Base model Genesis Coupe.  Mechanically sound.  Engine runs flawlessly and has excellent power for a little four-cylinder.  0-60 in about six seconds with a great sound to boot.  Regular oil changes, the most recent just a few days ago.  Brakes and tires show very little wear and, as my mechanic mentioned, they could pass for new.  Low-profile stock tires offer excellent grip and the chassis is straight as an arrow.  This car corners like nothing else in this price range.  Electronic systems are all in good working order.  No blown-out speakers or burnt-out lights and no warning lights on the dash.  Interior is close to flawless, no tears or damage.  Factory floormats always protected and are in pristine condition.  The body, likewise, is in excellent condition with no panel gaps or rust to be found anywhere.  The paint is Hyundai's limited edition 'Bathurst Black' and, in the sun, it has a tasteful understated glitter to it.  Though the car has never suffered even a minor impact, there is, unfortunately, one very small dent and some cosmetic damage on the driver's door from another careless driver in a parking lot.  In short, the car is accident-free, smoke-free, pet-free, and if not for that dent, it would pass for a showroom model.

Features include a stock stereo with AM, FM, and XM channels (subscription not provided for the latter).  Also has a CD player, iPod connectivity (cable included), MP3 auxiliary connectivity (third-party cable included), and the capability of reading music files off of a USB flash drive.  Sound quality is, admittedly, about average.  The car further has Bluetooth phone tethering capability with built-in microphone for hands-free calling.  As mentioned above, factory floormats are included and have been kept completely dirt-free.  Otherwise, though not exactly a feature, it is worth noting that it is possible to turn off the traction control with the simple press of a large convenient button.

The car was purchased from Murdock Hyundai in Murray, Utah in November of 2011 and I am the first and only owner.  It has never left the state and was largely kept off the roads during the snowstorms that plagued us up here in the north this winter.  I use it, by and large, as my daily driver.  Thus, this particular car itself does not have a notably exciting history, but as for the model line in general, a Genesis, competing at the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb event in both 2009 and 2011, set a new record time for 2WD production cars in both years.

On the subject of using it as a daily driver, I would like to point out that, for a little two-door sports coupe, the Genesis is surprisingly practical.  A spacious trunk, back seats which could easily seat a pair of children, and a ride which is firm but exceedingly comfortable for extended periods of time.  The 2.0T engine, in addition to the power, can be quite efficient.  Personally, I have managed to get the onboard readout to go up to 42mpg, much higher than the advertised highway efficiency of 30mpg. Though to be fair, I was only doing 40mph in sixth gear at the time.

Now with regards to payment, Escrow.com is probably the safest option for both parties, though I am open to other suggestions.  Buyer is responsible for shipping.

Questions and comments may be directed to me via e-mail.  Thank you for looking.

Hyundai i30 N getting 'fastback' variant

Mon, Mar 5 2018

Overseas, the Hyundai i30, known as the Elantra GT here in America, has three total bodystyles. The first of course is the hatchback that we have here, and the other two include a wagon and a "fastback." The latter is basically a sedan with a liftback. It's also apparently the next Hyundai to get the N treatment based on these spy photos. There's no question this i30 fastback is an N. It has huge wheels and bright red brake calipers. The side skirts and rear bumper are more aggressive. And, like the normal hatchback and the Veloster N, it has a triangular rear light. But, unlike those two cars, this triangular light appears to be a rear fog light instead of a center high-mount brake light. This i30 N fastback also has the wide-set dual exhaust outlets of existing Hyundai N models. One major deviation we see on this fastback is the lack of a large rear wing. Both the i30 N hatchback and the Veloster N have large wings at the trailing edge of their respective roofs that just barely walk the line between classy and garish. The fastback seems to lack any wing at all, opting instead for just the little lip of the trunk lid found on the standard fastback. It could be that there's a bigger lip spoiler hidden under this prototype's wrappings, but that's still not a wing. Whenever the fastback does arrive, perhaps within a year, it will likely have the same two engine options available on the i30 N hatchback: a base version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 247 horsepower and a hotter iteration making 271 horsepower. The latter of these is the only available engine in the American Veloster N. And it's safe to say we won't be seeing the i30 N fastback in America. Hyundai has already made it clear that the i30 N hatch isn't coming to the U.S., despite the fact we get the normal i30 hatch. Since there's no Americanized i30 fastback, there's effectively no chance Hyundai would try to certify the body style solely for a niche model like the N. Hyundai admits 'error' in KDM Sonata fuel economy announcement

Mon, Mar 17 2014

Stop us if you've heard this one before: Hyundai is going to have to reduce the officially announced miles-per-gallon number for its 2014 Sonata. While there's a lot of similarity between this new situation and events that transpired in 2012, there are some important differences. For one, the new mileage mistake, which Hyundai says was once again caused by an error at its test centers, is only applicable to cars in the Korean Domestic Market. Secondly, it's not so much mpg as kilometers per liter. "We are very sorry for causing confusion to reporters" - Hyundai According to Reuters, the numbers for the Korean Sonata were originally announced as 12.6 kilometers per liter (29.63 mpg), a six-percent increase over the previous model. The automaker has just announced that government verification showed an actual result of 12.1 kpl (28.46 mpg), which is only a two-percent increase. Since these numbers were done using the South Korean economy test, they are not equivalent to the US EPA numbers, the latter of which say the 2014 Sonata gets 36/40/38 miles per gallon. The correction came before the new Sonata went on sale in South Korea. In an official statement, Hyundai said, "We are very sorry for causing confusion to reporters." Hyundai Motor America's Jim Trainor, product public relations senior group manager, assured AutoblogGreen that the Korean error will have "no effect" on US ratings. In 2012, Hyundai and Kia faced a media and consumer firestorm after being caught up in exaggerated mileage claims for vehicles like its 2013 Accent, Veloster and Elantra. The sister companies agreed to compensate buyers to the tune of $395 million for what they said were "honest mistakes" and "human error" during in-house fuel economy tests. There is no word yet on whether similar customer satisfaction actions will follow this domestic market snafu.

2017 Hyundai Ioniq takes three-pronged approach to electrification

Wed, Mar 2 2016

The Geneva Motor Show may be dominated by super/hypercars, but there is some more sensible metal on display. And one of the most reasonable cars might be the trifecta of Hyundai Ioniq models. This three-prong approach to electrification is a very aggressive move for Hyundai. A hybrid wouldn't be a big deal. Nor would a plug-in-electric model. But launching both of those vehicles alongside a pure EV is a very bold decision. In fact, if the full Ioniq range were to launch in the United States – which still isn't a certainty – Hyundai would be one of the only brands to offer all three branches of electrification in the same showroom. The hybrid model outguns the 121-system-horsepower Toyota Prius. Thanks to its 1.6-liter Kappa four-cylinder, 43-hp electric motor, and 1.56-kWh battery pack, there's a total of 139 hp and up to 195 pound-feet of torque. The plug-in model makes some changes to that formula, significantly increasing the size of the battery pack to a larger 8.9 kWh and increasing the power of the electric motor to an even 60 hp. Hyundai hasn't said if system output has been changed, but we do know the PHV will cover 31 miles on pure electricity. View 14 Photos As we covered in our original post, the EV Ioniq is something of an unknown quantity. Hyundai's lips loosened slightly in Geneva, though, revealing that the electric motor will produce up to 218 lb-ft of torque. That's in addition to 118 horsepower and an estimated range of 155 miles. And not that EV drivers are known speed demons, but Hyundai claims its newest EV will hit 103 miles per hour. This estimated range and torque output best America's two most notable EVs, the Ford Focus Electric and Nissan Leaf, although it's fair to point out that this duo is relatively long in the tooth. While it seems plausible that Hyundai will at least offer part of the Ioniq range in America, at this point it's just too early to be certain of anything.
