2013 Jaguar XF 3.0 Supercharged

Mon, 08 Jul 2013

Generally speaking, I don't get too upset about the growing need to replace displacement in modern cars. Sure, there are exceptions (don't you touch my 6.2-liter AMG V8), but honestly, the industry's new forced induction powertrains are all lovely, and their gains in fuel economy - when they actually make good on them - can make up for the ever-so-slight losses in performance or driving character.
But I'm having a hard time keeping my chin up with this Jaguar XF. For the 2013 model year, Jaguar has killed off the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 and fitted a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with an eight-speed automatic in its place (and even offers a turbocharged four-cylinder engine below that). That all sounds perfectly well and good, but a week behind the wheel of this British Racing Green sedan just left me missing that V8. And then some.

Check out Harry Metcalfe's 1978 Jaguar XJ 5.3 V12 Coupe

Fri, Feb 6 2015

Jaguar may have built its business producing luxury sedans, but it also made some superb coupes over the years, from the XK120 through the E-Type, XJS and XJ220 to today's F-Type. The automaker has largely steered clear of turning its four-door models into two-doors, but there was a time when it did exactly that. And Harry Metcalfe, former editor of the British car magazine Evo, just happens to have one in his garage. Based on the Series II XJ sedan, the XJ Coupe was long and elegant – something along the lines of what you might see today in the form of the Mercedes S-Class Coupe, but smaller and built the better part of four decades ago. With only around 10,000 of them made, the pillar-less XJ-C was much rarer than the more iconic E-Type, and even fewer of them packed the 5.3-liter fuel-injected V12 engine. That makes the former Evo editor's ride a rather scarce one indeed, and well worth checking out in his latest video clip.

2018 Jaguar F-Pace S Live Video Review | Snow day edition

Wed, Jan 31 2018

We're nearing the end of our six-month long-term test of the 2018 Jaguar F-Pace S. We've put nearly 12,000 miles on the car in just a few months, and we have plans to add a few thousand more before time runs out. It's been a cold and snowy winter, so the Jaguar's combination of heated seats, an electrically-heated windshield and all-wheel drive has made it a popular choice. It's going to be a sad day when the car goes back to Jaguar, though our new long-term 2018 Honda Ridgeline will help fill our cat-sized void. This content is hosted by a third party. As you can see by my coat and our white backdrop, the weather has only gotten worse. The cold does change things, so this gives us a good opportunity to see how well the F-Pace is holding up.
