1969 Fairlane Wagon on 2040-cars

1969 Ford Fairlane wagon in the Torino Squire trim level. Originally from North Carolina, and is super solid. Plenty of patina and I purposely left it that way after I purchased it a couple years back. Always gets a crowd at the cruise nights, along with lots of questions. Has it's original 351 Windsor, and FMX trans still intact and runs well. I replaced all the hoses, distributor, starter, alternator, regulator, radiator, water and fuel pumps among other items and added a performer intake and Holley 600 carb with electric choke. Runs strong. A/C has been updated to a modern Sanden compressor and blows ice cold. Trans is super strong and has had a full fluid and filter change. Fuel tank was removed, cleaned and coated, and a new sender installed. Most of the suspension is new including all the springs, and features a 3" drop. No coils were cut to make the drop. The steering slave cylinder is new, and upper ball joints have been replaced too. Has had an alignment too. Wheels are American racing 17x8  in front, 17x9 in the rear. tires are BFG Sport Comps, 255/40 in front, and 275/40's in the rear. less than 1000 miles on them. The car still wears it's original Fomoco brake drums, and brakes at all 4 corners are new. Front has drum brakes, new wheel seals and  the bearings have been repacked. Exhaust is 2-1/2" with H-pipe, and real Flowmasters, not the Chinese knock-offs, sounds awesome. Rear end is a 9". The floors in this car are unbelievably solid(see pics),  surface rust only, and there is not rot out any where. I did find a couple minor pinholes in the bottom of the rear storage area, heavy primer would cover those, but once again, I have left the body condition alone on purpose. There is a rust hole started in the bottom of the left fender( car comes with an extra  perfect fender ), and the underside front edge of the hood has some issue starting, but not bad. The bottom of all the doors are very solid, with surface rust, with the exception of the left front door bottom corner which I took a pic of- very minor, but it's there.  Tailgate is in real good condition, only some surface rust, and the power back window works fine. Carpet is new and the seat bottom has been re-done. the rest of the interior is in fair to good condition, the headliner will need replaced as a next to-do item, in my opinion. I have a new set of kick panels that are not installed yet.

Being an old car, some things to know;

The left door sticks sometimes, just give it a good pull and she'll open.

The shifter is kinda loose, NPD carries the replacement column collar, I just hadn't got to it yet.

The key switch in the gate for the window sometimes does not work, but the one in the dash does. There is spare replacement switch that come with the car.

Needs window felts and dew wipe seals, I have the dew wipes to give the new owner.

Carb may need a bit of fine tuning yet, it's real close, but if you let it idle a long time ( eg; 3-5 minutes), you will see some fuel smoke appear. When you take off, clears right out quickly.

I would suggest running slightly shorter front shocks, if you hit a real big dip, you can fell them bottom very slightly, not bad though.

Oil pan; needs an upsized drain plug, I used a t-bolt drain plug and it has worked fine, I have a perfect pan I will let the new owner have if they want. never been much of an issue for me, sure made oil changes easy.

I also have amassed quite a collection of hard to find parts that will go with this;

All side and rear tailgate glass, and related hardware, including spare electric motor for rear glass.

Super nice left front fender with the correct molding holes for the trim.

Complete set of door hinges

NOS tail light lenses, and chrome bezels.

Spare set of switches for the back window

New kick panels

Extra oil pan.

Set of Magnum 500 wheels in Fair condition with tire on them.

Questions are welcome, additional pics are available,  I have attempted to describe this vehicle as accurately as possible, it is sold as-is with no warranties expressed or implied.

2015 Ford Mustang prototype spotted on the street

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

Our trusty spy photographers have snapped the first photos of the 2015 Ford Mustang prototype out on public streets. With nearly every square inch of the machine covered in heavy camouflage, it's difficult to discern details, but we can see smallish horizontal headlamps at work in the coupe's nose. Ford has made it clear that modern lighting technology will allow the company to get away from large, expensive headlamp arrays in the near future, and the 2015 Mustang may very well be the first of the automaker's products to bow with the new tech. The philosophy was first displayed on the very attractive Evos Concept.
The extensive cladding doesn't extend all the way to the prototype's rockers in the instance, giving us a look at the heavily-sculpted sills. Overall, this test car looks considerably smaller than the current generation Mustang, and elements like a short front overhang and beefy dual-piston calipers give us plenty of hope for the future model. Of course, reports that the 2015 Mustang will bow with an independent rear suspension and EcoBoost power certainly don't hurt our feelings, either.

Ford Figo concept unveiled in India

Mon, 03 Feb 2014

Ford has officially unveiled the Figo Concept at the 2014 Auto Expo in New Delhi. While it may wear a concept badge, we'd argue this little sedan, which is under 12 feet long, looks ready to replace the current Figo and do battle with other B-segment cars in the world's emerging markets.
"With the Figo Concept, we are showing that choosing a compact sedan does not mean compromising on premium design or smart solutions," said Kumar Galhotra, Ford's VP of engineering, global product development. That premium design includes Ford's familial, trapezoidal grille and Fusion-esque headlights in front, while the rear end reminds us of the last-generation Focus Coupe. While that car wasn't exactly attractive, the chopped off tail looks pretty nice on this smaller car. And if you really don't like the looks of the Figo Concept, just remember - it looks better than the current production model. Aerodynamically, the Figo's shape is quite slippery, which means reduced wind noise and improved fuel economy.
As for the "smart solutions" touted by Galhotra, the narrow confines of Indian streets make driving even the tiniest cars a challenge. To give the Figo Concept a one-up on the competition, Ford has fitted power-folding mirrors that sport a "flexible architecture," which should stand up well to bumps from cars, people or bikes. We don't have any interior images, but Ford is promising a large cabin, that includes a dock that can accommodate a phone or MP3 player, allowing either to be controlled through the car.

Ford investing $500M in engine plant for 2.7L EcoBoost production

Sun, 30 Mar 2014

Ohio is a hot area for Ford at the moment with the announcement just a few weeks ago that production of the next-generation F-650/F-750 medium-duty trucks would move from Mexico to the Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, Ohio. Now, Ford is investing $500 million to hire 300 workers at its Lima Engine Plant in Lima, Ohio, to add production of the twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 for the 2015 F-150.
The latest investment will be used to add a new flexible engine assembly system and renovate 700,000 square feet of the plant for machining and assembly areas. The Lima factory already builds Ford's 3.5-liter and 3.7-liter Duratec V6 engines. The plant opened in 1957, and it's on track to build its 40 millionth engine later this year.
Ford claims that the 2.7-liter EcoBoost will offer V8 performance with better efficiency in the F-150. It comes standard with intelligent stop/start that doesn't activate when the truck is towing or in four-wheel drive, and it's made from a combination of compacted graphite iron and aluminum for low weight and high strength. The company says that V6 engines have already proven popular in the F-150 with 57 percent of trucks in 2014 being equipped with either the naturally aspirated 3.7-liter or turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines.
