2023 GMC Acadia prices reportedly up $1,700 thanks mostly to OnStar

Mon, Jul 18 2022

Earlier this month, GM Authority reported that GM was making OnStar Connected Services mandatory across the GMC and Buick lineups. The inclusion would increase MSRPs by anywhere from $905 to $1,675, GM's rationale being a better customer experience over time. A spokesperson said, "This offering provides our owners with a full suite of OnStar and Connected Services for three years, providing them with more time to enjoy services such as remote key fob, Wi-Fi data and OnStar safety services. By including this plan as standard equipment on the vehicle, it provides more customer value and a more seamless onboarding experience." Although some GMC models are already priced with OnStar included, seems the rollout is still in progress. GMA said it got pricing for the 2023 GMC Acadia, the three-row midsize SUV costing at least $1,700 more than in 2022. While $200 of that is a price bump, the remainder pays for Connected Services. The entry-level 2023 Acadia SLE in front-wheel drive is said to start at $37,895. Adding all-wheel drive adds the same $2,300 in 2023 that it does now. At the other end, the Denali AWD with the 3.6-liter V6 caps the range at $51,695. The Acadia has been spared the increases of so many other models, GM only lifting its price by around $200 since it announced pricing for the 2022 model last summer. The Acadia gets minor changes for the coming year. Three new colors are Sterling Metallic, Ultra Blue Metallic, and Volcanic Red Tintcoat, all of which are cost options. They replace Cayenne Red Tintcoat, Midnight Blue Metallic, and Satin Steel Metallic. The SLT, AT4, and Denali also get a revised steering wheel with audio and cruise controls.

GMC explains why the Hummer EV SUV has only 830 horsepower

Tue, Apr 6 2021

GMC's 2022 Hummer EV pickup made its debut in late 2020 with a headline-grabbing 1,000-horsepower rating. Its SUV sibling broke cover yesterday with 170 fewer horses, so GMC executives had some explaining to do. Al Oppenheiser, the EV's chief engineer, pointed out that the SUV's wheelbase is about nine inches shorter than the truck's, which is called an "SUT" in GMC-speak. It's also about 20 inches shorter overall. Size matters in the electric car world; GMC can't stuff the SUT's big battery pack in the more compact SUV, and this directly influences power. He added that it would have been possible to build a 1,000-horsepower SUV by making changes to the battery pack's layout. His team would have needed to reduce cargo capacity and get rid of the flat loading floor, which were compromises that engineers were not prepared to make. Ultimately, 830 horses should be plenty for most drivers. "Frankly, we are not sorry that it's only 830 horsepower. There aren't many internal combustion engines that can say that. Will we be able to grow horsepower in the future? We are going to push that capability, and as the technology gets to the point where our batteries are smaller and more efficient, we will improve performance with any chance we get," Oppenheiser said. It helps that the Ultium battery technology GMC uses is extremely modular. Less powerful versions of the Hummer SUV are in the cards, too. At launch in early 2023, the model will exclusively be offered with the aforementioned 830-horsepower drivetrain, which offers around 300 miles of driving range. Pricing will start at $105,595 before options are factored in. Several months later, GMC will release an EV2X variant with up to 625 horsepower, about the same amount of driving range, and an $89,995 price tag before incentives. GM can't keep up with most popular pickup orders

Mon, 30 Sep 2013

With the market for pickup trucks at its best since before the recession, General Motors can't afford any hiccups with the launch of its new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins, but it sounds like the popularity of V8-powered trucks is causing some supply-chain issues. Bloomberg reports that GM is experiencing a shortage of 5.3-liter V8 engines because an unnamed parts supplier has been unable to keep up with demand. This is leading GM to restrict the number of V8 Silverado and Sierra trucks that Chevrolet and GMC dealers are allowed to order.
Although it's unclear how long it will take to resolve the parts shortage, GM doesn't have much time to sort it out, as a new Ford F-150 looms on the horizon. At launch, GM's fullsize trucks were offered only with a base 4.3-liter V6 and the 5.3-liter V8, but a burlier 6.2-liter V8 will be available soon. Interestingly, at least at the moment, GM truck buyers don't seem as willing to downsize to V6 power as buyers of the F-150, which gets some 42-percent of its sales from trucks equipped with its EcoBoost V6 engine (not including the normally aspirated base V6).
Working out the kinks in the Silverado and Sierra's supply chain couldn't be more important to the health of the company. Full-size pickups are a huge profit driver - in 2012, the trucks were said to make up about two-third of GM's total profits.
