Hyundai announced base price for the 2017 Elantra Eco. $21,485 (including destination fee) gets you a sedan with a 1.4-liter turbo swapped in place of the Elanta's standard 1.8-liter or optional 2.0-liter four cylinder engines. EPA fuel economy figures of 40 highway, 32 city, 35 combined represent increases of 2, 4, and 3 over the 1.8-liter Elantra. The Elantra Eco gets mixed scores compared to the competition but the figures are misleading. The Hyundai's numbers reflect the updated 2017 fuel economy numbers, which are generally lower than 2016. Starting next year, automakers will change the way they adjust test figures to come up with the window sticker numbers. Comparing 2017 Elantra Eco apples to the 2016 competition's oranges, the Elantra is close to even. The Honda Civic (both turbo and naturally aspirated engines), Chevrolet Cruze, and Toyota Corolla Eco rate the same 35 combined mpg. The Hyundai's city number is one to two better than the field, but the highway figure is the same difference behind. In terms of pricing, the Elantra Eco costs around $1000 to $1500 more than base grade versions from the competition, but comes with a decent level of standard features. Keyless entry and ignition, blind-spot warning with cross traffic alert, dual-zone climate control, and heated seats are all included in the base price. Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo concept coming to Frankfurt

Hyundai will be using the Frankfurt Motor Show to tout its N Performance sub-brand and the future possibilities it could create. A purely conceptual extrapolation comes via the N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo, which joins the expanding list of carmaker-created superfast racers for Sony's Playstation game. The company's 2016 World Rally Championship entrant will grace the stand, previewing the car Hyundai will use to try to dethrone Volkswagen. It is a completely new racecar based on the next-generation five-door i20, still undergoing testing now but planned for competition at the 2016 Monte Carlo Rally. The RM15 concept shown at the Seoul Motor Show will be the third demonstration of Hyundai's enthusiast intentions. The carmaker says the mid-engined, Veloster-based coupe is about "suggesting how N driver-focused technologies could come into production," but we imagine that won't mean installing a 296-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbo-four where the rear seats are. All three cars are intended to rework perceptions of the South Korean company, which is working to "create striking and pioneering high performance cars" and make "real and emotional connections with customers." Hyundai sets land speed record with fuel-cell Tuscon

The Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell certainly isn't a hydrogen-powered speed demon like the Buckeye Bullet, but the South Korean company's H2-fueled crossover is fast enough to hold its own land speed record. How many SUVs can claim that? Not too many, but that's because there simply aren't many hydrogen-powered vehicles around, let alone SUVs. Hyundai recently took a 2016 Tucson Fuel Cell to the Soggy Dry Lake Bed in California, and the efficient model claimed a new land speed record for a production hydrogen-powered SUV. Set to the always stirring Ride of the Valkyries, the automaker's video shows the Tucson whispering through the desert while leaving only a cloud of dust and drips of water behind. Rather than spoiling it, you need to watch the clip to find out just how fast the fuel cell-powered Tuscon can go. The Tucson uses its fuel cell stack to power to spin the front wheels with an electric motor that makes 134 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. They are currently available to lease in Southern California, and the company delivered about 70 of them in the first year.
