The car is beautiful. Starting with a running, tired, all numbers matching(per the Heritage certificate) car, the body was disassembled, braced, removed from the frame and placed on a custom dolly. It was then media blasted,  Fairly minor rust was cut out, new metal continuous welded in and metal finished. Epoxy primer was applied inside and out. Then many, many hours were spent applying and blocking urethane surfacer. I'm very proud of how straight and flat the sides are and how smooth the curves are. The body was painted inside and out with Dupont basecoat/clearcoat then color sanded and polished. The gloss is evident in the pictures. The body was meant to end up as the factory made it- the only non stock area is a piece of steel as reinforcement for seat belts. New wood floors for the cockpit and boot were made and painted as per original. The body was reunited with the chassis with a new mount kit. A new wiring harness was installed. All chrome was either new, rechromed or a few parts were fine as is. New windshield glass. After the interior was installed, it was ready to drive. I really tried to use all original fasteners and most are. That's important if you are planning to have the car judged by the Jaguar club.

The car runs great. Starts easily, starting carb shuts off as it warms up, doesn't over heat- although I live in the country and don't have to deal with stop and go traffic. Brakes stop well. The 3-4 synchro is weak and will crunch if shifted fast, but is fine otherwise. The overdrive works well and is really cool to use. It handles well- new bushings, Spax adjustable shocks, even a new steering wheel make it a pleasure to drive. Last time I checked, all electrics were working except for the clock and the wiper motor. It worked on the bench when I refurbished it, so it is a wiring issue. It has 6 (I think) wires going to it and the diagrams are poor. I think they are in the wrong order.

Now the flaws: I have a beautiful new canvas top from OSJI and a refinished top frame that I haven't installed. It will need header wood(readily available) to install it. OSJI reupholstered the side curtains and supplied me with new fitted plexiglass for them. I had the frames rechromed. They will need chrome strips(also readily available) to finish them. There is a minor flaw in the body. During reassembly, I used a bolt slightly too long while installing the passenger rear fender. It raised a dimple in the rear bodywork along side the boot lid. I wasn't able to take a picture that showed it. It really is that small, but it drives me crazy. The tach cable broke last week, I'll supply a new one. I had XKS in California re-porcelain the manifolds for me (>700.00!). I see they have chipped. I've been told that means mixture or ignition settings are off, but it runs so well, I'm not sure that is the case.

I have a clear MI title. I transferred  from a clear Indiana title. It listed the car as a 1954 model. but it is clearly a 1955. the Heritage certificate says it was manufactured 26 January 1955. As stated before, all numbers match the heritage certificate. Who knows what the real mileage is. EBay requires that I list the odometer reading, but I have no idea what has happened in the last 59 years!

The original color was pastel blue with blue interior and a tan top and side curtains. I just couldn't do it. The color now is I believe a correct Suede Green, suede green interior and a black top and side curtains.

I have 5 original 54 spoke wire wheels(one is the spare). They have old bias ply tires on them, but are useful if the car will be judged. The new owner is welcome to them, though shipping may be problematic.

I truly believe the new owner will enjoy this car for years to come!

Eagle Lightweight GT meticulous Jaguar restomod is 'the best an E-Type can be'

Thu, Jun 25 2020

England claims so many boutique, specialist car companies doing such sensational work that if an artist were to draw a national muse for Britannia, she would hold a scepter in one hand and a gear shift in the other. Next up in the island's crowded showroom of posh vehicular gems, Eagle presents its Lightweight GT. The slinky coupe started as a Series 1 Jaguar E-Type (built from 1961 to 1968), then, after 8,000 hours of work in the chrysalis of Eagle's East Sussex workshops, the coupe emerges as a modern and much more comfortable version of Jaguar's factory Lightweight racers from 1963. Some context: After Jaguar stepped away from racing in the late 1950s, the company decided to convert 25 incomplete D-Type chassis into the road-legal XKSS roadster. Come 1962, with the D-Type and competition still on its mind, Jaguar toyed with its new E-Type road car to create the Low Drag Coupe for competition. The factory built just one, powered by a mightier version of the 3.8-liter straight-six in the E-Type that used a wide-angle cylinder head designed for the D-Type. The next year, Jaguar's racing fancy expressed itself in the E-Type Lightweight, still harking back to the D-Type with all-aluminum bodywork and an aluminum block for the 3.8-liter. The automaker planned to fabricate 18 Lightweights, but only got around to building 12. The Lightweights didn't dominate any of the big races, but privateers put them to effective use in smaller series. Their pedigree, aura, and multi-million-dollar valuations convinced Ford to debut an Advanced Lightweight Coupe Concept at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, and in 2014 convinced Jaguar to complete the six remaining cars in the 18-car build.      Enter Eagle. After its Speedster, Low Drag GT and Spyder GT, the firm calls the Lightweight GT the answer to the question, "What’s the best an E-Type can be?" The hand-formed aluminum skin takes 2,500 hours to shape, revised slightly for better aerodynamics and comfort. A deeper ramp angle in front leads to deeper side sills, which bolster chassis stiffness, and with a lower floorpan, put the driver lower in the car and give him more headroom. Larger wheel arches fit 16-inch magnesium alloy versions of the peg-drive wheel Dunlop introduced in 1954, an inch larger than the wheels on the original Lightweights, and aluminum, three-eared knock-offs. There's steeper rake to the windshield and backlight.

Watch new Jaguar XF perform a literal high-wire act

Thu, Mar 26 2015

Coming out with a new luxury sedan can be a truly daunting prospect. Make it too edgy and you'll risk disenfranchising what can often be a rather conservative customer base. Make it too conservative and you may fail to attract enough new customers or generate enough interest to make the endeavor worthwhile. Whether Jaguar succeeded in walking that thin line with the new XF is a matter of personal taste, blending as it does elements from the smaller XE and the outgoing XF it replaces. But in launching the new model, Jaguar didn't just pull of a figurative high-wire act – it did quite a literal one. To drum up support for its newest debut, Jaguar undertook the stunt depicted in the video above, stringing a pair of carbon-fiber cables some 60 feet above the River Thames in London. With some guide wires and counterbalance weights to keep it all in check, and a motion-picture stunt crew orchestrating it all, the new XF drove over 780 feet from one bank of the river to the other, setting a new world record in the process. Instead of thinking too hard about the whys (seriously, though... why?) and hows, we suggest you just watch the video above. Related Video:

What's better than a garage with a lift and a kitchen? Not much, UK owners say

Mon, Dec 18 2023

Some folks look to change houses because they need more room, or perhaps their current home's basement floods. Others want a “perfect garage” with a hydraulic lift. In the United Kingdom — where priorities may be different from those in the United States — research from eBay indicates that nearly two-thirds of UK motorists (65 percent) would consider moving for the ideal garage, and theyÂ’d be prepared to pay about 5% over asking price to have one. Reporting the results of a survey among 2,000 car enthusiasts, eBay says the lift and custom toolboxes would satisfy the need to makes repairs to the Aston Martin DB5 or the Jaguar E-type (the cars respondents said theyÂ’Â’d most want installed in the garage). Certainly a built-in drain would be a nice touch for washing the vehicles, as well as proper ventilation for those paint touch-ups. A small kitchen in the garage and a jukebox would be lovely, also. Those polled were also asked to make a list of nifty additions to the garage space. Among the suggestions: a snooker table, decorative lighting, a La-Z-Boy recliner, and engine hoists. According to the research, more than 4-in-10 homeowners feel that their current garage stops them from fulfilling their passion for cars. More than half would be more likely to own a classic car if they had a garage to store it in. Said Oliver Bindloss of the Bindloss Dawes Architects firm that worked with eBay on the poll: “Garages are so much more than just a functional space for cars, they must be tough and work hard, but also be enjoyable spaces to relax in. For us as architects, the perfect garage has to start with the cars themselves.” Aston Martin Jaguar Car Buying Ownership Parts and Accessories Classics
