We are please to be offering an exceptionally beautiful and correct, ALL numbers matching (confirmed by the original Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate), original factory colors, mechanically solid 1952 Jaguar XK120 OTS (Roadster) finished in its factory correct Black over a Biscuit leather interior and including its rare original tool kit and changing tools. Finished in what is undoubtedly one of the best liveries, the spats, steel wheels and black wall tires give this car a menacing period look, offset beautifully by the ceaselessly tasteful Biscuit interior and the XK120’s gracefully swooping lines. The recipient of a recent cosmetic restoration, including a high quality paint job in its original Black, fresh chrome and rubber and gorgeous and correct new Biscuit leather interior with a new Fawn convertible top, this entirely pure, “no stories” XK120 OTS is one of the most beautifully presented roadsters we’ve ever had the pleasure of owning.

Originally distributed through Hoffman Motor Car Co. in New York, the car was originally delivered to its first owner in Connecticut, where it is believed to have remained until 1982, when it was purchased by a doctor from South Burlington, Vermont. A serious Jaguar enthusiast (and Jaguar company shareholder), the good doctor would continue to enjoy and maintain the car for the ensuing twenty-five years until his health began to falter and the car was put into storage. In 2010 a regional collector found out about the car through a mutual friend and, impressed with its honesty, lack of rust and complete originality (with numbers matching chassis, body, engine block, head and gearbox), he purchased it and began sorting through its mechanicals. We entered the picture when he became interested in a car we were offering at the time, and the roadster became part of a trade deal and made its way to the West Coast.

Within the last year the car received a high quality, bare-metal paint job in its factory correct Black, the brightwork was all removed and re-chromed, all of the rubber was replaced and the interior was reupholstered in timelessly beautiful and correct Biscuit leather to a Concours standard. The Fawn convertible soft-top was replaced and the hubcaps were re-chromed before being accented black and affixed to the original color matched steel wheels, which are wrapped in new, original spec Dunlop Roadspeed tires. The results of these efforts is stunning, thanks in part to high quality craftsmanship, but also to the fact that it was an entirely pure, correct and honest car to begin with. The body is straight and free of accident damage with excellent panel fits and gaps, and, having never been subjected to the elements, the undercarriage is untainted, rust-free and original.

Extensive work has been performed to make sure the car is as mechanically sound as it is beautiful. Both the original engine and gearbox have been rebuilt and less than 650 miles have been accumulated since completion. The engine work was expertly performed and included a resurfaced crank, all new bearings, new pistons, a boiled block, all new timing chains, new valves and seals, a resurfaced head, resurfaced camshafts and a new oil pump and other ancillary parts. The car also has a new clutch and throwout bearing and the brakes have been rebuilt from top to bottom with new master and wheel cylinders, new shoes and resurfaced drums. The car is mechanically fantastic, its factory original 3.4L engine firing up effortlessly, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the original Moss gearbox’s gears. Performance accompanies with excellent, even compression, excellent oil pressure, fantastic ride quality and no proclivity for overheating. The car brakes straight and true, the suspension is sound and it is a joy from behind the wheel, whether tooling through town, roaring through the canyons or bombing down the highway.

The car is accompanied by its original tool kit (extremely hard to find and prohibitively expensive today), as well as its spare wheel and changing tools, a file of records and the original Heritage Certificate confirming the originality of the engine and the original color combination.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an appreciating XK120 OTS that has everything going for it: completely original, solid and correct undercarriage, rebuilt mechanicals, gorgeous, recently restored cosmetics and (most importantly) ALL matching numbers, confirmed by both the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate and the car’s original stamps and data plate. This is an entirely pure, correct and honest car, one that needs only a new owner’s garage and the same gentle use and care bestowed upon it by it’s prior owners to be enjoyed. Please bid accordingly.

We want this car to go to great home and would be happy to further discuss it and answer any questions, so please feel free to email us or call us at 805-202-4557. You can also visit us online at GoodmanReed.

Goodman Reed Motorcars

We’ve always had an appreciation for classic European cars and over the years have created an eclectic personal collection. We only buy cars that we’d personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room for other acquisitions. That time has come for this Jaguar (if the price is right, of course – this isn’t a fire sale). We try to give accurate descriptions of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not experts, and we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional inspections. But please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms our ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their proper due diligence before bidding.

For U.S. buyers a 10% non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end. Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end. Buyer is responsible for shipping, however we’d be more that happy to help with recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end. Thanks for your interest.

Jaguar Project 7 Concept

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

The Jaguar Project 7 Concept debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed just last month. But unlike most concepts, which serve only to collect fingerprints on a stage, the track-ready one-seater spent its days barreling past the hillclimb crowds with Mike Cross, chief engineer of vehicle integrity at Jaguar, beaming behind its right-hand-drive steering wheel. What's more, the powers that be at Jaguar even let yours truly drive the Project 7 during the Concurs d'Elegance festivities at Pebble Beach last week.
Built on an all-aluminum V8 F-Type chassis with modified suspension, the Project 7 (a name acknowledging Jaguar's seven Le Mans wins between 1951-1990) is best thought of as an F-Type masquerading as a D-Type. The two-door is fitted with a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 good for 550 horsepower (no pictures as Jaguar wouldn't allow us to open the hood). An eight-speed automatic, with a torque converter, sends the power the rear wheels, allowing the single-seat roadster to crack the 60-mph benchmark in just over four seconds.
Modifications to the bodywork include a new lowered windshield, carbon-fiber aerodynamics and a rear fairing with integrated rollover hoop. The driving position has also been lowered by more than an inch, allowing the sole occupant to not only escape the airflow, but take advantage of a lower center of gravity.

Jaguar Land Rover moves closer to building Slovakia plant

Tue, Aug 11 2015

Jaguar Land Rover has announced its intention to build a new assembly plant in Slovakia. Though it has yet to make the final decision, the British automaker has signed a Letter of Intent with the Slovakian government. Its next step is to launch a feasibility study before committing. If the company does go ahead with plans, it wouldn't be the first automaker – or even the first European luxury automaker for that matter – to start producing in Slovakia. Nor would it be the first Jaguar Land Rover plant outside the UK, either. The Volkswagen Group, PSA Peugeot Citroen, and Kia all manufacture in the Central European country. VW's Bratislava plant in particular handles production of the Touareg, Audi Q7, and Porsche Cayenne. In the past few years, JLR has expanded its production capacity to new locations outside of the UK. It has a new factory in China, one under construction in Brazil, and has been manufacturing in India – home country of its parent company Tata – since 2011. It recently announced a manufacturing contract with Magna Steyr in Austria, and is investing in its facilities back home as well. Though yet to be finalized, the prospect of manufacturing in Slovakia has proven more favorable to JLR than other locations in Europe or in the United States or Mexico – all possibilities that the company says it looked into. It has yet to reveal just what it would produce there, saying only that "the plant would manufacture a range of aluminium Jaguar Land Rover vehicles," that the plant would be earmarked to come online in 2018 and eventually ramp up production to 300,000 vehicles. The prevailing wisdom would seem to indicate, however, that the site is being considered for the next-generation Land Rover Defender. Jaguar XJ facelift suggests that if it ain't broke...

Tue, Dec 16 2014

Jaguar is preparing what looks to be a very modest upgrade for its long-serving XJ, now heading into its fifth year in production. The fullsize luxury sedan's changes are so limited it seems like a stretch to even refer to these changes as a proper update. New front and rear lights represent the big changes, although the XJ's front grille looks to get a tiny bit of tweaking. Beyond that, though, we can't see too much changing for Jag's flagship luxury car. That said, there could be some tweaks below the sheetmetal and within the cabin that these images don't really show. Take a look at our gallery of spy photos, at the top of the page, and let us know what you think Jag is up to with this particular XJ.
