One Of Only 2,699 Y82 SE T/A's Built In 1977
With The W72/4-Speed Combo Assembled
at GM's famous Norwood, Ohio manufacturing facility in 1977, this pristine
Trans Am coupe was delivered to Pontiac City Inc in Spokane, Washington. The car's already solid restoration was
freshened to better-than-new condition. This car underwent a full nut &
bolt restoration that was just recently completed in 2014. This spectacular F2
displays a killer coat of correct Starlight Black urethane under Special
Edition-exclusive full outlining stripes and an iconic Special
Edition-exclusive Screamin' Chicken hood decal. At the front of this 'bird, straight and glossy
urethane hangs Special Edition headlight buckets and a small
"PONTIAC" script between a correct "TRANS AM" call-out and
traditional red arrowhead. Behind that urethane, a great looking
"T/A-6.6" branded hood anchors like-new glass beneath painted
stainless trim and exclusive Hurst T-tops. At the sides of that hood, correct
"TRANS AM" call-outs and Special Edition B-pillar birds complement
traditional fender vents, black-accented door handles and correct wheel
spoilers. And at the back of the car, a rounded D80 trunk wing aligns a correct
"TRANS AM" call-out above factory-fresh tail lights, a small
"PONTIAC" script and original side splitter exhaust tips. Pop this tin hood and you'll find a stout, 400
cubic inch Pontiac V8 that forms a correct casting number behind a matching 148931
partial VIN. This 'bird's "XA" branded L78 combined the largest
muscle car engine you could buy with Pontiac's proven "6X" head
design and newfound handling prowess to create one of the fastest pony cars on
the market. At the top of the smooth mill, a big factory correct Rochester
carburetor under a familiar Trans Am shaker. Below those components, warm GM
Corporate Blue paint coats the entire block, while correct cast iron manifolds
funnel spent gases into factory-fresh dual stainless exhaust pipes and a
complete adjustable valve train. The
car's authentic engine bay and hood are covered in a nice combination of GM
Satin and Pontiac Starlight Black. And, as expected, there's pliable belts,
clean hoses and a strong battery. At the bottom of this Trans Am, a clean
undercarriage is comprised of straight floorpans that display thick
undercoating, and a satin black chassis that retains a showroom-fresh luster.
In the middle of that undercarriage, an original Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed,
which wears a correct 148931 partial VIN, sends power to a posi-traction
differential and mild, 2.41 gears. Below that stellar powertrain, a rebuilt WS4
suspension, which includes power steering, subframe connectors, better shocks
and stiffer springs, combines with standard issue power front disc and rear
drum brakes to provide quick stops and great handling. At the center of that
suspension, a dual stainless X-pipe exhaust system barks a deep, vintage roar
through stainless tail pipes. At the corners of that exhaust, restored snow
flakes spin gold, Special Edition paint between 'gold bird' center caps and
modern 225/70 BF Goodrich Radial T/As. And all the car's hardware and bushings,
from its leak-free fuel tank to its correctly installed emergency brake cable,
appear to be lucid and in good shape. Open this Pontiac's massive black doors and
you'll find custom vinyl bucket & rear seats interior that wraps gold,
Special Edition trim in a whole lot of old school style! The airy cockpit
begins with thick seats that are firm, crisp and look every bit as nice as
their rich name implies. Below those seats, like-new carpet, which is protected
by thick rubber floor mats, centers a molded console on chrome power window
switches. At the sides of that carpet, hard to find door panels and correct
gold emblems, bright chrome handles. Above those panels, a stain-free headliner
stretches tightly around the car's aforementioned factory Hurst T-tops. In
front of the driver, an optional tilt steering column spins a gold Formula
steering wheel around a gold, engine-turned instrument panel, sliders for the
car's air conditioning and a factory correct radio. And behind the passengers
seats a fully restored trunk with the original spare tire. Professionally restored from its factory Hurst
T-tops all the way to its slick gold snowflakes, this documented Trans Am is an
impressive, numbers-matching investment that's perfect for any Bandit
enthusiast! On Aug-25-14 at 07:19:49 PDT, seller added the following information: VIN: 2W87Z7N148931 2: Pontiac Motor Division

Infiniti Q50S getting G37's hydraulic steering for 2016
Sun, 31 Aug 2014Sometimes, new technology doesn't make things better. Take the march of power steering technology as an example. Electrically assisted systems are in vogue at the moment for their ability to increase fuel efficiency, but tuning them to offer good feedback remains something of a dark art. Some automakers get it, but most don't. The previous hydraulically assisted setups just seem to be inherently more communicative when driven with enthusiasm. And it looks like Infiniti might be learning this lesson the hard way.
In talking with Keith St. Clair, the luxury brand's head of product planning, Car and Driver has learned that the Q50S is probably going to ditch its standard electrically assisted steering in favor of a hydraulic system derived from the old G37, a model soon to be renamed the Q40. The system should make the sedan more engaging behind the wheel, but it still won't help those who tick the option box for Infiniti's controversial Direct Adaptive Steering drive-by-wire system.
According to St. Clair, Infiniti's engineers have heard the complaints of critics and previous G37 owners about the Q50S model's electric steering system, and wanted to see what they could do. They didn't have to go far to figure it out - all it required was taking the steering rack off of a G37 and putting it onto the Q50S. After a little tweaking, "the car is a blast to drive," St. Clair reports. Now, the company is said to be fast-tracking the switch, and it could be ready for the 2016 model year.
Infiniti SUV recall marks latest chapter in Takata airbag saga
Fri, 31 Oct 2014Automotive parts maker Takata is having a rough year with millions of vehicles equipped with its airbag inflators being recalled. However, it looks like there might still be problems with the company's quality control, if a new recall by Infiniti is any indication.
The Japanese luxury brand is recalling 1,912 total units of the 2013 Infiniti QX56 and 2014 QX80 in North America because of a manufacturing flaw with their Takata-supplied inflators for the driver's side front airbag. Of those, 1,848 are in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Specifically, the outer baffle could be the wrong component and cause too much pressure to build up inside. According to documents submitted to NHTSA, it's possible in a crash for the part to rupture spraying metal shrapnel at occupants. At this time, Infiniti has not had any reports of this actually happening to drivers.
While this problem sounds nearly identical to the issue affecting millions of earlier vehicles, it must be noted that this is a different fault. According to the notice being sent to dealers on NHTSA's website: "This particular Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign is unrelated to two earlier campaigns that involved Takata passenger front air bag inflators on some older model Infiniti vehicles. This issue involves a much newer inflator and is a different, more isolated, Takata quality control issue."
Infiniti keeps us on our toes for Q50 Eau Rouge
Tue, 24 Dec 2013If you've been watching the evolving rapprochement between Infiniti and Red Bull Racing, and have wondered what the point was if the Japanese automaker didn't capitalize on its expensive collaboration with the world-champion Formula One team, then Infiniti may finally have the answer come the Detroit Auto Show next month.
That's where Nissan's premium division is set to unveil the Q50 Eau Rouge concept, a show car set to showcase its F1 involvement in the form of a jazzed-up sports sedan. We still don't have much to go on in terms of what the concept car will actually entail beyond a body kit, but Infiniti has launched a dedicated website for the reveal and with it, this teaser video. It still doesn't tell us much, but it's a cool animation just the same, so check it out below.
