I am a small time used car dealer that seeks out older exceptional vehicles. I am also a Jeep guy at heart, having driven one for the last 15 years. Even better I drove a Cherokee for about 7 of those years! If you have a (Jeep Guy) question don't hesitate to ask.
This 1987 is pretty exceptional. It has the 4.0L with AW4 automatic transmission, and NP231 transfer case. It even has the hard to find factory dana 44 rear end. It shows 147K miles on the odometer and just eyballing this thing you can see it is legit. You would be hard pressed to find another like this anywhere.
The interior on it looks as if it has been completely reupholstered but in fact is just amazingly well kept. I did have the headliner replaced to make it near perfect. The only interior flaw I am aware of is a piece of trim on the drivers seatbelt is broken. With that in mind I would rate the interior a 9.5 out of 10.
Mechanically the jeep is in pretty good shape. It was tuned up, fuel pump was replaced, and deteriorated vacuum lines were repaired or replaced as needed. New shocks were added as well. It does have the minor oil seepage associated with 4.0L engines but nothing that requires adding oil between changes. I would not hesitate to drive this anywhere and have personally took it on several weekend trips of 2-300 miles. The only thing it would need to be 100% mechanically is to fix an exhaust leak. Nothing major, personally I wouldn't bother but I am trying to be as forthcoming as possible.
Exterior is exceptionally straight, not even a door ding to be found. The paint is showing it's age but it is still quite presentable. Pictures of the slight oxidation was hard to capture due to the silver color hiding it so well. Glass is all in good shape. When I bought it, it had the most horrendous 80's style hubcaps you can imagine. I replaced these with factory jeep chrome steel wheels from a later model jeep. They greatly improved the looks while keeping a near factory appearance. The front tires are a good matching pair (70%?) of 235/75/15 Goodyears, the rear tires do not match but are the same size and are in serviceable condition. This seems like a southern jeep, there is no rust to speak of anywhere and nothing to suggest it has been offroad at all.
Jeep has facotry stereo, smoothly operating power windows, locks, cruise, and cold air conditioning. Jeep is located in Benton, Arkansas half an hour from Little Rock National Airport. I would not hesitate for a moment to fly in and drive this thing to any part of the country.
You can reach me by phone 9-6 M-F at 501-778-2113 and I will do my best to answer any questions. Again, I am a Jeep guy and will know what you are talking about!

Chrysler teases upcoming outlay of SEMA cars
Wed, 15 Oct 2014Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is hauling a multitude of modified models to the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas this November, and the company is releasing the first teasing sketches of many of them.
Unfortunately, FCA isn't giving many solid details on any of the concepts other than saying the vehicles from Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram and Fiat all benefit from tuning from its Mopar performance brand. The teaser photos include a sinister-looking Chrysler 200S, Fiat 500 Abarth with two-tone paint and a scorpion on the hood, a red and black 500L, seemingly two different takes on the Jeep Renegade, a green Dodge Challenger wearing the T/A badge, an orange and black Dart, a very neon Charger, just the outline of a red and black Viper, a Ram ProMaster in Mopar livery and a Ram pickup called the Outdoorsman.
Take a look through the gallery to see what you think of the sketches for these concepts, and scroll down for the full announcement from FCA.
Dodge, Jeep and Ram could soon be owned by Chinese automakers
Mon, Aug 14 2017For the past several years, Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has made it widely known that the automaker he helms is up for grabs. First, he sent an email to GM CEO Mary Barra, who immediately refused to even discuss a merger. Later, Marchionne set his sights on Volkswagen. That too was swiftly rebuffed. It seemed like no global automaker was remotely interested in a partnership. Now, Automotive News reports that several Chinese automakers have come calling, only FCA isn't ready to answer. At least not yet. The news broke this morning that a major Chinese automaker had made an offer to purchase FCA for slightly above market value. FCA refused, saying the offer wasn't quite generous enough. It's unclear which automaker made the offer, but Automotive News says there's more than one interested party. FCA representatives have recently traveled to China to meet with Great Wall Motors, while Chinese representatives were seen at FCA corporate headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich. The Chinese government has a lot of money invested in local automakers. It's putting pressure on these automakers to expand globally, including to the United States. As it stands, it's a matter of when a Chinese automaker will start selling cars here, not if. Purchasing an established automaker with a wide range of products and a huge dealer network would do wonders in giving the Chinese a foothold here. Sure, Geely owns Volvo, but a luxury automaker doesn't have nearly as much reach as a more mainstream company like FCA. This seems like the best case scenario for both a Chinese automaker looking to move into the U.S. and for FCA, at least from a business standpoint. The latter doesn't seem to have any other interested parties. It will be interesting to see how FCA would sell a deal like this to the public. We're not sure everyone will be happy with Dodge, Jeep and Ram falling under Chinese ownership. FCA didn't turn down the Chinese because they didn't like the idea. It turned down the offer because there wasn't enough money on the table. Related Video: News Source: Automotive News Earnings/Financials Alfa Romeo Chrysler Dodge Fiat Jeep RAM
FCA's puzzling trademark spree includes Apache and Orange Peelz
Thu, Mar 12 2020Here's one for the Mystery Machine. As noted by the WagoneerFans forum and picked up by Motor1, Fiat Chrysler recently went on a one-day trademark application spree at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. On March 6, the automaker applied for the names Apache, Farout, Orange Peelz, Shocker, Tomahawk, and Top Dog. All have been requested for "Land vehicles, namely, passenger automobiles," and the best guess so far has them being applied to concepts during next month's Easter Jeep Safari, which, assuming it goes ahead, will happen April 4-20. As for historical ties, one name has a connection to Dodge, another was a codename for a Dodge engine, and one was used on a previous Easter Jeep Safari concept. Tomahawk rings the loudest bell, that name applied to the four-wheeled, Viper-engined concept motorcycle that Dodge rolled out at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show. The company supposedly sold nine examples of the "rolling sculpture" through Neiman Marcus over a four-year period. It doesn't appear FCA has used the name since, internally or otherwise. There is, however, a Cherokee tomahawk — not referring to a Jeep, but the light, short-handled ax used by the Native American Cherokee tribe. This one seems made for Safari use. Apache has a Dodge and a Jeep tie-in. At one time, Apache was the codename for the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 marketed as the 392 V8 on the Charger and Challenger R/T Scat Pack trims. That engine makes 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. But Jeep showed a Wrangler Apache concept (pictured) at the 2012 Easter Jeep Safari, built with a Mopar conversion kit for a 6.4-liter Hemi making 470 hp and 470 lb-ft. Mopar sold the V8 swap kits at least through 2016, but they appear to have fallen off the Mopar menu. At one time there were rumors of a supercharged Apache with more than 600 horsepower, and wouldn't that be a welcome surprise in Moab. The Farout could be a more or less extreme overlanding take on last year's Easter Jeep Safari Wayout concept, depending on whether one considers "way" or "far" more radical. The Shocker, Jeep might be disappointed to discover, already has an outside link in the Jeep Shocker stickers made for Wichita State fans who love America's 4x4. As for Orange Peelz, it's pretty close to Pedro's bicycling degreaser called Oranj Peelz, but a Jeep conception could be anything. Except maybe a paint color.
