Nothing says "I'll go anywhere" quite like a Jeep CJ7 especially one with substantial upgrades under the skin. More power more suspension and a full cosmetic makeover make this 1983 Jeep CJ7 the ultimate way to get noticed. It might just be the most recognizable automobile in the entire world. It has been on every continent and crossed the most forbidding land in the world. Even more than 40 years after it arrived on the scene the evergreen Jeep kept its rugged good looks. Someone has kept up with this one restoring it as-needed over the course of its three decades. CJ7s were notorious for rusting particularly around the rear of the body but this one was spared that fate thanks to a lifetime someplace warm and amazingly it's never needed a full restoration. The black paint isn't perfect but it is nice enough that you'll stand out at the local cruise and definitely think twice about plunging into the brush with it and you'll definitely have the hardware to get wherever you need to go. Accessories include chrome bumpers and grille tubular steps plus a khaki soft top with soft doors and matching bimini top. WWII GIs would have killed for an interior like this in their Jeeps but it remains simple and durable in the best off-roading tradition. New black bucket seats look expensive and upscale gripping you tightly when you're rocking around in the dirt. The dash has been painted in the same black paint as the body with all the original gauges reinstalled so it has a custom look that's all Jeep.  Also the interior has been completely Rhino lined to stand up to any amount of dirt that you can throw at it.  Black rubber mats and matching roll bar padding give it a go-anywhere feel and there's no denying that it's still basic and rugged. The entire condition suggests it's been well maintained. Mechanically this Jeep is virtually invincible. Many Jeepers prefer an engine swap and this one has it.  It has avery smooth torquey Edelbrock Chevy 350.  The engine bay is tidy and has not been submerged or driven in the really harsh environments.  There are plenty of signs that someone loved this CJ.  A 1-inch body lift and gives the suspension a little extra clearance when it's needed. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts smooth with a nice stiff clutch. Newer shocks and a true dual side exhaust ensure reliability and comfort anywhere you go. Handsome 15-inch aluminum wheels wear big 33x12.50-15 off-road tires that look so cool that you should keep them even if you never plan on going off the pavement. If you like playing in the dirt this CJ7 is the right tool for the job. And even if you don't it has the right look and plenty of comfort to drive every day.

Chrysler registers Trackhawk trademark

Wed, 01 Oct 2014

There may not be many ways to forecast what an automaker is planning for the future, but there are some. Trademark applications are one of them, and Chrysler has just applied with the US Patent and Trademark Office to protect the name "Trackhawk." The question is, what's it planning on using it for? We don't know for sure, but we can put together an educated guess or two. And one guess is that Jeep will use the name to replace the letters SRT on the performance version of the Grand Cherokee.
How do we figure, you ask? From a number of developments. For starters, the SRT division has been reintegrated into the Dodge brand. Those letters currently appear on only two vehicles from outside the Dodge lineup: one is the Grand Cherokee SRT, and the other is the Chrysler 300 SRT. We've heard ruminations (however unconfirmed) that the latter could be either discontinued or possibly relabeled, and if the same proves true of the GC, the Trackhawk name could serve as a on-road performance counterpart to the Trailhawk label applied to off-road versions of models like the Cherokee and Renegade.
Logical it may be, but it's hardly a foregone conclusion. The Trackhawk name could just as easily be used for a new concept (like the Trailhawk name was in 2007), for another kind of trim level or for something else entirely. In fact we don't even know for sure it'll be used by the Jeep brand specifically, or used at all for that matter. Automakers have been known, after all, to register names they don't end up using.

Jeep marks 75th anniversary in Detroit with special editions

Tue, Jan 12 2016

It's been 75 years since the Jeep brand was founded. To celebrate the occasion, the sport-ute manufacturer has rolled out an array of six special editions – one for each model in its lineup. And they've each marked their debut here in Detroit. The 75th Anniversary Editions of the Wrangler, Renegade, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Compass, and Patriot are all decked out in green – though the exact shade differs between models, and they can be ordered in different colors for those who prefer. Either way, the bodywork is offset by bronze trim, mesh fabric interiors, and all the special-edition badges you could ask for. And in true Jeep style, they all offer some degree of open-airedness, even if that just means a sunroof. Of course, bringing back the Wrangler pickup and Grand Wagoneer – both of which are planned for this milestone year – would be agreeable as well, as would a Hellcat-powered Grand Cherokee SRT. But for now these special editions strike us as suitable a way as any to celebrate three quarters of a century of rock-crawling. Check 'em out in the gallery above of live images from the floor of the Detroit Auto Show for a closer look before they reach dealers in the first quarter of this year. THE JEEP® BRAND CELEBRATES 75 YEARS OF LEGENDARY HISTORY WITH FULL LINEUP OF NEW SPECIAL-EDITION MODELS - New 75th Anniversary models available across entire Jeep® lineup - Special-edition vehicles feature unique available Jeep Green exterior, Satin Bronze wheels, Bronze and Orange exterior accents, unique interiors, open-air freedom and 75th Anniversary badging - Available in Jeep dealer showrooms first quarter 2016 January 6, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Born in 1941, the Jeep® brand celebrates 75 years of 4x4 leadership, military history, and open-air freedom and adventure in 2016. As a tribute to this diamond anniversary celebration, Jeep is creating distinctive, 75th Anniversary special-edition models of each vehicle in its lineup. "Jeep vehicles have defined the authentic SUV and set the benchmark for off-road capability and freedom since they were first produced in 1941," said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global. "Today, Jeep SUVs continue to deliver 4x4 leadership, as well as fuel efficiency, world-class craftsmanship and premium on-road dynamics.

Chrysler recalling 630k Jeep models worldwide

Thu, 06 Jun 2013

Despite its refusal to recall 2.7 million Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty models this week over a gas tank fire risk, Chrysler will be recalling 630,000 Jeep Compass (pictured), Patriot and Wrangler vehicles around the globe for a pair of entirely different reasons.
The affected Compass and Patriot models are all from the 2010 to 2012 model years - 254,000 in the United States, 45,400 in Canada and 109,000 elsewhere in the world. In these models, a software error may result in the late deployment of the side airbags and seatbelt tensioners. In the event of a crash, failure of these systems could result in more serious injuries for the vehicle's occupants.
Jeep's go-anywhere Wrangler also faces a separate recall due to power steering fluid lines that can possibly wear a hole in the transmission oil cooler line. According to Chrysler, the vehicles could then leak fluid, possibly damaging the transmissions. Roughly 221,100 Wrangler models are being recalled because of this issue, all of which are fitted with Jeep's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. In the US, 181,000 vehicles are affected, with an additional 18,400 in Canada and 21,700 additional units worldwide. A Chrysler spokesperson said that no crashes or injuries have been reported with either case, according to the Associated Press.
