GMC Sierra spied with ZR2-style off-road modifications
Fri, Feb 4 2022A few months ago, the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 was revealed with a bunch of off-road goodies to help it achieve a little more parity with trucks like the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX. But GM has another full-size truck, the GMC Sierra, and it would seem silly to us if the company didn't share those parts. Based on these spy photos, it seems GM agrees. Though thoroughly camouflaged, we can tell this truck is a GMC Sierra thanks to the sheetmetal on the doors and the distinct shape of the wheel arches. Under the wrappings, we can see that this Sierra features a very different front bumper to the current king of Sierra off-road models, the AT4X. The bottom edge is much higher for better clearance, particularly on the sides in front of the wheels. This is the same type of change applied to the Silverado ZR2's front end. It does appear to be missing the ZR2's skid plate, though we suspect that's a temporarily missing component on this prototype. One other off-road upgrade this Sierra features is a pair of rock rails to protect the rocker panels on the cab. What we can't see are the shocks installed on this truck. If this is a GMC version of the ZR2, it should have the spool-valve shocks from Multimatic. They're some of our favorite suspension components on any vehicle. Other components it should have are locking front and rear differentials, 33-inch tires and a standard 6.2-liter V8. Since the Silverado ZR2 is already revealed and ready for production, we would expect to see the GMC version soon. A good bet would be for a reveal in time for the 2023 model year. As for a name, it's hard to say, since we've already had AT4 and AT4X. It could be named something completely separate from the AT4 line. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. GM ending stop-sale order on heavy-duty trucks
Tue, Apr 26 2022General Motors responded to an inquiry from Autoblog regarding a stop-sale order on its full-size heavy-duty pickup trucks. Here's GM's official statement. GM is committed to building the highest quality products possible. We paused delivery on a small number of HD pickups with the 6.6 liter Duramax engine last week to finalize an investigation into a potential quality issue. The investigation has been completed and the stop sale will be lifted for the small number of vehicles at dealerships.Customers can be assured GM’s heavy duty pickups are covered by a 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The original article continues below. General Motors has reportedly sent its Chevrolet and GMC dealers a stop-sale order that applies to some examples of the 2022 Silverado HD, the 2022 Silverado MD, and the 2022 Sierra HD. The units affected by the stop-sale order may develop an engine-related problem. Citing anonymous sources, website GM Authority wrote that the Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 in the affected trucks can hydrolock, which means liquid could enter the cylinders and cause a substantial amount of damage. The report does not specify where the liquid would come from; hydrolocking can happen by driving through a deep puddle of water, for example, but a large amount of coolant can cause it as well. The publication adds that the stop-sale order was assigned internal reference number N222362910. It also notes that the trucks included in it can't be sold, delivered to buyers, traded with another dealer, sent to auction, or even used for demonstration purposes until further notice. Earlier in April 2022, GM Authority reported that General Motors planned to buy back an unspecified number of Silverado HD and Sierra HD trucks due to quality-related issues with the 6.6-liter V8. Details about the problems experienced by customers haven't been released; all we know is that each truck will be replaced, though the replacement may not have the same equipment due to the ongoing chip shortage. Wards names its 2015 10 Best Interiors list
Fri, Apr 17 2015Wards Automotive has named the winners of its 10 Best Interior awards, covering a wide but affordable array of vehicles. Where last year's list contained two six-figure vehicles, including the $372,800 Rolls-Royce Wraith, this year's is, well, a whole lot more reasonable. The publication lists the Mercedes-Benz C400 at $65,000 (which seems off), making it the most expensive vehicle here. That said, we'd argue that the entire C-Class line deserves to make this year's list, owing to its varied and high-quality selection of materials. The other vehicle to break the $60,000 mark, meanwhile, is the $60,675 Ford F-150 King Ranch, which has 327,000 pounds of leather lining its interior. Only one other German car, the BMW i3, and one other pickup truck, the GMC Canyon, managed to make this year's list. Here's the full list of this year's winners: 2014 BMW i3 ($52,550) 2015 Chrysler 300C Platinum ($51,175) 2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch ($60,675) 2015 GMC Canyon SLT ($40,465) 2015 Honda Fit EX-L ($21,590) 2015 Jeep Renegade Limited ($33,205) 2015 Kia Sedona SXL ($43,295) 2016 Mazda6 Grand Touring ($33,395) 2015 Mercedes C400 ($65,000) 2015 Nissan Murano SL ($41,905) See what we mean about the mainstream vehicles? Not only is there a distinct lack of luxury brands, it's the price of some of the vehicles that surprise. The Honda Fit, Jeep Renegade and Mazda6 are very reasonably priced, especially when you compare Wards price with the starting price. The Renegade Limited starts at less than $25,000, the Mazda at less than $22K and the Fit at under $16,000. Head over to Wards for a more detailed explanation of why each vehicle won.
