GM recalls trucks and SUVs for brake pedal problem

Thu, Feb 11 2016

The Basics: General Motors will recall over 473,000 North American examples of the 2015-2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD, and police pursuit versions of the Chevy Tahoe. These include 426,573 vehicles in the US and 46,837 in Canada, according to Reuters. The Problem: The brake pivot nut can loosen over time, which can render the pedal inoperative. This would be a danger to drivers trying to stop the vehicles. In some cases, the "Service Engine Soon" light might come on. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: Dealers will inspect the pivot bolt, and if necessary they will apply adhesive to it and reinstall the part with increased torque. If You Own One: "We expect to start customer notifications shortly," GM spokesperson Tom Wilkinson told Autoblog. If the brake pedal becomes loose or inoperative, it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, and/or the driver may be unable to safely stop the vehicle through application of the brake pedal, potentially affecting stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the pivot bolt installation to determine whether the vehicle has already received the production remedy. If not, the dealer will add adhesive to the nut, and reinstall the nut at an increased torque. Note: This condition may result in the "Service Engine Soon" light illuminating, and brake lights may stay on longer than expected. 2022 GMC Terrain from $600 to $900 less expensive

Thu, Feb 3 2022

The 2022 GMC Terrain is another one of those vehicles that, despite current economic trends, costs less than the 2021 model year — and GMC hasn't cut equipment as a way to justify the cuts. That doesn't mean there aren't any changes, though. The base SL trim level is gone, the SLE taking over at the entry-level point. Opting for AWD on the SLE and SLT trims adds $1,600 to the price, no change from 2021. Slotting into the lineup to maintain a four-trim range is the AT4 model that tilts at off-road use. The top shelf Terrain Denali no longer comes with front-wheel drive, either, AWD the only choice now. That makes the only Denali $700 more expensive than shoppers could pick up a 2021 Terrain Denali for; however, the AWD model is less expensive. Prices for the 2022 Terrain and the differences from 2021, after the $1,195 destination charge, are: SLE FWD: $30,290 ($600 less)  SLT FWD: $34,290 ($700 less) AT4 AWD: $36,390 (New model) DENALI AWD: $39,190 ($900 less) As part of the refresh for 2022, all Terrains get larger grilles, all-LED exterior lighting with larger headlights and new C-shaped taillights. Both the AT4 and Denali get unique grille designs, the former fitting a gunmetal grey design with thick slats, the latter an all-chrome matter with more delicate lattice-work between the slats. The AT4 also boasts a front skid plate for protection, plus chunkier tires. The Elevation trim returns, too, as a black-out appearance package for the more entry-level SLE and SLT trims. The interior is mostly unchanged except for a revised shifter panel — the buttons are new, but the same controversial design remains. There are new features available, though. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still standard, but now they're wireless. A head-up display is available as an option for SLT and AT4, while it comes standard on the Denali. The Denali also gets an 8-inch screen in the instrument panel. Only the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder and nine-speed automatic have been announced for the Terrain, making the same 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque as before. We're expecting a higher-horsepower, larger-displacement engine to be offered in the near future. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. GM recalls 740,000 vehicles over daytime running light issue

Wed, Dec 14 2022

General Motors is recalling over 740,000 vehicles due to a daytime running light issue that causes all of the affected cars to run afoul of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Vehicles affected by this recall are spread across many of GM’s brands. Models include the 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5, 2021-2023 Buick Envision, 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, 2022-2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe and 2022-2023 GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL. GM says that the daytime running lights may remain on in these cars when the headlights are activated. This is a problem, because FMVSS rules require that the daytime running lights deactivate once the headlights turn on. If the DRLs remain on, GM says that could result in additional glare, thereby increasing the risk of an accident. The cause of this failure to deactivate the DRLs comes from body control module software that “under a combination of certain pre-conditions, could fail to deactivate the DRLs,” according to GM. Other GM vehicles were tested, but due to a difference in software or hardware, they remain unaffected. If this is reminding you of another recent GM recall, youÂ’d be right, as GM recalled another 340,000 vehicles for the same issue last month. After that original issue was found within GM, the company began looking into its other cars to determine if the population was larger than originally thought. GM found the additional vehicles included in todayÂ’s recall have the problem. The fix will either be via an over-the-air update or it will require you to bring the vehicle into a dealer for a software update, depending on which vehicle you have. Owner notification letters letting folks know what is necessary are currently scheduled to go out on January 23, 2023. Related video: Cadillac Escalade Infotainment Review
