Toyota, Ford and Honda again top Consumer Reports Car-Brand Perception Survey

Fri, 01 Feb 2013

Consumer Reports has released its annual Car-Brand Perception Survey, and the list looks awfully familiar. The top six brands are identical to last year's results, with Toyota, Ford and Honda continuing to occupy the podium. All told, Toyota walked away with 133 points, putting it 15 ahead of second-place Ford. Honda jumped 26 points this year, narrowing Ford's lead to just four points in total.
Consumer Reports polls buyers from across the country on how they see multiple brands in seven categories, including quality, safety, value, performance, design/style, technology/innovation and environmentally friendly/green. Researchers then combine the findings to come up with the total brand score.
While value and performance remain important to buyers, CR found quality and safety are still on top when it comes to significance. Scion and Mitsubishi found themselves at the bottom of the pack with the worst score of all, tied at just six points. Ram, Fiat and Mini filled out the lowest five with scores of seven, eight and 10 points, respectively. You can read the full press release below for more information, or head over to the Consumer Reports site.

Honda not ready to give up on CR-Z, Civic Hybrid in US just yet

Thu, Feb 5 2015

Honda has already killed off the CR-Z in Europe, so news that the car is no longer going to be sold in Australia isn't exactly a surprise. In fact, Car Advice says that both the CR-Z and the Civic Hybrid are coming to the end of the line Down Under following disappointing sales. Honda sold only 370 CR-Zs in Australia in 2012 and then 58 in 2013 and 86 in 2014. These cancellations got us thinking: what does the future look like for these vehicles in the US? Well, stateside, CR-Z sales dropped almost 20 percent in 2014, compared to 2013, to 3,562 units. The Civic Hybrid sold just 5,070 units, a drop of almost 35 percent. Both of these vehicles use the aging Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) mild hybrid system, which the company's other hybrids (like the Accord) do not. Does that mean Honda hybrid fans will soon no longer be able to buy a CR-Z or Civic Hybrid? Not so fast, says Angie Nucci, Honda PR's senior environment and safety specialist. "The 2015 CR-Z went on-sale in early October and the 2015 Civic Hybrid went on-sale the following month in November," Nucci said. "Since these vehicles went on-sale fairly recently, it is simply too early to discuss future models at this time." Still, in Australia, the CR-Z and Civic Hybrid are both officially leaving the line-up. The company say that three new "Hybrid Sport" models will be coming at some point, starting with the Accord Hybrid later this year. The next one will be the NSX and then the Jazz Hybrid. The Jazz is another name for the Fit, which we do not get in a hybrid version in the US. Honda Ridgeline spy shots show more truck-like lines

Tue, Nov 17 2015

Honda is preparing to roll out its all-new, second-generation Ridgeline. And while we've seen several hints at what it will look like, this is our best look yet. This prototype has dropped all the heavy body cladding and shows its overall shape. As you can see from these latest spy shots, the new Honda Ridgeline will adopt a more conventional form than the model it replaces. So while it still has a bit of a flying buttress behind the C-pillar and above the front of the pickup bed, it looks nowhere near as deep and enveloping one on the outgoing model. The bed also appears to incorporate lighting into its liner. The new Ridgeline still appears to optimize the quad-cab to short-bed ratio proportions. However it looks set to compete more actively in the resurgent midsize pickup market than its segment-defying predecessor. In that regard, Honda aims to more directly take on the likes of the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, and Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. What we can't see from these spy shots are details like the lights and grille treatment. However the Baja show truck revealed at SEMA mere weeks ago provided glimpses at those elements. Combine that with the still-camouflaged prototype pictured here, and we're starting to get a pretty solid idea of what the four-door pickup will look like once it reaches production. Related Video:
