Jaguar Land Rover UK factories could shut down in two weeks due to coronavirus

COVENTRY, England — Jaguar Land Rover has enough parts from China to maintain its British production for the next two weeks but not beyond that at the moment, Chief Executive Ralf Speth said on Tuesday. Britain's biggest carmaker, which operate three car factories in its home market, joined major global companies such as Apple in warning of the impact of the virus on supply chains. The rapidly spreading virus has killed nearly 1,900 in China and stricken some 72,000 people, confining millions to their homes, disrupting supply chains and delaying reopening of factories after the extended Lunar New Year holiday break. "We are safe for this week and we are safe for next week and in the third week we have... parts missing," said Speth when asking about the potential impact on British production. He said the firm's Chinese factory would open next week and was "safe for the very first week." Sales were not currently happening in China and it was unclear when they would return, he added. The boss of Tata Motors, JLR's parent company, speaking at the same event, said the company does not have sufficient visibility regarding parts suppliers from China. "We are safe for the month of February and for a good part of March," said Guenter Butschek. "Are we fully covered at this point of time for the full month of March? Unfortunately...not." 2021 Jaguar F-Type pricing announced, including a big decrease

CHICAGO — Jaguar unveiled the redesigned 2021 F-Type coupe and convertible just before the end of 2019, but pricing was kept in the dark. Today, at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show, Jaguar put numbers to trims, and the starting price remains the same at $62,625, including destination. Other trims, however, see somewhat significant price increases or decreases. For now, Jaguar released information for coupe and convertible versions of the P300, the P300 First Edition, the all-wheel-drive P380 R-Dynamic, and the all-wheel-drive R. The P300, with a 296-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and rear-wheel drive, opens the books at $62,625, including destination, which is the same as the 2020 model. A First Edition, which is based on the P300 R-Dynamic, features the Exterior Design Pack and 20-inch Gloss Technical Gray wheels and starts at $74,125.  The P380 R-Dynamic with a 380-horsepower supercharged 3.0-liter V6 and all-wheel drive starts at $82,825, which is a major price decrease from 2020's price of $88,325. The most powerful version in the current 2021 F-Type lineup is the R (an SVR is expected at a later time). With a 575-horsepower supercharged V8 and all-wheel drive, the 2021 F-Type R starts at $104,225, which is slightly more expensive than the $102,825 price for 2020. All four detailed trims are also available as convertibles. On the P300 and P380 R-Dynamic, the convertible is a $3,100 upcharge. For the First Edition, the convertible is $2,300 more expensive, and the convertible R is $2,700 more expensive than the coupe.

Jaguar XE to be built in China

After a six-year absence, the Jaguar XE will return that most English of automotive companies to the compact premium segment, the brand's first whole-hearted launch into that market. For certain Western markets it begins production at the Land Rover plant in Solihull early next year, but it will also continue the brand's venture in to China having been chosen as the first Jaguar to be built there, according to a report in Automotive News. Jaguar-Land Rover owns a plant in Changshu, a joint venture with Chery Automobile, that started building the Range Rover Evoque this year and will add the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Previously, The Leaping Cat was selling cars built from kits at its factory in Pune, India. The brand figures to sell 20,000 cars in China next year, which would be less than a fifth of in-country sales for the JLR group, but the XE is the "spearhead vehicle" that "could make significant inroads" there, according to Jaguar. For comparison, Audi moved 120,450 A4s alone and BMW sold more than 100,000 3 Series models in China in 2013. Globally, Jaguar is predicted to sell 80,000 units this year. By 2017, after the release of the XE, new XF and coming crossover, plus factory expansions in China, Brazil and Saudi Arabia, it hopes to get that number up to 200,000 units; Forbes has a piece detailing why they think it's possible. The JLR group is shooting for a target of 850,000 units worldwide by 2020.
