Honda rolls out new N-Box Slash kei car in Japan
Tue, Dec 2 2014Honda may not compete with the likes of the expanding Fiat 500 and contracting Mini families in the North American or European markets, but back home in Japan it has a whole series of retro hatchbacks, grouped together as part of its N series. And now there is one more. Called the N-Box Slash (or N/ for short), the boxy but stylish new hatch is built to fit into Japan's rigid Kei car class, which means a tiny footprint no longer than 11 feet long and five feet wide. That makes it even smaller than the already-diminutive Smart Forfour or Renault Twingo, but into that compact form, Honda has fit five doors and four seats under a tall roof. In fact those front seats even fold flat and flush with the rear ones to make for as big a bed as you could possibly fit inside its compact dimensions. Technical details remain scarce, but power likely comes from the same 600cc three-cylinder engine - turbocharged or not, driving the front wheels or all four - as the rest of the N series, which already includes the N-One, N-Box, N-Box+ and N-WGN. Feel free to read the original Japanese or Google-translated press releases below, just don't expect it or any of its stablemates to show up in a North American showroom any time soon. 2014.11.27 ???????N-BOX SLASH(?????? ?????)????????????? Carjacking attempt foiled by pesky manual transmission
Thu, Oct 20 2016A St. Louis man lucked out last week when a pair of carjackers abandoned his Nissan Altima because it had a manual transmission. According to KMOV, Dustin French was on his way back to his Benton Park home from a gas station around 11 PM on October 13th. When French pulled up to the curb outside of his home a silver Honda Accord quickly pulled in behind him. A passenger then hopped out, approached him, and flashed a gun. "A car came up right behind sort of half parallel parked behind me. A passenger got out with a firearm, told me to get out of my car and empty my pockets," French told the news station. Since he was alone at night and the nearest streetlight was burned out, French decided that discretion was the better part of valor and did as he was told. "All I got out luckily were my keys and I said what do I do now. I was asking for orders," French told the station. "He said get up and walk away. Face away and keep walking." French complied with the carjacker's demands. "I'm glad I didn't panic or threaten violence or make any quick moves," French said. "Kept my wits about me as best as I could. Asked thieves for instructions on what to do to prevent harm to myself." But then a strange thing happened. The carjackers apparently left French's car behind and took off without stealing anything. French told KMOV he believes that they did so because his car has a manual transmission and the gunman, who St. Louis Police say was in his late teens or early-20s, couldn't drive one. Thankfully, French wasn't hurt and his Nissan is still safely in his possession. Related Video: News Source: KMOV Auto News Weird Car News Honda Nissan Safety carjacking stick shift accord
Based on wing, next Civic Type R may go eleventy billion mph
Tue, Oct 13 2015Honda just returned to the hot hatch arena with the new Civic Type R. And what a beast it is. But as we know, there's already a new Civic on its way. That is slated to include a new Type R as well, and that's just what our spy photographers have caught undergoing testing at the Nurburgring. Underneath all that camouflage we can see that this prototype is packing an aggressive front end, a giant rear wing, and a trio of tailpipes protruding out the back. Expect the new Type R to offer even more power than the current one, which already produces a stonking 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. That's already enough to propel the existing model to 60 miles per hour in 5.7 seconds and lap the Nordschleife in a front-drive record-beating 7:50.63. (Though not enough to match the Ford Focus RS, as we recently found out.) Best of all, we've got good cause to be optimistic that the new Civic Type R will be offered in the United States (unlike the current one) to dice it with the likes of that new fast Ford. We're told that the new Civic will be rolled out first as a sedan, then as a coupe, followed by the five-door hatch, the warmed-up Civic Si, and finally the Type R. That means we should look for Honda's new hot hatch to arrive in about a year from now as a 2017 model. In the meantime, you can scope out the latest spy shots in the gallery above.
