Fernando Alonso expects to retire after McLaren-Honda

Fri, Apr 10 2015

When Fernando Alonso was three years old, his father gave him a model of a McLaren-Honda grand prix car. That's where his path to Formula One started, and it's where he wants his career to end as well. Speaking with Autosport, the two-time world champion indicated that he intends to retire after he's done at McLaren, rather than switch to another team. Of course, he didn't indicate just when that would be, but as far as he's concerned, the road ends in Woking. The highly rated and immensely successful Spanish driver has been on the grid for fourteen years now. He started out with Minardi (precursor to Toro Rosso) in 2001, then spent four seasons with Renault, where he scored back-to-back world titles. He then switched to McLaren for one year, where he won four races, then back to Renault for another three where he and the team fell off their form. Fernando subsequently switched to Ferrari where he spent the last five seasons, thrice finishing second in the world championship but never quite managing to clinch an elusive third title. This year he's back at McLaren but has had a bumpy start. After crashing during a pre-season test session, he sat out the season opener, and failed to finish the second round in Malaysia. He's now in Shanghai preparing for this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix. Like this writer, he'll be turning 34 in July, making him the fourth oldest driver on the grid this year. So he's still got a good few years in him, and will likely want to see the troubled rekindling of the McLaren-Honda partnership through to winning form. But while nobody can tell what the future will bring, it looks like any other team that hopes to lure the champ away could end up disappointed.

Honda Goldwing airbag recall spreads Takata mess to motorcycles

Thu, Jun 2 2016

Recall, after recall, after recall, one thing has remained constant in the Takata airbag quagmire: The disaster has been confined to the four-wheeled realm. Not any longer. The Honda Goldwing, the first and so far the only motorcycle equipped with an airbag from the factory, has been recalled. A total of 2,701 motorcycles are involved in this recall, spanning the 2006 through 2010 model years, and only in certain regions. It's sort of confusing, so we suggest perusing the official notice below for all the details. But the gist is the same as ever – Takata's airbag inflators can rupture, potentially propelling shards of metal shrapnel at the vehicle's occupants. Or in this case, the motorcycle riders. Only Goldwings sold or operated in areas with high humidity or frequent temperature cycling are being recalled at this time. No schedule for repairs and replacements has yet been announced, but owners are invited to call Honda at 1-866-784-1870 for more information. As always, you can check the recall status of your vehicle with NHTSA's lookup tool using your car or bike's VIN. Honda tunes HR-V, shows Baja Pilot pre-runner at SEMA

Wed, Nov 4 2015

Honda has a lot more at the SEMA Show than just it's tough looking, Baja-prepped Ridgeline, but the automaker isn't really saying a whole lot about them. Even though the company has a massive gallery of photos showing off these aftermarket creations, Honda has kept details about their mods quite sparse. While the Ridgeline Baja Race Truck guns for the checkered flag, the Pilot Baja Chase Vehicle is going along for the ride in case any assistance is necessary. The crossover wears a similar Honda Racing livery as its turbocharged sibling, and the company outfits the machine with an LED bar, bumper guards, and off-road tires to get through the desert. Honda also wants buyers to know that there's tuning potential from their new HR-V. To show what's possible from the little crossover, tuners like Bisimoto Engineering, MAD Industries, Tjin Edition and Fox Marketing have some wild creations on display. The weirdest of the bunch definitely is the bizarre pink example above. The little CUV tries to look tough with a wide-body kit, new front bumper, big side sills, and a lowered suspension over metallic gold wheels. Other takes on the model make it ready for the track or to haul Honda's Grom motorcycle. Finally, the 2016 Pilot Elite Concept "Black Edition" wears production and concept components from Honda Genuine Accessories. Darkened parts for the wheels, grille, and trim give the crossover a handsome, monochromatic aesthetic. You can check out the whole SEMA cavalcade in the gallery above. Vehicles on Display in the Honda Booth at the 2015 SEMA Show Nov 3, 2015 - LAS VEGAS In additional to the Ridgeline Baja Race Truck announced today, Honda also showcased accessorized and customized versions of multiple new Honda models, including: Pilot Baja Chase Vehicle – a specially tuned 2016 Honda Pilot, in desert racing livery, which will operate as a support vehicle in Honda's SCORE Baja 1000 campaign. Pioneer 1000 – Honda's newest and most powerful side-by-side offering, also in custom desert raving livery, will accompany the Pilot Baja Chase Vehicle on the Baja peninsula to assist in the racing effort. 2016 Honda CR-Z hybrid sports coupe – making its North American debut and boasting new styling, upgraded equipment and features and a new EX-L Navi trim. 2016 Honda HR-V -- four custom-designed HR-Vs from top U.S.
