Honda recalls 6,800 Accord hybrids for switching to fail-safe mode
Tue, Oct 6 2015Honda is recalling 6,786 examples of the 2014-2015 Accord hybrid for an issue that can cause them to go into fail-safe mode. There are no reports of injuries or accidents, but the company has received 58 warranty claims about the problem as of Sept. 17, 2015, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported. Due to an issue in the sedan's hybrid battery cell voltage sensor, the part can be affected by electrical noise from the hybrid battery inverter and motor circuits. When this happens, the vehicle enter a fail-safe EV mode, which shuts off the internal combustion engine and limits the speed to 40 miles per hour. According to Honda, the Accord hybrids have about two miles of driving range in this state, and afterwards they stall. As a fix, the automaker has a software update to keep the sensor from misinterpreting the electrical noise. RECALL Subject : Hybrid System may go into Fail Safe Mode Report Receipt Date: SEP 25, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V602000 Component(s): HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM Potential Number of Units Affected: 6,786 All Products Associated with this Recall Vehicle Make Model Model Year(s) HONDA ACCORD HYBRID 2014-2015 Details Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) SUMMARY: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Honda Accord Hybrid vehicles manufactured August 29, 2013, to May 30, 2015. Electrical interference may cause the hybrid system to switch into fail-safe mode, disabling the gasoline engine, limiting the vehicle's speed to 40 miles per hour and functioning only on battery power. Once the battery is discharged, the vehicle will stall. CONSEQUENCE: A vehicle stall increases the risk of a crash. REMEDY: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will update the hybrid system software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin November 6, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is JT7. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov. Statement by American Honda Regarding Cell Voltage Sensor Recall: 2014-2015 Accord Hybrid Oct 5, 2015 - TORRANCE, Calif. Honda will voluntarily recall 6,786 model-year 2014-2015 Accord Hybrid vehicles in the United States to update the hybrid system software related to the hybrid battery cell voltage sensor (CVS), free of charge.
Honda gives itself room to delay FCV hydrogen car until June 2017
Tue, Mar 3 2015In a new press release issued to discuss vehicles on display at the Geneva Motor Show, Honda said something a bit curious about its upcoming hydrogen car. The release reads: "The FCV Concept previews an all-new fuel cell road car that is scheduled to go on sale in Japan in the first half of 2016, and subsequently in the USA and Europe within the following 12 months." The last official word was that Honda said the car would arrive in Japan in March 2016, with US and European roll-out some time after that. The new announcement gives the company some wiggle room to adjust that timeline, since 12 months after the first half of 2016 could, theoretically, be at late as June 30, 2017. So, we asked Honda North America's senior environment and safety specialist Angie Nucci if this means that the FCV will be delayed at all. She said she doesn't have additional details for the next-gen FCV availability, "other than March 2016 in Japan and then the US and Europe after. It's the same timing that we discussed in LA." In other words, we might be reading too much into this. But it's worth noting in case the timeline does slip (again). 2016 Honda Civic Coupe starts at $19,885, Touring for $26,960
Wed, Mar 9 2016Honda has posted prices for the 2016 Civc Coupe, which we liked quite a bit during our First Drive. The base LX trim starts at $19,885 (after $835 destination for all models). That's $410 more than the 2016 sedan in LX guise, which goes for $19,475. The previous-gen 2015 Civic Coupe LX went for $19,125. Honda keeps the features of the respective trim levels largely the same between the coupe and sedan. Even base cars come with amenities like LED running lights and a five-inch infotainment system. Where the two-door differs slightly is the unique LX-P version, which costs $21,685. It uses the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, but gets the CVT standard. The LX-P also includes a moonroof, keyless entry with push-button start, and a remote engine starter. If you want to experience Honda's lauded 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder's 174 hp and 162 lb-ft in the coupe, the least expensive option is the EX-T trim for $23,135. It also includes a seven-inch infotainment system, automatic climate control, and heated seats. The model is also only $100 more than the same version of the sedan. According to the numbers currently on Honda's site, the top two coupe trims are actually cheaper than their four-door counterparts. The EX-L with leather upholstery and an auto-dimming rearview mirror costs $24,260 as a two-door versus $24,535 as a sedan. The range-topping Touring model costs $26,960 and includes the Honda Sensing active safety suite, navigation, LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers and heated mirrors. In comparison, the Touring sedan sells for $27,335. We'll have to wait a little longer before the actual configurator is available to pretend that we're building our own. Related Video:
