gets proactive in fight to keep Jeep Wrangler

Let's make this very plain - the city of Toledo, OH loves its Jeeps. It loves them so fervently that the very rumor of the Jeep Wrangler moving out of its traditional home prompted the city's mayor, D. Michael Collins, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich to hold a weekend conference call with Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne.
"The purpose of this call was for the mayor and governor to gain clarity on Mr. Marchionne's comments last week regarding the possibility of the next generation of Jeep Wrangler being built at a location other than the Toledo North Assembly Plant," a spokesman for the mayor's office told The Toledo Blade.
While no further commitments were made by any party, Collins and Kasich's statement was quite unequivocal about keeping Toledo's unwillingness to let the Wrangler go, saying "the city and its partners will again rise to the occasion to ensure that the new Wrangler is made in Toledo." According to the newspaper, the next step is for face-to-face meetings between officials from Ohio and FCA.
