Jeep Cherokee finally dealer-bound
Tue, 22 Oct 2013We had our First Drive of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee last month, but it appears that prospective buyers won't have too much longer to finally get time behind the wheel of the new small Jeep.
Automotive News is reporting that after a two-month delay, Jeep dealers will finally start receiving their first shipments of the new Cherokee, in the next 10 days. A Chrysler spokesperson confirmed to Autoblog that the Cherokee is indeed on its way to Jeep dealers.
According to AN, about 23,000 Cherokees have been built since production commenced back in June, but potential powertrain issues forced Jeep to make adjustments to the Cherokee along the way. Automotive News says that in order to make sure there are no issues with the Cherokee before it reaches customers, it is testing each vehicle after it rolls off the assembly line at a rented test track near the vehicle's Toledo North Assembly Plant.
Refreshed Jeep Cherokee gets more conservative styling
Tue, Jun 6 2017When the Jeep Cherokee hit the market a few years ago, it created a bit of controversy within the Jeep community. The two biggest issues were the styling and the fact that the former rough-and-tumble Cherokee was now a soft, car-based crossover. While there isn't much that can be done about the latter, it looks like Jeep is planning to address the Cherokee's love-it-or-hate-it looks. These spy shots, in typical fashion, don't reveal as much as we would like. The Cherokee here has a good amount of camouflage covering the front and rear fascias, the two areas that generated controversy. It looks like the headlights have moved up and sit alongside the bumper, not below it. The seven-slot grille remains, but there would likely be fires in Toledo if that disappeared. The rear has been changed as well, and it looks like there is a body-width trim piece similar to that on the Grand Cherokee. When the refreshed Cherokee debuts, the Jeep lineup will be murkier than ever. More conservative styling would make it look like a baby Grand Cherokee, but that's exactly what the all-new Compass looks like. It seems the pair might step on each other's toes, but Jeep must hope it's better than going to another manufacturer. Look for a full reveal this fall. Jeep Super Bowl commercial nets criticism from fish conservationists [Update]
Thu, Feb 15 2018Update. FCA got back to us with the following statement: "The Jeep brand and FCA cooperate with federal/state/local governments and organizations, including Tread Lightly and Access Fund, around the world to help ensure that its vehicles are being utilized in a legal and responsible manner, and follow those guidelines when demonstrating their off-road capabilities. Ecological assessments are made and considered when the Jeep brand conducts demonstrations of a vehicle's off-roading capabilities. The vehicle shown in this video is driving on a designated county road that experiences seasonal runoff and its performance capabilities are authentically portrayed consistent with the Jeep brand philosophy. Other examples of how Jeep demonstrates vehicle capabilities take place at the brand's Camp Jeep activities at auto shows and experiential events." The Super Bowl is always packed to the brim with various car commercials. FCA in particular had a big showing this year with ads from both Ram and Jeep. It's the latter that seems to have drawn the ire of some organizations, particularly one where a new Jeep Cherokee drove up a stream in a commercial called "The Road." Trout Unlimited, a freshwater conservation organization, has criticized FCA for encouraging driving that might endanger fish habitats. Trout Unlimited President and CEO Chris Wood sent a letter to FCA chief Sergio Marchionne, calling the commercial "wrongheaded" and that Jeep got some "bad marketing advice on this one." Wood says many of Trout Unlimited's members are Jeep owners and that he previously owned a Jeep CJ7 that he took all over Vermont. He says that he took it off-roading, though he never drove right up the middle of a stream. We're waiting on a comment from Jeep, but MSN reports that the automaker is defending the ads — though there aren't plans to run them again. Trout Unlimited says driving up and damaging streams can destroy the gravel where fish lay eggs. Either way, off-roaders should always be mindful of their surroundings so they don't destroy the land or sink their vehicles after, say, breaking through the ice on a frozen lake. Related Video:
