Power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seat, air conditioning, remote side mirror, 2 way tailgate, hideaway headlights, wood grain dash and exterior.

This  is a rare clean station wagon, it had the same owner since the early 70's and I have the build sheet and probably every receipt from then to date.  This is a high option car and everything works except the AC does not blow cold, I have not looked into why.   It has the hide away head lights that are so cool and power windows including the rear that all work.  The interior is near perfect with the exception of the carpet which is faded, the front seat has been recovered to match and all the mechanical working parts in the power front seat have been taken apart, cleaned and lubed and it works great.  The dash is wood grain and the dash pad is really nice, there is fading in the lens over the clock the rest of the dash is clear. The rear side panels are nice and the floor has very few scratches and a nice headliner.  The floor pans are near perfect as is the spare tire well and trunk.

The exterior of the car is real nice, the paint is very good with the usual chips, the body is straight with a small dent in the passenger rear quarter panel, the wood grain on the sides is still dark brown although the tailgate is faded.  I have not found any rust in the body with the exception of a little surface rust.  The hood had been bent when I got it so I put a brown hood on it while searching for a GT hood, the hood actually looks good a most people think it came that way.  The hood is in good shape but the paint is bad.  The hideaway headlights work but come part way open shortly after shutting down the engine which indicates a vacuum leak some where in the system.  I have replaced the switch and most the hoses, the can holds pressure so it may be the actuator.  It is missing a grill off the driver side headlight door that may be seen in the pictures.

The engine runs smooth (requires premium gas) and sounds good with the flowmaster mufflers on dual exhaust (it has a nice rumble).  I think the engine is the original and has been untouched except for tuning and lubing, the transmission does not hesitate and shifts good, the rearend is a 9 inch stamped 3.00 HD and had tapered tubes which I am told is heavy duty.

All and all this is a very nice car and you may look a long time to find a cleaner Torino wagon if at all.  It does need some tinkering with the following: the dash pad rattles so someone may have had it out and never got it tight, there is some squeaking in the front suspension so it may need a bushing or two, sometimes it floods sitting so it may need a kit in the carb and it stops well but may be getting close to brakes.  None of these need done to drive they are just things that I would look into, I just want you to be aware.

Ford recalls over 953,000 vehicles to replace Takata airbag inflators

Fri, Jan 4 2019

DETROIT — Ford is recalling more than 953,000 vehicles worldwide to replace Takata passenger airbag inflators that can explode and hurl shrapnel. The move includes over 782,000 vehicles in the U.S. and is part of the largest series of recalls in U.S. history. Included are the 2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, the 2010 and 2011 Ford Ranger, the 2010 to 2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, the 2010 and 2011 Mercury Milan, and the 2010 to 2014 Ford Mustang. Some of the recalls may be limited to specific geographic areas of the U.S. Takata used the chemical ammonium nitrate to create an explosion to inflate airbags. But it can deteriorate over time due to heat and humidity and explode with too much force, blowing apart a metal canister designed to contain the explosion. At least 23 people have been killed worldwide and hundreds injured by the inflators. Ford says it doesn't know of any injuries in vehicles included in this recall. Dealers will replace the inflators. Ford will notify owners about the recall starting on Feb. 18, and the company has replacement parts available for dealers to order, said spokeswoman Monique Brentley. In previous Takata recalls, parts availability had been an issue. Owners can go to this Ford website and key in their vehicle identification number to see if their cars and SUVs are being recalled. The same information will be available soon at the NHTSA recall website. More than three years after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration took over management of recalls involving Takata inflators, one third of the recalled inflators still have not been replaced, according to an annual report from the government and a court-appointed monitor. The report says 16.7 million faulty inflators out of 50 million under recall have yet to be replaced. And 10 million more inflators are scheduled to be recalled this month, including the Ford vehicles. Safety advocates said the completion rate should be far higher given the danger associated with the inflators. The recalls forced Takata of Japan to seek bankruptcy protection and sell most of its assets to pay for the fixes. The inflators grow more dangerous as they get older because ammonium nitrate deteriorates due to high humidity and cycles from hot temperatures to cold. The most dangerous inflators are in areas of the South along the Gulf of Mexico that have high humidity. Related Video:

The fascinating forgotten civil defense history of Mister Softee trucks

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

Hemmings came across an interesting article from the Throwin' Wrenches blog about the intersection of ice cream, cars and civic duty in America's late 1950s. In particular, it focuses on the Mister Softee trucks, which criss-crossed neighborhoods of the eastern US serving ice cream. Looking past the ultra-durable vehicles used - heavy-duty Ford-based chassis, for what it's worth - the article delves into some deeper national-security territory.
See, Mister Softee truck owners were voluntary members of the Civil Defense, thanks to all the useful stuff (potable water, generators, freezers and fridges) that the machines carried with them for serving ice cream. Click over to Throwin' Wrenches for the full run down of how Mister Softee would have stepped in to help fight if the Cold War ever turned a little hotter.

Ford announces free brake pad offer if customers stop by dealers

Mon, 04 Aug 2014

These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers.
"We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts.
Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1.
