Honda, Acura recall 450,000 cars for seatbelt issue
Thu, Mar 16 2023Honda is recalling nearly half a million Honda and Acura vehicles to address an issue that can prevent passengers from latching their seatbelts. The campaign covers most of the mainstream brand's popular family cars, including the CR-V, Accord and Odyssey. Per the company's report, normal wear and tear can cause the driver and passenger seatbelt release buttons to bind, preventing the latches from properly engaging. "The seat belt buckle channel [sic] for the driver and front passenger seat belts were manufactured out of specification, causing interference between the buckle channel and the release button," Honda's report to NHTSA said. "With continuous use, the buckle channel surface coating may deteriorate over time, and the release button may shrink against the channel at low temperatures, increasing friction. This can result in issues with the seat belt buckle latching." Here is the full list of cars and model years included in the campaign: 2019-2020 Acura RDX 2018-2019 Honda Accord/Accord Hybrid 2017-2020 Honda CR-V 2019 Honda Insight 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey Honda said that the problem first surfaced back in 2019 and that the company has received more than 300 warranty claims related to the problem. No injuries or fatalities have been reported. Owners will have replacement parts installed free of charge. Honda says notices should be distributed to owners starting in April. Related video: Recalls Acura Honda Ownership Safety
2017 Honda Civic Type R mule sports sweet exhaust
Fri, Sep 4 2015The 2016 Honda Civic might be one the most-spied cars in recent memory, but the wait to actually see the new model is just a few days away on Sept. 16. That big reveal is only for the sedan, but these fresh shots show a sporty variant of the five-door that our spies speculate could preview bits of the next-gen Civic Type R. These photos seem to show the same variant recently spotted in Spain, but there are some notable differences and better angles here. Up front, the styling still shows the same Acura-like design as the patent drawings, but these images make it much easier to spot the narrow mesh in the grilles of the lower air dam. The major change along the side is the new set of big, black wheels with low-profile tires, and this setup fits the style much better than the earlier car. Plus, you can easily spot larger front brake discs and a Brembo logo on the caliper this time. Thankfully, these photos provide a much better look at the earlier example's weird, center-mounted exhaust layout, too. It appears that the larger pipes on the outside each have their own muffler, but there doesn't appear to be one for the smaller outlet in the middle. There's still the possibility this could be a way of testing the single-exit design from the 2016 Civic concept. We know the next-gen Civic will be offered as a sedan, coupe, and five-door. Plus, Si and Type R trims will eventually join the lineup. At the current rate of spy shots, we'll see them all well before their respective reveals. Related Video:
2017 Honda Accord Hybrid comes with $300 price hike
Wed, Jun 15 2016The 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid went on sale at US dealerships today with an MSRP of $29,605, or $300 more than the 2016 model. Among other new bells and whistles, the sedan, which is available in three trims, includes features such as front and rear parking sensors, remote engine start, heated rear seats, and rain sensing wipers, not to mention the "elegantly contoured" aluminum hood. Honda Sensing driver-assist features are now part of the standard equipment package, while the EX-L version includes touchscreen interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Honda revealed details about the model in April, saying at the time that it had a combined fuel-economy rating of 48 miles per gallon. Honda notes that rating can't be compared to the 2016 model-year's fuel economy because of "new more stringent ratings requirements enacted by the US EPA," though has estimated that, apples to apples, the fuel-economy of the 2017 version is up about four percent. That, even though the car's horsepower is also increased about eight percent to 212. The new price tag means the Accord Hybrid will start about $1,600 higher than the Toyota Camry Hybrid. That model kept its pricing at $27,625 for the 2017 model year. Regardless, Honda is hoping to goose its hybrid sales with the updated model. Honda and its Acura division's hybrid sales through May plunged 79 percent from a year earlier to 1,975 units. Last year, Honda sold 11,063 Accord Hybrids, down 21 percent from a year earlier. By comparison, Toyota sold 30,640 Camry Hybrid's last year, marking a 22 percent drop from 2014. Meantime, take a look at Honda's press release below.
