Additional Information about Honda Odyssey 2008 Touring
| Model Overview | |
| All Odysseys get a 3.5L V6, the same engine that's in Honda's Ridgeline. On the base Odyssey, it puts out 244 horsepower and 240 lb-feet of torque, and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The Odyssey features plenty of minivan comfort features such as dual sliding doors, a retractable center tray table, and beverage holders galore. Remote keyless entry is standard, as is a folding third-row seat, which Honda calls "Magic Seat" because it folds into the floor with one smooth motion. Safety features include anti-lock brakes and side-impact air bags with a roll-over sensor. The upgraded EX model motorizes the dual sliding doors and adds a second-row "Plus-One" removable seat to increase the passenger capacity to eight. Tri-zone climate control is also part of the package. On the EX-L and Touring models, Honda adds variable cylinder management technology, which turns off three cylinders at cruising speed. The EX-L model's i-VTEC variable valve timing system doesn't increase power output, but the torque does come on slightly sooner, improving engine response. The Odyssey is no sports car, but at 8.6 seconds to 60 mph, it merges like a smaller car.The EX-L utilizes an active noise cancellation system that uses the vehicle's stereo to cancel wind and road noise in order to create an even quieter ride. A power sunroof, leather seat trim and steering wheel, are also upgrades included on the EX-L.The Touring models gain XM satellite radio. This Touring model includes front and rear parking sensors, a programmable trip computer, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with a nine-inch drop-down display, wireless headphones, and a navigation system. |

Honda launches new JDM Odyssey, Mugen chips in [w/video]
Fri, 01 Nov 2013Honda has just released its new Odyssey minivan for the Japanese Domestic Market, and it has plenty of style and room for up to eight people. Honda factory tuning company Mugen will also offer performance and styling parts for the fifth-generation minivan.
The Odyssey is offered in B and G trim with a 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter I-VTEC four-cylinder mated to a continuously variable transmission with optional paddle shifters and seven 'speeds.' The more upscale Odyssey Absolute features sportier styling, and but all models are available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
The interior follows a "modern suite" design concept inspired by luxury hotels, with wood trim and comfortable-looking seats. Additionally, customers can choose between models with a lift-up second-row seat or a lift-up front passenger seat. Honda highlights the Odyssey's low floor height and high ceiling, which accentuates the spacious interior. The low floor also endows the minivan with a step height of 30 centimeters (11.8 inches) at the rear sliding door to afford easy entry.
Honda getting in on the Daytona Prototype racing action
Fri, 14 Mar 2014Racing fans at Sebring are plenty used to seeing Honda powering into the winner's circle, the Japanese motor company having claimed class victories at the endurance race in Florida in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Those were all in the LMP2 category, but with the Twelve Hours of Sebring now part of the combined United SportsCar Championship, Honda is branching out into another class: Daytona Prototypes.
The purpose-built racing machinery that were once part of the Grand-Am series are now racing alongside the LMP2 prototypes from the American Le Mans Series under the united championship. So far Ford and Chevy have signed on to power the Daytona Prototypes, and now Honda's joining their ranks as the only manufacturer to field entries in both categories of the championship's Prototype class.
The competition-spec 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 revealed last month is based on the same J35 engine that powers everything from the Honda Accord to the Acura RLX and MDX. Now it will power the Riley chassis fielded by Starworks Motorsports, competing alongside the pair of Honda Performance Development (HPD) ARX-03b chassis which Extreme Speed Motorsports will campaign under LMP2 regulations, giving Honda a two-pronged, three-car assault on the top class of the new American sports car racing series.
Honda opening first new motherland plant in almost 50 years
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Despite opening dozens of overseas plants in the past several decades in locations all over the globe, Honda Motor Co. has not expanded its car manufacturing capabilities in its home market of Japan since opening a facility in Sayama back in 1964.
But all of that is set to change this July when Honda opens the doors to a new assembly plant in Yorii, about two hours north of Tokyo. According to Bloomberg, the new facility has a projected annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles. The plant is part of the automaker's reorganization efforts, plans that include scaling back its older Sayama plant and bringing Yorii online with more efficient and innovative technology. There are additional benefits, too, as the Yorii plant is expected to create 3,800 jobs, both on-site and at its suppliers, and boost the local economy as other businesses ramp up to accommodate the influx of new workers.
While the automaker has not released specifics about which models will be produced at Yorii, Honda is expected to consolidate production of models including the Fit, a best-seller in its domestic market.
