1984 Jeep Cj7 Renegade Sport Utility 2-door 2.5l - Redone on 2040-cars
Van Nuys, California, United States
Hey Jeep Lovers - This wonderful CJ7 belonged to my partner Max who passed away in August 2012. He bought the jeep back in 1984 when he moved out here to California from Kentucky (via NYC) - he was a young, handsome actor (see MAX) - quite the ladies man - and he loved having such a great ride. Take the top down and drive to the beach or put it up and head to the mountains. Years later I met him, years later, he still had the jeep and he took care of it. But no matter my cajoling, he didn't want to undertake extensive repairs. He would say, "Maybe later." Well, cancer happened and "later" became never. He left me with his beautiful beast of a jeep. It suited him in his cutoff jeans and aviator sunglasses. The Kentucky boy gone to sunny Cali. It's made for camping trips to Joshua Tree and driving on the beach in Pismo. It's an adventure all its own and it's got so much life left in it and so many memories to make. I've got to leave that adventuring to you- I am too much of a wimp to drive it; besides I am too short- my feet don’t even reach the pedals! I decided to fix up the jeep (and boy did I ever!) and sell it to someone who will love it as much as Max did. Now... he’s probably smiling and shaking his head at me from the Great Beyond, since his “baby” got a newly rebuilt engine, fuel injection, Electronic distributor, new insides....and so much more. I wish I could’ve rebuilt Max like I’ve done with his Jeep! He was a real keeper. Take a good look...You are getting a “new” car in an older, but still pretty darn nice body! I've had this vehicle completely restored so check it out and drive it in great health! Jeep's new Chip Away commercial has us hunting Al Pacino's back catalog
Tue, 19 Feb 2013Chrysler has done a pretty good job as of late turning its television commercials into pep talks or rallying cries, but for its first ad for the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, it turned to Al Pacino's inspirational speech from the movie Any Given Sunday. In the movie, Pacino's character talks about how football is a game of inches, but the commercial, titled Chip Away, focuses more on the attention to detail that Jeep has exhibited on its updated flagship SUV.
Centering around the newest Grand Cherokee model, the luxurious $47,995 Summit trim level, the commercial shows off some of the hand-stitched leathers and real metal and wood accents found inside the cabin. Check out the new 60-second spot by scrolling below.
2016 Jeep Wrangler to ditch solid axles to save weight?
Tue, 29 Oct 2013Hey, Jeep fans. If you think the idea of a funky-looking, car-based Cherokee revival is offensive, have a listen to what might be in store for the next-gen Jeep Wrangler. Automotive News is reporting that as Jeep develops the 2016 Wrangler, weight reduction is a crucial target, and the Wrangler's rugged solid axles could be sacrificed in the name of better fuel economy.
We've already heard the next Wrangler will go on a serious diet using aluminum body panels and an air suspension system, so the idea of a four-wheel independent suspension setup for this OG SUV isn't all that surprising. Besides, it's not like an independent suspension would limit the Wrangler's off-road abilities - just check out the Hummer H1. In fact, it might be the aftermarket parts companies - not Wrangler enthusiasts - who would be most disappointed by such a drastic suspension change, as the article states that the Wrangler's solid axles and coil-link suspension make it the most popular SUV for customization.
There are probably still a couple years before we'll start hearing any concrete details about the 2016 Wrangler, at which time it will be interesting to see how stricter fuel economy and crash safety regulations have been balanced with traditional Wrangler cues like its removable doors and roof and folding windshield. Let us know in the comments below if a Wrangler sans solid axles is any less of a Wrangler.
7 months later, Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall still stalled
Tue, 14 Jan 2014For the past few years, Chrysler and its CEO, Sergio Marchionne, have gone head-to-head with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and its boss, David Strickland, over the government safety agency's request for Chrysler to recall almost three-million Jeep vehicles due to what NHTSA says is a safety issue that has caused at least 51 deaths. After a three-year investigation and Chrysler's initial refusal to issue a recall because it deemed the vehicles safe and built to the day's federal requirements, last summer, the two parties compromised on a "voluntary campaign" to inspect 1.56 million vehicles, those being the 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokee and 2002 to 2007 Liberty.
Those vehicles were designed with their gas tanks between the rear axle and the bumper, and NHTSA says that in rear-end collisions, damage to the fuel tank has caused fires responsible for those 51 deaths. The compromise reached last summer was that Chrysler would inspect 1.56 million vehicles and, "if necessary, provide an upgrade to the rear structure of the vehicle." Practically speaking, that meant Chrysler would replace aftermarket trailer hitches, but would take no action if a vehicle had a factory-installed hitch or an aftermarket hitch from Mopar.
A report in The Detroit News says the "voluntary campaign" is just now getting under way, with Chrysler saying last week that the design of the replacement part had been finalized and it was tooling up "to deliver the required volume." Seven months later, still in question is whether NHTSA will crash-test the fix engineered by Chrysler, noteworthy because not only did the vehicles in question pass every safety standard necessary to be cleared for sale at the time, there are still questions (to those of us on the outside) as to how the Jeeps at issue fare among their peers in such incidents. Either way, Chrysler and NHTSA apparently still disagree on the efficacy of the remedy itself: the carmaker says it might help in low-speed crashes but not high-speed collisions, a position the NHTSA is at odds with. All of this means the campaign doesn't yet have an end in sight.
