Honda Civic Type R Concept to hatch in Geneva
Wed, 12 Feb 2014As if the Geneva Motor Show isn't exciting enough, now we have word that a new version of a certain iconic Japanese hot hatch will make an appearance there in a few weeks time. Honda has announced that its Civic Type R Concept will be revealed during the show's media days, which take place March 4 and 5.
Since this is Honda we're talking about, we should point out that the "Concept" part of the Civic Type R's name is usually a bit of a misnomer. For the past few years, the Japanese automaker has made a habit of attaching "Concept" to the end of several near-production models in the name of drumming up auto show excitement (see Exhibits A, B, C, D and E). So really, this is almost certainly the next Civic Type R, a car we've kind of already driven.
The latter car was a "development" model, but we aren't expecting a lot to change between it and the production model. As previously reported, a 2.0-liter, turbocharged engine should deliver north of 280 horsepower to the front wheels via a six-speed gearbox. Have a look up top at the sole image of the hot Civic released by Honda, and then scroll down for the official press release.
Honda: Somebody To Love (Ridgeline)
Mon, Feb 8 2016If you want to search for symbolism in this Honda Ridgeline ad that aired during Super Bowl 50, there's plenty to be had. It looks like a simple, funny demonstration of the compact truck's cargo bed audio system. Sheep, hearing the speakers from the back of bed, pick up the earworm of Queen's Somebody to Love and start singing on their own. But the sheep imagery could also be seen as an indictment of the me-too half-ton truck crowd. The Ridgeline, returning for the second generation after a brief hiatus, is sort of an anti-truck with unibody construction, a dual-hinged tailgate, and a trunk inside the bed. Normal pickup folk see the Ridgeline as not enough truck. Honda fans see those types as sheeple. Or maybe it's just a fun ad with a catchy song and some talking animals. Honda opening first new motherland plant in almost 50 years
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Despite opening dozens of overseas plants in the past several decades in locations all over the globe, Honda Motor Co. has not expanded its car manufacturing capabilities in its home market of Japan since opening a facility in Sayama back in 1964.
But all of that is set to change this July when Honda opens the doors to a new assembly plant in Yorii, about two hours north of Tokyo. According to Bloomberg, the new facility has a projected annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles. The plant is part of the automaker's reorganization efforts, plans that include scaling back its older Sayama plant and bringing Yorii online with more efficient and innovative technology. There are additional benefits, too, as the Yorii plant is expected to create 3,800 jobs, both on-site and at its suppliers, and boost the local economy as other businesses ramp up to accommodate the influx of new workers.
While the automaker has not released specifics about which models will be produced at Yorii, Honda is expected to consolidate production of models including the Fit, a best-seller in its domestic market.
