2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Sedan 4-door 2.4l on 2040-cars
Santa Ana, California, United States
I am the second owner of this well-maintained Hyundai Sonata Hybrid which is rated up to 39mpg for combined city and highway driving (actual mileage about 31-32 overall). It is almost impossible to find a hybrid model in black onxy pearl. This vehicle has the eye-catching panoramic sunroof, navigation, heated seats, keyless entry, Bluetooth, Blue Drive, pushbutton start, Tiptronic shifting, power driver's seat, satellite radio, backup camera, etc. I am not aware of any option which it does not have. It is fully loaded.
While this car was sold to me as a salvage with under 7K miles on it, I did my research before buying it, including contacting the former owner. He was shocked that they salvaged the car since there was minor front end damage (no frame damage) although there was air bag deployment. Apparently, an expensive front radiator and the cost of the replacement airbags was the reason for the salvage. The car was repaired by a reputable body shop in Las Vegas specializing in repair of hybrid vehicles. I bought it from them. (I spent months looking for a black onxy pearl Sonata Hybrid). It passed dealer inspection just fine and I have always had it serviced by the dealer. There has been no issues relating to the salvage. There is no pulling or uneven tire wear has been uniform. This vehicle is quiet inside and drives like a luxury sedan should. The car is in excellent mechanical condition and very good cosmetically, with only a few scuffs and dings. All maintenance is current. Tires are about 50%. The hybrid battery is running strong (this battery is so reliable and long-lasting that Hyundai started giving lifetime warranties with this same vehicle on the next model year). I am still driving this car several times a week so the miles may go up a bit. If you are looking for a reliable, luxury hybrid that is comfortable, stylish and economical, this is the car that you want. |

2014 Hyundai Elantra gets new 2.0L engine, Sport model, tweaked styling
Wed, 20 Nov 2013Most of the attention at Hyundai has recently been focused on the next-gen Sonata and Genesis, but before we see either of those sedans, the automaker is giving its small car lineup a significant overhaul.
Just last week, Hyundai unveiled the refreshed 2014 Accent, and today at the LA Auto Show it's take the covers off of its updated 2014 Elantra. All three Elantra models - sedan, coupe and GT - will receive the same changes, but Hyundai has only released pictures for two of the sedan models: Limited (above) and Sport (inset).
The biggest news is that a new, more powerful 2.0-liter, direct-injected inline four-cylinder is now the standard engine in the GT and Coupe, as well as the Elantra sedan's all-new Sport trim level. This engine produces 173 horsepower and 154 pound-feet of torque, and while the 2014 Elantra GT can still be equipped with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, the 2014 Elantra Coupe drops the option for a manual transmission; it also appears that the Elantra Sport sedan will come solely with the automatic. With the larger engine, fuel economy numbers do drop a little: all models powered by this engine receive EPA estimated ratings of 24 miles per gallon in the city. Highway estimates for this engine include 33 mpg for the GT with automatic, 34 mpg for the GT with manual and Coupe, and 35 for the Sport sedan. Sedan buyers looking for better fuel economy still have the carry over 1.8-liter engine with 145 hp, 130 lb-ft and EPA ratings of 28 mpg city/38 mpg highway.
Hyundai app lets you build your own zombie apocalypse car
Sun, 04 Aug 2013Walking Dead fans, rejoice! Thanks to Hyundai, you can build your very own virtual zombie survival machine. We've all seen the light-green Hyundai Tucson transporting the likes of Rick Grimes and his motley crew of survivors in AMC's hit series, and now you can get in on the action with Hyundai's Walking Dead Chop Shop.
Available both as a mobile app and desktop version, this quirky configurator presents you with a choice of three Hyundai vehicles: the Veloster Turbo, Santa Fe and Elantra. Each one has its strengths, though we particularly like the Santa Fe's utility. After all, according to Hyundai, "There's room for seven survivors inside" and you won't have to worry about "getting zombie all over your seats. They're easy to wipe clean." But for those who prefer not to invite zombies along for the journey, the speedy Veloster Turbo and its 201-horsepower engine may be the way to go.
Once you select your post-apocalyptic ride, you have a choice of colors (including Apocalypse Black, of course), decals ("Alive Inside" is a useful one) and nearly 300 other zombie-fighting features. We're partial to the automatic shotguns on the hood, although the flamethrower is also quite tempting. You can even add titanium or aluminum armor and a dizzying array of other defensive and offensive weapons: spinning saw blades on the wheels, a horde plow on the front bumper and barbed wire on the side windows, just to name a few.
Hyundai's Genesis luxury brand not going to Europe this decade
Fri, Jun 10 2016After dipping into the premium market with the Genesis and Equus sedans, Hyundai made headlines with the planned launch of a separate premium brand, Genesis. It starts with the renamed G80 (nee Genesis) and redesigned G90 (Equus) sedans here in the US, but European consumers will have to wait. "To launch a premium brand in Europe is a challenge and it's an even bigger challenge if you don't have the products you need for the market," Hyundai Europe Chief Operating Officer Thomas Schmid told Automotive News Europe. "Europe won't see it before 2019. The main reason is we need different powertrains." Powertrains aren't the brand's only shortcoming. With the G70 – a 3 Series competitor – coming as the third showroom product, the brand also won't have a competitor in the increasingly important crossover ranks. As Schmid told ANE, "we don't yet see the right moment to do it because at the end, we want to be successful, and successful also means profitable." Initially, Genesis will launch in North America, the Middle East, China, and South Korea. Pushing back the European launch to 2019 or 2020 should give Genesis some breathing room, ANE reports. By that point, the company will offer six different vehicles, including two CUVs. According to Schmid, the brand would launch in Europe with just five vehicles. At halfway through 2016 and nothing but the G70 on the radar, expect an aggressive product launch schedule in the coming years if Genesis is going to stick to that timeline.
