Item For Sale: 1999 Isuzu Amigo 2 door SUV with 4-wheel drive and removable soft top! These Amigos are rare and hard to find, especially in good running condition.

Options and Accessories: Fuel Injected V6, 5 Speed manual transmission, power steering, brakes, mirrors, locks and windows, pop-up sunroof, soft top, alloy wheels, AM-FM cassette and CD stereo, air conditioning, factory tachometer, push button 4X4 with high-low range floor lever, rear spare tire carrier, taillight guards, rear step bumper, Jet black with gray interior, front bucket seats, rear bench seat, deluxe cloth, etc...COOL LITTLE SUV!

Interior Condition: Minor wear/ stains typical of age and use but all in all great condition. Clean, comfortable seats. Prior owner was a smoker, but no noticeable major stains or burns.

Body Condition: Excellent, solid, straight and clean original body. Has minor blistering at bottom of rear rocker panels just in front of rear tires but no hols and is just starting to bubble. One spot on the rear door where the metal has been slightly pushed out. On the front driver side, the quarter panel is pushed slightly in on the front edge (see picture). Other than that, the body is very nice and has straight doors, quarters, fenders, , bumpers, etc.

Paint Condition: Nice, decent, still pretty shiny overall and appears to be original. Minor scratch or chip here or there but really looks great overall and is very nice.

Tire Condition: Almost new, with still about 85% tread on them. Everything is balanced, and tires have been rotated at regular intervals. No shakes or wobbles here!

Running/Driving Condition: Starts excellent and runs great. Revs up strong with no hesitations. Transmission shifts through all gears very smoothly, and clutch grabs well. 4X4 engages as it should, and works great.

When I first bought the Amigo, I only drove it 140 miles before the original motor threw a rod. I replaced the motor with one from an Isuzu Trooper that had 95K at the time. When the engine was installed, I had my mechanic check the clutch and put a new timing belt on as well. This is one of the best starting engines I've ever seen, and will be a great runner for years to come. Also included with sale is the original engine, to be used at your discretion. Also this model Amigo does not have cruise control, but I have almost all of the parts to get that installed, and shouldn't be a problem, these are all included with sale. Since I've had it, I have installed a good running engine, new Rain X Latitude wipers, 4 new shocks all around, and timing belt. As with all Isuzus with the 3.2 motor, this one does burn oil; about a quart every 800 miles or so. It's easy to stay on top of though, just a quick check when you fill up with gas. Overall, this is an excellent little SUV for going around in style in the Summer with the top down. It gets good mileage (17-19) and is pretty peppy too with plenty of passing power. A hard top and hitch can be added too, parts are readily available. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, or to come take a test drive before you buy. You won't be disappointed!

GM, Isuzu shacking up on global midsize pickup development

Sat, Oct 4 2014

General Motors and Isuzu might not be financial partners anymore, but it would seem that all those years working together still leaves a strong bond between them to work on new vehicles. Their latest collaboration is co-developing a next-generation midsize pickup to launch at a still-unannounced point in the future. Potential buyers of the upcoming Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon have no reason to fear their purchase becoming obsolete, though, because there are no plans to sell these jointly created models in North America. As part of the deal, GM and Isuzu have already agreed to share components across the trucks and purchase the parts together to get a better deal, according to Reuters. However, the actual manufacturing was agreed to be kept separate. The first inklings of this deal cropped up a year ago when the two automakers signed a memorandum of understanding to co-develop a new pickup. The future GM and Isuzu models are joining the mini-boom of midsize trucks that is about to hit around the world. Nissan already announced its latest Navara, and Toyota was spotted testing replacements for both the Hilux and Tacoma. Plus, Honda has hinted at a new Ridgeline sometime fairly soon in the US. Wienermobile gets burned by hotdogging catalytic converter thieves

Tue, Feb 14 2023

Catalytic converter theft has been on the rise, but few could have predicted its latest victim. Turns out, not even the Wienermobile is immune to the emissions device bandits. Low-lifes purloined the exhaust cleaner off of Oscar Mayer's 27-foot-long wheeled hot dog as the vehicle made an overnight stop in Las Vegas. As Fox 5 Las Vegas reports, the thieves made off with the catalytic converter in front of the Sonesta Suites motel in Sin City. The Wienermobile, one of six such vehicles circulating across the country, had been scheduled to make an appearance at a shopping center in town on Friday, but was forced to make a pit stop at a local Penske trucks shop for repairs.  According to Road & Track the Wienermobile is built on an Isuzu NPR HD chassis, so it makes sense that a truck shop would be able to service it. Unfortunately, vehicles with a lot of ground clearance like SUVs and pickups are often the targets of catalytic converter pirates, as the parts are more easily accessed from beneath.  In 2019, reported thefts of catalytic converters nationwide totaled only 3,389, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. The number of reports climbed to 14,433 in 2020. In 2021, that swelled to 65,398, a 353% increase over the previous year. The rate continued apace in 2022, with State Farm alone reporting 44,500 thefts from their customers through June of that year. The emissions-scrubbing devices contain valuable metals such as platinum, palladium and rhodium. The National Insurance Crime Bureau says those metals are valued at $1,128, $2,938 and $20,000 per ounce, respectively, as of March 2022. Last year, California passed new legislation to make it harder to sell stolen catalytic converters, while the Department of Justice busted a ring of catalytic converter thieves with assets totaling $550 million. Joseph Rodriguez, a Penske maintenance coordinator, told Fox 5 that the repair was only temporary, as they did not have the correct part to install. However, it was enough to send the Wienermobile on its merry way.  Cars such as the Toyota Prius, Honda Accord, and Ford F-150 routinely top lists of cars targeted by catalytic converter thieves. That's partially due to the fact that those are common cars sold in large number, but the lesson here is that no vehicle is safe. If scofflaws are brazen enough to steal from a bright yellow truck shaped like a frankfurter, nothing is safe. Humor Weird Car News Isuzu catalytic converter wienermobile

Future Classic | 1990-1993 Geo Storm and Isuzu Impulse

Sat, Jul 23 2022

You don't see a lot of Geo-branded cars on the road these days, despite the fact that the General Motors' captive-import brand was actually pretty successful for around a decade. Perhaps the most recognizable vehicle to roll into Geo showrooms was the Prizm, which basically amounted to a rebadged Toyota Corolla built in California (which means General Motors was competing against its own Chevy Cavalier in the compact sedan market). And then there were the Geo Metro sub-compact, known for years as the most fuel-efficient vehicle you could buy in the United States, and the spunky Geo Tracker SUV that carried on for several years wearing Chevrolet badges after Geo's demise. Those are all interesting vehicles, but for this article we're going to focus in on the sporty Storm model. Like the other Geo vehicles, the Storm was sort of a joint venture, in this case with Isuzu, the Japanese automaker best known for making SUVs and big commercial trucks. Back in the day, though, Isuzu had some legitimately intriguing little cars in its showrooms. The Storm was based heavily on the second-generation Isuzu Impulse (known as the Piazza in other markets). And, well, you see even fewer Isuzus on the road these days than Geos. MotorWeek | Retro Review: '90 Geo Storm GSi Why are the Geo Storm and Isuzu Impulse future classics? They may never actually be "classics" in the same way a Ford Mustang or Chevy Camaro may be, but they are still interesting cars. And for potential buyers of a certain age, memories of gawking at sleek-looking Geo Storms everywhere you looked mean the nostalgia factor is high. If nothing else, we're pretty sure a nicely kept Storm or Impulse would draw a certain crowd at a local car show. While the Storm was way more popular with American buyers in the 1990s, the rarity of the Impulse means it's probably the more desirable option if future collectibility is a factor. What is the ideal example of the Geo Storm or Isuzu Impulse? The most valuable version of the duo is surely the rare Isuzu Impulse RS (the silver car above) with all-wheel drive and a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that spun out 160 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. According to reports, only about 600 of these machines were sold in the States — complete with "Handling by Lotus" badging (General Motors held sizable stakes in both brands at the time) — which means they aren't very easy to find for sale.
