Infiniti JX35 QX60 Hybrid confirmed for New York debut

The next Q-ified Infiniti will be making its debut at the New York Auto Show later this month, the QX60 - the crossover formerly known as JX35. And while there aren't many changes to the crossover in terms of design or function, the big news is that Infiniti will be revealing a production hybrid powertrain option for its seven-passenger luxury/utility vehicle.
The QX60 Hybrid uses the same powetrain found in Infiniti's M35h gasoline-electric sedan, which couples a 2.5-liter supercharged four-cylinder engine with a 15-kilowatt electric motor, running to the wheels via continuously variable transmission. Both front- and all-wheel-drive versions of the QX60 Hybrid will be available, and Infiniti says that the more efficient CUV should be good for around 26 miles per gallon combined - an improvement of five mpg over the current JX35 with its 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6. And because the compact lithium-ion battery will be housed underneath the third row seat, we're told that the hybrid model will still have the same passenger and cargo capacity of the non-hybrid crossover.
This will be the first three-row hybrid CUV offered in the US market, and wrapping it up in a luxury package makes a lot of sense to us, since it could be a good way of cajoling customers into absorbing the extra cost of the more expensive powertrain. (Keyword in that sentence: CUV. After all, the Cadillac Escalade is still currently available as a two-mode hybrid for the 2013 model year.) Infiniti has not released official pricing figures, but says that the hybrid model will represent a roughly $3,000 premium over the standard QX60.

2022 Infiniti QX80 gets an interior update with new, big touchscreen

The 2022 Infiniti QX80 is getting a light interior update in the form of a new touchscreen infotainment system and center stack. If you’ve seen the 2021 Nissan ArmadaÂ’s refreshed interior, then youÂ’ve seen the new QX80Â’s, because they share the same center stack and touchscreen now. This new infotainment system runs on a 12.3-inch high-res screen that sits perched at the top. ItÂ’s capable of wireless Apple CarPlay, but only wired Android Auto. Infiniti says navigation comes standard, too. We liked the new touchscreen in the Armada far more than its outgoing unit, which was ancient technology by the time it was replaced. This new screen is vibrant, features much quicker responses to inputs and is all around a massive step up in tech. YouÂ’ll see the new QX80 also has all the updated controls below the touchscreen, too. We get new dials and buttons (far fewer than before) for the radio and climate controls. Plus, the new layout necessitated a new air vent design. Say goodbye to the dual-screen layout, too, as thereÂ’s no second touchscreen in the lower part of the stack — thatÂ’s a very good thing. Taking up some of that space is a new storage cubby that can be hidden via a piece of wood trim. Flip it open, and youÂ’ll reveal a wireless phone charger and access to a 12-volt outlet.  Besides this interior change, the rest of the 2022 QX80 is carryover. It looks the same from the exterior, and itÂ’s still rocking the 5.6-liter V8 that makes 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. Neither pricing nor availability for the updated QX80 were made available today, but donÂ’t expect it to be too much more than the $70,545 base price it enjoys now. Recharge Wrap-up: Infiniti PHEV, free biodiesel?

In certain cases, biodiesel is so inexpensive that it is essentially free to use. Thanks to the decline of crude oil prices, other fuels, including biodiesel, have been following the trend. After setting new renewable fuel mandates, Congress also reinstated a $1-per-gallon tax credit for refiners. With such low prices, Midwest refiners are paying as low as $0.645 per gallon. In California, however, additional incentives mean some customers could get money back on the biodiesel they use, depending on the deals between producers and blenders and whether or not they share the credits. Infiniti CEO Roland Krueger says that it will leverage the EV expertise from Nissan for the electrification of its cars. Don't hold out for a luxury version of the Leaf wearing an Infiniti badge, though. When asked if an all-electric Infiniti were out of the questions, Krueger says, "Performance and the range are very important in the premium segment, so we believe that for Infiniti a hybrid or plug-in hybrid is the right proposition at this time."
