1974 Jeep CJ5 Renegade, 304ci V8, 4x4, Warn Locking Hubs

Body Off Restored, Life-Long Arizona Jeep CJ!

This week Canyon State Classics brings to market an awesome example of a 1974 Jeep CJ-5 Renegade in stunning condition inside and out. This Jeep was bought brand new at Galloway Motors on October 3rd, 1973 by Mr. Thomas Payne of Tucson. This Jeep has Southwest desert area its whole life and is completely solid and rust-free, and still retains its all original steel tub with no patch work. This little CJ has just come out of the collection of a 35 year Jeep dealer and expert who just recently completed a full frame off restoration on this gorgeous CJ-5. He stated that he believes the miles are original at 40k, as he knows the Jeep was off the road for the better part of 25 years before the restoration. The vehicle has been carefully restored to like new condition! Don't miss your chance to own one of the cleanest CJs on the market today...BID NOW!!

The list of some of the equipment:

-Original AMC 304ci 8 Cylinder (Renegade Only)

-Borg Warner T-15 3 Speed Trans (72-75 CJ)

-Original Dana Spicer 20 Four Wheel Drive Transfer Case

-Original Dana Spicer 44 Rear Diff and Dana 30 Front Diff

-Warn Locking Front Hubs

-Original Renegade Wheels (Freshly Polished)

-5 New Good Year Wrangler Tires

-Bucket Seats w/ Locking Console

-Bikini Top

-Rear Roll Bar

-Original Rear Tire Rack with Matching Spare (Renegade Option)

The body on this CJ is in great condition overall. The paint on the Jeep is all brand new, and underneath the jeep looks as clean as on top! As I mentioned before this Jeep was taken completely off the frame and painted in pieces before being re-assembled. While the body was off, the frame was boxed above each leaf spring mounting point, to strengthen the Jeep substantially. The body on the jeep is all steel and is very straight. The jeep started off as a totally rust free body before the restoration, so you know the final product is great! The CJ is painted in its original color of Golden Tan Metallic and has had the correct Renegade graphics just re-installed as well as brand new fender flares! The windshield is correctly painted black, and the interior floors are all very nicely sprayed with a black non slip paint under the carpet kit, which is just laid in, not glued.

The interior is in great shape all around. The original seats have been recovered and are all in great condition with no tares or rips of any kind and no signs of wear. The dash is in nice shape with all correct gauges in place and everything functioning as it should. A beautiful black carpet kit is freshly installed. Another extremely rare thing about this CJ is the original, working Jeep AM radio and speaker, which was rarely ordered at an extra cost! The seats do have original seat belts, and windshield wipers work.

Mechanically, this little CJ runs GREAT! The jeep starts right up and the rebuilt three speed shifts properly and had an all new clutch and slave cylinder installed when the drive train was bolted back together. The 304ci V8 moves this Jeep around with ease and is actually quite peppy and the carburetor was just overhauled and new fuel pump and tank installed. The motor was opened up checked out, and then resealed with all new gaskets before going back on the frame. I personally drove the Jeep back from Tucson driving at a constant 75mph for nearly 2 hours! The Jeep is very tight and doesn't leak a drop of anything and the cooling system keeps the motor cool even in the Arizona heat. The four wheel drive system functions perfectly and the locking hubs work correctly. All brakes were fully serviced and work perfectly. The electrical system was updated and the original Motorola alternator was replaced with a more dependable AC Delco alternator/regulator combo. This jeep is extremely reliable and starts right up every time.

All in all, this is one heck of a nice Jeep to drive and will get compliments as well as stares everywhere it goes. If you have been searching for a nearly showroom perfect Jeep CJ-5, your search ends here! The car has a clean Arizona Title. Any further questions please call Jon at 480-703-2337. The car is located in Sunny Scottsdale, AZ!

Chrysler recalls 350k vehicles over ignition switches

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

Chrysler has announced a recall covering 349,442 vehicles due to ignition switches that can either become stuck or move without warning. All of the affected vehicles are from the 2008 model year, and were built before May 12, 2008.
The automaker has learned that ignition keys on some vehicles "may not fully return to the 'ON' position after rotation to the 'START' position during engine-startup," the company said in a statement. Additionally, "an ignition key may not fully return to the 'ON' position after rotation to the 'START' position and may inadvertently move through the 'ON' position to 'ACCESSORY' or 'OFF.'"
Chrysler says it is unaware of any related injuries, and notes that while reduced braking, engine or steering power is possible in such instances, the airbags are not affected. The later stands in contrast to General Motors' recent rash of high-profile recalls, and it's an important distinction that Chrysler (understandably) felt necessary to call out in bold print in its press release.

New Jeep Wrangler caught nearly uncovered

Wed, Sep 6 2017

Finally, after months of seeing Wrangler prototypes carefully covered up, we get a look at some prototypes with the bare minimum of camouflage. Starting from the front, the fascia looks just as it did in previously leaked images. In contrast to the outgoing model, the trademark grille slots are now taller, stretching nearly to the top of the grille surround. The headlights also intersect with the grille slots, resulting in slightly pinched slots at either end. Aside from the grille, we can get a clear view of the new horizontal, fender-mounted turn signals and the traditional exposed hood latches. Moving along the SUV, we find hinges at the base of the windshield, which seems to confirm that you'll still be able to fold it down for maximum wind exposure. And, as we've seen before, the doors have exposed hinges that indicate the doors can come off, too. We can also see that the Wrangler will be offered with both contrasting black plastic fender flares, and with body-colored versions. But unlike past models, the body-colored examples aren't completely painted, leaving a black strip along the edges. Interestingly, the fender vents seen on another fully exposed example of the Wrangler don't appear to be present on these prototypes. They could be covered, or they may be an optional appearance item. At the back, we now get to see the Wrangler's new taillights, which are LED units with an I-beam shape. The exposed gas filler cap is now gone, in favor of a permanently attached filler door. Both the license plate mount and rear window wiper have been moved, too. The license plate now mounts to the bumper, and the rear wiper hides at the base of the rear window behind the spare tire. The rear bumper also gets some red lenses that could simply be reflectors, or possibly rear fog lights. As previously reported, the new Jeep Wrangler is expected to make its debut at this year's LA auto show, with the first deliveries arriving to dealers not long after. It will be available with either a four-cylinder or V6 at launch, with a diesel coming later, and the truck sometime after that. Other new features to the Wrangler could include a roof with power sliding panels, and full-time four-wheel drive. Related Video:

Jeep dealers worried Grand Wagoneer could be too much, too late

Mon, Jun 18 2018

On January 10, 2011, an Automotive News article quoted Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne saying, "It's time we gave the market an upper-scale Grand Wagoneer." Like Babe Ruth pointing a finger at the far stands, Marchionne next predicted our date with historical destiny: "You'll see it in January 2013." Had that happened, the Grand Wagoneer would been a grand slam. Seven years later, with various economic factors in flux and still with no Grand Wagoneer in sight, it seems some Fiat Chrysler dealers are worried the luxury three-row Jeep could appear after the SUV game is over or, at the very least, much harder to play. What got in the way of the Grand Wagoneer? Shifting plans for and the need to pour money into Alfa Romeo. The debate about what kind of vehicle the Wagoneer should be — a unibody Range Rover rival, or a body-on-frame Chevrolet Suburban foe. After that, what should the thing look like? And then there's Fiat Chrysler's North American manufacturing capacity, which can't shoehorn space for Grand Wagoneer production at the same time as it needs lines running for two Ram 1500 model years. That last point is what could push Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer arrival to 2021. Outside the company, at least one Bank of America Merill Lynch analyst believes that economic forces such as a shrinking car market, more competition, higher interest rates on more expensive cars, lower used car prices, and higher gas prices will soon bring an end to the "Goldilocks" phase of crossover mania. He isn't alone, with an IHS analyst saying the same thing three years ago, another IHS analyst diving deeper into the declining numbers two years ago, and three other analysts breaking down depressed used car prices. Fuel prices are anyone's guess, but those other pressures could squeeze retailers trying to sell high-end metal. No one expects the Grand Wagoneer to fail, yet dealers don't expect the vehicle to practically sell itself. One dealer told AN, "We could have killed with [the Grand Wagoneer] if it had been available when they first told us about it, but it's a much tougher sell with interest rates and gas prices going up." Another dealer, perhaps more sanguine, said, "The Grand Wagoneer will still sell because it's a Jeep. But it would have been nice to have them already." "Nice" is an understatement. One dealership was so excited about getting the new big Jeep that it wrote a blog post in 2015 announcing the Grand Wagoneer's arrival in 2018.
