542-HP Jaguar XJR to debut at New York Auto Show

Jaguar has just announced that a higher-than-ever performance version of its XJ flagship will be coming to this year's New York Auto Show next week. Joining the company's R lineup is this XJR, which will boast a stonking 542 horsepower from its supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine.
Though details about the new XJ are pretty slim - you can read Jag's teaser of a press release - we are told that the car will ride on a "bespoke chassis" and that some aerodynamics work has been done, as well. The one sultry image we have of the car shows a set of trim-specific wheels, lower sills and unique badging on the front grille.
The new XJR would seem to slot above the current top-dog XJ, the XJ Supersport. With a bump up of 32 hp versus the Supersport, performance should get a meaningful shot in the arm, as well. As for pricing, we'll have to wait for the NYC show to be sure. But other Jaguar models show an increase of between 15- and 20-percent between the R model and the next one down; that would indicate a price tag in the $130k range for a standard wheelbase XJR is in order.

2024 Jaguar F-Type ZP Edition is the end of the line

The Jaguar F-Type is going to leave us after the 2024 model year wraps up, but it’s not saying goodbye without a final limited-edition model. Named the F-Type ZP Edition, Jaguar will make just 150 of these throughout the 2024 model year. Why “ZP” Edition? Jaguar says itÂ’s a callback to the first race-winning “Project ZP” E-Type vehicles that were campaigned directly after that modelÂ’s launch in 1961. There will be two specifications for potential owners to choose from. The first is Oulton Blue paint combined with a red and black interior, and the other option is Crystal Grey paint with a blue and black interior. Both models will have Porcelain White hand-painted racing-style roundels on the doors. WeÂ’ll also note that neither of the two available exterior paint options have been offered on the F-Type until now. Of course, the base car underneath all the appearance extras is an F-Type R with the 575-horsepower supercharged V8 engine. YouÂ’ll be able to choose either the coupe or convertible, and both body styles get unique 20-inch forged wheels with “ZP” etched into them shrouding black-painted calipers. YouÂ’ll also see ZP Edition branding on the fenders, sill plates and dashboard. Plus, each vehicle will get a “One of 150” SV Bespoke plaque on the interior. Tata to get Jaguar and Land Rover tech, platforms too?

Since buying Jaguar Land Rover, Indian automaker Tata has generally left its luxury arm's platforms and technology alone. However, those days might be gone. The two of them are gradually growing closer with coordinated development and rumors of shared platforms. And it looks like all of that work and money is finally going to pay off with an actual vehicle in the near future.
According to Australian website Drive, Tata wants to make its cars more attractive to buyers outside of India, and to do that the company knows it must improve quality. The Indian company is being careful, though, because it doesn't want to dilute the Jaguar or Land Rover brands with cheap models. "You're going to see in the future a lot of sharing of technologies and platforms over time, but you won't see a JLR with a Tata badge on it," said Darren Bowler, managing director of Tata's Australian distributor, to Drive.
According to Bowler, these future vehicles are already on the way. Tata and JLR have a global platform in the works for 2017 that both companies could use for cars or crossovers. He also hinted that Jaguar's new Ingenium engines could be shared among the brands in the future, too.
