1973 Mercury Montego with 37,000 original miles                      It sure looks like this sweet early 70's luxury muscle car has been living in a time capsule with only 37,000 original miles. This golden beauty was purchased from an elderly couple that no longer drove the car. It was basically stored in a garage for virtually its entire 40 year existence. It would be very hard to find a classic car with such low mileage at whatever nominal amount this beauty ends up selling for. Anyone who looks at this car can tell that the mileage is original. This car was factory undercoated when it was brand new, and it was always well taken care of by the original owners. It is hard to find a car with the floors, frame, and trunk in this condition on a 40 year old car. There is barely any noticeable rust on the body except for what is visible in the pictures. The chrome is all extremely nice, and the front bumper has its original bumper guards. All of the rubber gaskets and seals are all in very good condition. This car has all of its original panels, so everything opens and closes like new. You simply don't see these olds classics with their original split vinyl tops like this. The factory decals and markings are all still in their original locations. They just don't make cars like this anymore. This is a wonderful candidate for a Montego GT re-creation. All the new owner would need is the scooped hood, and a sweet 429, and this car would look absolutely incredible being upgraded to the next level. However with the original numbers matching straight six cylinder engine, you can save on gas, and maintain the originality of this antique vehicle. The original radio was replaced with an AM/FM Cassette player that works well, although it looks like it fit right into the factory opening, so the dash was never cut up. If the next owner would like to put in a factory AM/FM I'm sure the dash would still look perfect. There are no cracks in the dash pad. The drivers side door has the sport mirror painted to match the body. This car steers very nicely with power steering and power brakes. Both the horn and the lighter still work. The original owner's manual is included in the glove compartment. In fact I can't think of anything that doesn't work. The interior is in very nice condition with sporty high back bucket seats in the front, and the back seat looks like it may only have been used once or twice in the last 40 years. All the seat belts are there, and even the shoulder belts. The headliner looks like brand new. All the glass is in nice condition with no cracks or chips. This car just had a new fuel pump and line installed last week, plus a brand new battery. There is a matching set of four old school B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A steel belted radials mounted on a set of four Magnum 500 wheels with all four centers, and all four beauty trim rings. It seems like the original bias ply full size spare tire is brand new unused, and still holding air. The original jack and crow bar are also in the trunk, so if there is a mishap on the road, you can be on your way safely with a quick tire change. The original steel wheels and the matching set of factory original hubcaps all in good shape will be included in the trunk. This cool old Merc should be all set for a full summer of pleasure cruising, or I really believe it could be used as an everyday driver. It should be very reliable for many years to come. This would make a great second car, or an awesome larger safe car for that new teenage driver in the family. If there were ever a collision with a newer car, I'm fairly certain the other car would lose. Fly in and drive home after the auction is over. General Mitchell Airport in South Milwaukee is less than a half hour away, and I would be more than happy to pick up the winning bidder if they would like. I also have a wonderful retired couple that will deliver cars relatively inexpensive within the tri-state area. I would be happy to pass along their information. This is a prime opportunity to become part of the wonderful world of the muscle and classic car community at a reasonable price. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide has the base model 1973 Mercury Montego listed at $10,300 in high condition $6,100 in average condition, and $3,175 in the lowest possible condition, meaning a car that needs a complete restoration. I have to say this car appears in much better than average condition in my eyes, so whatever this car sells for it will be a sweet deal. This Mercury has great investment potential!! All classic cars have shown to consistently appreciate in value with almost every quarter. This is a great car to take to the local car shows in your area to be part of the excitement. I try to list everything I can think of when I describe a car, but if there is anything you feel I may have missed, please ask as many questions as you like. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. I haven't seen one of these on the road in over 20 years, so chances are the new winner will own the only one anywhere around their neighborhood. After winding down from a nice Memorial Day weekend don't forget to place your bid by 8pm Eastern time, 7pm Central time, or 5pm Pacific time on Monday evening. This is a "No Reserve" auction, so it will be sold to the highest bidder. Hall of Fame Harriet is not included with the purchase. Thank you for viewing my auction! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!!

Ford to rebrand SVT as 999?

Mon, 22 Sep 2014

Ford operates a number of performance divisions around the world. There's SVT in the US, Team RS in Europe and Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) in Australia. But the Blue Oval has been steadily integrating its performance operations into one unit, and here we might have our first indication of what it will be called.
A reader at Jalopnik sent in a survey in which respondents were asked to gauge the name for a new performance brand from a "major automotive manufacturer," and while the identity of that automaker was not disclosed, according to the survey, the automaker is considering the name 999 for its new go-fast unit.
As our compatriots point out, the 999 was Ford's first racecar, a rudimentary chassis with a 19-liter inline-four campaigned by Henry Ford around the turn of the 20th century. (Ford also used the number to designate a Fusion fuel-cell racer a few years back.) That could prove the tie-in Dearborn is looking for in rebranding its performance operations worldwide, replacing the letters SVT, RS and FPV globally under one name.

Ford drops Focus RS teaser ahead of Feb 3 reveal

Wed, Jan 21 2015

Ford is trying to get us hyped for the unveiling of the latest Focus RS on February 3 with this new video teaser. The clip showcases the hot hatch doing some big slides in the wet and dry during testing in Europe and the US, and it definitely makes us even more curious about what the Blue Oval has in store with the RS. Even in this short teaser, Ford continues to dress the more aggressive nose of the Focus RS in camouflage, like the previous test cars. Unfortunately, what's going on under all of that concealment remains a bit of a mystery. Rumors suggest the RS likely uses a tuned version of the Blue Oval's 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder estimated to make between 325 and 350 horsepower. A speculated torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system should keep fears of torque steer at bay, and larger brakes on the test mules indicate that bringing it all to a halt shouldn't be a problem, either. We do know that the hotter Focus will be among the "more than 12" vehicles that the new Ford Performance division will develop through 2020, and the RS will come to the US for the first time. However, US-spec RS models will likely be imported from Europe, which will keep numbers here low and will mean prices estimated to be around $30,000 or more. Until the official specs become available, at least enjoy watching this hot hatch's ability to slide.

Devils, Details and Weight Reduction
There are many things I could call this exercise. A party is not one of them.
I've spent three days crammed in the axle well of this 1989 Mustang with nothing to keep me company beyond a trouble light, a DeWalt drill on the very last of its legs and billion razor sharp, red hot slivers of metal with an affinity for my most sensitive of regions. My joints are raw from crawling around on the concrete. I'm half deaf from the shriek of the spot weld cutter and the boom of the cold chisel and hammer.
