1981 CJ8 Scrambler I purchased this Scrambler bone stock over 10 years ago and have been making it into my dream Jeep ever since. I have considered every possible option when having this this Jeep built and really tried to do it right. No short cuts and lots of money invested. After all the time and money I have lost my passion for it though and would like to see it go to someone who can enjoy this one of a kind vehicle. My main objective when I started to build this Jeep was to make it capable of being my daily driver. I also wanted it to be safe for my family to ride in. Lastly, I wanted all of the modifications to look like they could have been factory done or meant to be that way (with the exception of the lift maybe). The following is a detailed list of what has been done. V8 5.7 liter TBI Engine Conversion CALIFORNIA LEGAL *Motor was donated by a 1995 Buick Road Master with approximately 60,000 miles on it. Wiring harness was provided by Painless. All appropriate measures have been taken to register this Jeep in California with this engine conversion. Jeep is completely California smog compliant and has sticker on firewall of engine compartment to prove it. NV4500 Transmission *This was a brand new unit bought directly from GM earlier on in my build. It is a 5 speed tranny with a very low first gear and a overdrive for the freeway. This allows this Jeep to cruise at 75 mph but also be ready for crawling with the very low first gear. Dana 300 *One of the only original untouched parts of this Jeep from the factory. Works great and have not had any issues to this date. Axles Front & Rear *Front is a Dana 45 running 4:54 gearing, Warn locking hubs, and disc brakes *Rear is a custom made Dana 60 running 4:54 gearing as well and disc brakes Lockers *ARB lockers front and rear Roll Cage *Custom built from scratch by metal fabricator and is nothing short of amazing. Cage is tied into frame and extends over entire body to include protection to backseat passengers. Metal tabs to mount top securely we're incorporated in as well as complete seat cages for both front and rear seats. Rock Sliders *Custom built step/rock sliders extend down each side of Jeep. Body *Completely stripped, blocked out, primed, and painted. You will not find a straighter CJ8 body out their. Entire inside of tub was sprayed with Line_x as well as the inside of the fenders. Engine compartment is blacked out while the exterior color is a BMW blue used in the mid 2000's. *Full hard doors that have been shaved and adjusted to fit body and top amazingly. *Fenders were cut away and modified to fit TJ style flares. This was done the right way and front fenders were shaped to fit the flares natural pitch. These look like they were made for a CJ. Full Top *Very rare full top which is secured to the body in the rear a directly to roll cage in the front. Rear Bumper *Body Armor 4x4 rear bumper/tire carrier. This is a really great unit that can hold up to a 37" tire as well as carry two gas cans. This was not just a bolt on. I had the hole rear end of the frame reinforced to allow this bumper to preform and not compromise the integrity of the frame. Fuel Tank *20 gallon Genright Off Road fuel tank with built in skid plate. Seats *Master Craft front seats with lumbar and built-in seat heaters with 5 point harnesses. Heaters on seats still have to be wired into electrical. *Twisted Stitch rear kids suspension seats with 5 point harnesses. These seats are perfect for kids from 4-12. Overview: Spring Over Lift Axels - Front Dana 45 / Rear Dana 60 with ARB lockers on both Warn Hubs on front end 37x12.50x17 BF Goodrich Krawler TA Tires (500 miles max on tires) 17x9 Pro Comp Extreme Wheels Professionally installed 5.7L Throttle Body Injected V8 motor (Donor motor) Magnaflow twin cats (Brand new) and Flowmaster mufflers NV4500 5 Speed Transmission Dana 300 Transfer Case Suspension Off Road Seats with 5 point harnesses Painless Wiring Kit AutoMeter gauges built-in to custom cut dash Radiator custom made to suit motor swap and engine compartment Optima Battery Steering Stabilizer Power Steering Power Brakes New mirrors TJ style mounted to doors TJ fender flares with plenty of cutaway for wheeling Best branded center console mounted to roll cage (room for future stereo head unit).  I have a binder with every receipt and piece product information that pertains to this build in it. All CA smog paperwork as well as the information on the vehicle that the CPU has been tuned to is included. Vehicle has recently gone through an extensive checkup and tune up locally in Placerville CA at an off-road specific mechanic shop. This Jeep will end up selling for a fraction of the 40k I have into it.

Chrysler expecting up to 200,000 9-speed transmissions for 3 models this year

Tue, 22 Jan 2013

Striving for improved fuel economy, we already knew that Chrysler will begin using a nine-speed automatic transmission in some of its new products this year, but what we haven't known is that volume at which this gearbox will be used. According to Bloomberg, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has been quoted as saying that the automaker expects to sell close to 200,000 units equipped with this new transmission in 2013. Those gear-rich trannies will be spread out across three models, consisting of the redesigned Chrysler 200, the still-unnamed Jeep Liberty replacement and the Dodge Dart.
This transmission should play a pivotal role in making Chrysler vehicles more competitive in their respective segments. Just for comparison, one of the Dart's key competitors, the Toyota Corolla, still uses a four-speed automatic, and a previous report indicates that the next-generation 200 could get up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway, which is better than most non-hybrid midsize sedans on the market. Marchionne says that the new Jeep model is expected during the second quarter of this year, but there is no word as to when the new 200 or nine-speed Dart will debut, but clearly Dodge would like to have the transmission in its compact yesterday. As for that volume figure, it definitely doesn't seem out of reach since the Dart, Liberty and 200 combined for a total of more than 225,000 units in 2012.
How many more gears can we expect in future cars? Probably not many more, since the CEO of transmission-builder ZF, Stefan Sommer, previously stated that nine speeds was the "natural limit" for transmissions.

Jeep hiring 1,000 part-time workers in Toledo on Wrangler, Cherokee demand

Wed, 12 Mar 2014

The new Jeep Cherokee has been quite a success for Chrysler, but its factory workers are getting tired. The automaker has agreed to hire up to 1,000 part-time, temporary employees at its Toledo Assembly Complex where the CUV and Wrangler are built. It will allow the company to keep Jeep production moving, while giving laborers a break.
According to plant manager Chuck Padden in the Toledo Blade, full-time workers are regularly taking on 60 hours a week, and it's beginning to wear on them. "To get them more time off is important to us, to make sure they're refreshed, and can work safely," said Padden.
Chrysler has already hired 380 temporary, part-time workers for the plant, and 50 have been converted to full-time employees. The company is in the process of interviewing the rest of the new hires now and plans to have all 1,000 in place by the summer. They will work between 10 and 30 hours a week mostly on weekends for $15.78 per hour with limited benefits. The temporary positions will last "as long as demand continues for the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Cherokee," said Jodi Tinson, Chrysler spokesperson for manufacturing and labor communications, to Autoblog in an email.

Chrysler registers Trackhawk trademark

Wed, 01 Oct 2014

There may not be many ways to forecast what an automaker is planning for the future, but there are some. Trademark applications are one of them, and Chrysler has just applied with the US Patent and Trademark Office to protect the name "Trackhawk." The question is, what's it planning on using it for? We don't know for sure, but we can put together an educated guess or two. And one guess is that Jeep will use the name to replace the letters SRT on the performance version of the Grand Cherokee.
How do we figure, you ask? From a number of developments. For starters, the SRT division has been reintegrated into the Dodge brand. Those letters currently appear on only two vehicles from outside the Dodge lineup: one is the Grand Cherokee SRT, and the other is the Chrysler 300 SRT. We've heard ruminations (however unconfirmed) that the latter could be either discontinued or possibly relabeled, and if the same proves true of the GC, the Trackhawk name could serve as a on-road performance counterpart to the Trailhawk label applied to off-road versions of models like the Cherokee and Renegade.
Logical it may be, but it's hardly a foregone conclusion. The Trackhawk name could just as easily be used for a new concept (like the Trailhawk name was in 2007), for another kind of trim level or for something else entirely. In fact we don't even know for sure it'll be used by the Jeep brand specifically, or used at all for that matter. Automakers have been known, after all, to register names they don't end up using.
