I am selling my 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport two wheel drive.. The Jeep 4.0L was replaced by a Corvette LT1. The LT1 was overhauled and dropped in by Corvette Connection of Lee County to the sum of just under $12,500. In addition to the engine, they also did custom Autometer Phantom gauges for $1,895. The wheels are American Eagle five point stars 18 X 9 wrapped with 285/60/R18 tires. The Jeep is also running an Old Man EMU 3" suspension lift. Power is transmitted via a modified AX15 Jeep five speed manual transmission to a Chevrolet Eight bolt rear end. It just had new LS7 lifters and top end gaskets dropped into it. The interior has two tone leather seats that were re-skinned in 06. They are still in great shape. The Jeep has just under 37K since the conversion.
The main issue with the Jeep is it was damaged this spring in the hail storm. The vast majority of the damage is to the drivers side of it. Also someone decided that they wanted the C5 corvette emblems off of the sides. There are some paint scratches and door dings one might expect with a fifteen year old car. There is a couple drips of oil seen if left to sit. It is wired for an aftermarket stereo system. However the stock head unit is in it now. The tires are worn on the back and will need to be replaced within the next 10k miles. Price dropped by 600 dollars to adjust accordingly to the cost of four new tires with mount and balance. It has been a great car for me. It has never left me stranded. However I have a growing family and a wife that cannot drive a manual. |

FCA recalls 15k Grand Cherokees, Durangos over brake issues
Sun, Apr 3 2016The Basics: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 14,768 examples of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, both from the 2015 and 2016 model years, and built between December 9, 2015, and January 14, 2016. The Problem: The left front brake caliper on some vehicles may have been made from the wrong type of iron, and could be prone to crack. A cracked brake caliper may not function properly. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The problem was discovered by the automaker during testing. The fix: Dealers will need to check the casting date of the component in question, and if necessary, replace the brake caliper. The schedule for carrying out the recall service has yet to be outlined. If you own one: Expect to hear from the manufacturer to arrange an appointment with your local dealer. Watch a Jeep CJ get disassembled and reassembled in minutes
Fri, Feb 16 2018Movie buffs! Remember the scene in the James Bond film 007: The Living Daylights where Timothy Dalton's character slices the floorpan off a police Lada using a laser, and when the driver hits the brakes the Lada's body simply jumps off its axles? That scene was immediately brought to mind as I watched this clip of eight Canadian mechanics disassembling a slightly modified Jeep in a matter of seconds. Having driven the Jeep to a complete stop, the technicians start unbolting it until the body lifts off the frame and the engine can be hauled away. It only took half a minute to turn the Jeep into just a chassis on wheels. As repair manuals say, refitting is the reversal of removal. Apparently the technicians have now honed their mechanical choreography to the point that the Jeep can be disassembled and reassembled in two minutes and 39 seconds; while I expect a great number of bolts having been removed beforehand and the likelihood of the Jeep falling to pieces with a sharp braking being significant, it is definitely impressive. It also reminds me of someone driving an old, dodgy car, having learned all its kinks to be able to keep it running. According to a Reddit thread, the pre-modified "Jifty Jeep" has been built (and taken apart, and rebuilt) by the School of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) for exactly this purpose. The team travels all around Canada to practice their show, trying to shave seconds off their record. There are worse hobbies.
