1967 Jaguar E Type FHC 2 seat coupe. Opalecent silver grey with red leather interior. Grey headliner. Restored in 1997-2000. 8000 miles since. Engine rebuilt with new pistons, bearings, oil and water pumps, valves, guides, and springs, chains and guides and tensioner, surfaced flywheel and new diaphram clutch. Close ratio 4 speed gearbox received new bearings, synchro rings, and layshaft. Radiator got a heavy duty core replacement (Texas). Carbs were redone, fuel tank boiled out and sealed. Body shell needed one sill set (right) and the drop in pan. Trunk floor was replaced also. Original bonnet is lovely and clean in the nose area. Complete shell was repainted in correct opalecent silver grey. I changed the interior from black to red. The kit was provided by BAS. Complete brake system rebuild included new MC, rebuilt booster, Wildwood calipers on the front and steel flex hoses. The dunlop calipers are included. The original wheels just would not run straight or balance well so I replaced them with the triple laced MWS Dunlop reproductions which are much stronger and run true. Tires are Yokahama Avid tourings. I then drove the car for 8K miles over 11 years. Last year I did a refresh to upgrade the cars condition. Items replaced include: Coolcat fan, rear shocks, fuel pump, motor mounts, 8 vane water pump, front discs, expansion tank, all cooling hoses, all clamps for the hoses, polyurethane suspension bushings, engine compartment wiring harness, and the alternator wiring harness. Rebuilt items include: brake MC, booster (again), speedometer, water temp gauge, carbs (diaphrams), new clutch disc and throw out bearing ( not really needed but I had the unit out), replated all front suspension pieces and any part in the engine compartment that was originaly plated. This ran to about 350 items.
I run the car without the front bumpers because I like the look. They are included with the over-riders and the motif bar. The radio is a 3-band Blaupunkit (?) with separate power amp. Handbook is included. I have all the delivery documents that came with the car including the warranty card signed by the owner of Overseas Motors in Ft. Worth on February 17, 1967, the warranty service voucher book with the dealer stamps, the drivers handbook, lubrication chart, dealer list, and some others. Metalfacture jack, bag, and a very worn Thor hammer. The only item I don't have is the tool kit. I think the previous owner kept it even though I grilled him about it, but what can you do? The car runs great, engine is seamless, doesn't smoke, stays at 80 - 85 C, stops straight and well (for an E Type). It does drip a little oil - mostly from the engine and gearbox drain plugs when sitting. THE TERMS: Sale is final, no warranty, You would be wise to inspect this or any car you intend to purchase. A $500 deposit must be made to my Paypal account within 24 hours of the end of the auction. Balance can be wire transfer or cashiers check to my account. When my bank and I are both satisfied regarding the validity of the transfer, the car and the signed title will be released to you. Payment and pickup must be made within 7 days of the end of the auction locally. I will not deliver. The license plates and registration will be removed before transfer and are not included in the sale. I will assist in moving the car for loading at its place of storage. Jaguar to finish building six remaining Lightweight E-Types
Thu, 15 May 2014Back in February of 1963, Jaguar set about making a small run of lightweight E-Types. It recrafted the bodywork out of aluminum, shoehorned in a 3.8-liter straight-six with an aluminum block, stripped out the interior, removed the chrome trim and fitted lighter-weight side windows. The result was a 250-pound reduction in curb weight and a commensurate increase in performance, especially evident on the race track. The company originally set about building 18 examples, but only managed 12. The remaining six were allocated chassis numbers, but were never built. That is, until now.
Fifty years since the last of the original 12 lightweight E-Types were completed, Jaguar has announced that it is preparing to resume production and complete the final six examples. The company has assigned its top craftsmen to the job, who will build the half-dozen continuation Lightweights to the same exact specifications as the original dozen. Former sister-company and perennial arch-rival Aston Martin undertook a similar task (or at least authorized Zagato to do so) when it sanctioned four continuation examples of the original DB4 GT Zagato based on original chassis numbers in 1988, and another two based on original body shells and stock DB4 chassis in 1992.
Jaguar has not yet announced pricing and availability for the continuation Lightweights, but the first old-is-new example is set to debut this summer, whereupon Coventry will release further details. You can bet, though, that each one will be snapped up rather quick at just about any price the British automaker cares to put on them.
Geely poaches Jaguar designer Wayne Burgess
Tue, Feb 5 2019The fact is simple: Chinese automaker Geely just poached designer Wayne Burgess from Jaguar. Burgess will oversee a team of 100 designers and staff, in charge of projects encompassing all of Geely's brands, and report to Peter Horbury, Geely's EVP of design. Burgess, who started at Jaguar in 1997, was lately the production studio director for Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations, and the head of Jaguar's production cars. His credits include the F-Type, F-Pace, I-Pace, and current XJ, as well as being an Ian Callum stand-in at events. The implications of this personnel move carry the easy-to-ignore weight of another domino falling in what could be a monumental Chinese long game. Geely owns an eponymous car brand in China, as well the Chinese-Swedish Lynk & Co, Sweden's Volvo, England's Lotus and London Electric Vehicle Company (makers of electric black cabs), Malaysia's Proton, and U.S. flying car startup Terrafugia. Burgess won't need to leave home, because Geely's opening a design center in Coventry, England, to go along with its other centers in Barcelona, Gothenburg, Los Angeles and Shanghai. If you're keeping track, Burgess' flight maintains the quickening pace of talent headed to Chinese automakers that we give scant attention. After Geely bought Volvo in 2010, it moved longtime Volvo designer Peter Horbury, now Burgess' boss, to Shanghai. At the time, the news evoked a chortle. Compare that to last week, when GAC Motor designer David Hilton said, "There are now more auto designers in Shanghai than in any other city in the world, including Detroit and L.A." Hilton, by the way, was Bentley's head of exterior design until September last year. The same month, ex-Rolls Royce pen Giles Taylor, who brought us the Cullinan, jetted to Munich to lead FAW's Hongqi luxury brand. One month before that, ex- Land Rover designer Phil Simmons had taken over at Great Wall brand Haval. One month after that, ex- Mazda and BMW designer Kevin Rice became VP of design at Chery. Ex- Audi man Wolfgang Egger took over at BYD in 2017. Oh yeah, Hilton's comments came in a Wall Street Journal article about this very migration. Mass distribution is nearing the developed world in the Northern Hemisphere, too. Lynk & Co wants to get its papers for Europe this year. Zotye just named its first batch of U.S. dealers in advance of a planned launch here in 2020. Guangzhou Auto was at the same U.S. dealer meetings at Zotye, aiming for a U.S. rollout in early 2020.
Land Rover will downsize with a pair of hybridized turbodiesel sixes
Thu, Mar 26 2020Europe's automotive industry has ground to a halt, but the strict emissions regulations that went into effect in early 2020 are still looming on the horizon. Land Rover is preparing to launch a pair of hybridized turbodiesel six-cylinder engines in a bid to comply with the regulations and avoid paying huge fines, according to a recent report. British magazine Autocar learned Land Rover has applied the mild hybrid technology already offered on the Evoque and the Discovery Sport, its two smallest models, to a 3.0-liter straight-six to obtain 300 horsepower. The company will also release a more powerful version of the six rated at about 350 horses. The former will be available on HSE, HSE Dynamic and Autobiography Dynamic variants of the Range Rover Sport, while the latter will be added to upmarket models like the HST. The full-size Range Rover (pictured) will get them, too. The sixes represent a two-pronged approach to replacing the 4.4-liter turbodiesel V8 available in Europe, among other markets. It delivers 335 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque, and it sends the Range Rover from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds while giving it a 7,700-pound towing capacity. These figures are hard to argue against, but it's an older engine that's increasing the company's fleet-wide average emissions output, so it has to go. The mild hybrid system won't power either Range Rover on electricity alone, but it will make them cleaner and more efficient; losing a pair of cylinders will help in both areas, too. Although Land Rover hasn't confirmed plans to ax the V8 or launch a hybridized six, suppliers have started publishing information about the powertrain, so its launch is believed to be around the corner. Time will tell whether it will appear on the current-generation models or their replacements, which are undergoing shakedown testing globally and due out in the coming months. Sister company Jaguar will use the mild hybrid technology, too. The six-cylinder will find its way into the XF and the F-Pace, which are both expected to receive comprehensive updates before the end of 2020. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party.
