1964 Ford Thunderbird

This car is a true garage find.  I found this car last year (2013) sitting in a garage with a few other cars.  I purchased it from the family of a man who bought it on 4-24-1964. He was the 2nd owner.  This man passed away in 2004.  According to his family this car had been sitting for about 15 - 20 years.  The family told me this was his "toy".  They also told me this car was always garage kept.  I believe mileage is correct, although I have no documentation to prove it.  I bought it because I could tell it was obviously well cared for and in very good condition.  My intention was to keep the car for myself, but now I have other projects I am working on.  This is a beautiful well preserved car that will get attention wherever it goes!

Cars does run and is drive-able, but does need some work.

All buyers want to know "whats wrong with it?".  It is my intention to disclose anything I know good or bad about this car.  Keep in mind I have only driven this car a few miles since I have owned it.  Listed are things I know about the car:

Body:  -  It has had a repaint at some time, there is some overspray in the fender wells and on the tailpipes.
           -  All body lines line up.
           -  Paint is enamel, has a few chips and scratches, overall in good "driver" condition.
           -  Chrome is in good condition, has some pitting (pictured)
          -  Area around the top windshield trim on the drivers side as been "caulked" (pictured).  Not sure why this was done.
           -  Does not appear to have any rust issues,

Tires    -  Tires are dated 1997 and still have the "tits" on the tread. Tread is 100%.

Engine  -  390 Z code. Thunderbird 390 Special V-8 (300 Horsepower) 4-Barrel Ford Carburetor with Dual Exhaust System
            -  I have not changed any fluids, replaced any hoses, or done any tune up.
          -  The A/C does not work.  From my inspection it appears all of the components are there.
           -  Sometimes the engine "hesitates" (see video)
           -  Sometimes has a "squeeling" sound from either a belt or pulley (see video)

Brakes   - I have replaced the master cylinder and wheel cylinders.
             -  Brakes are not that great and need more work, maybe a booster.

Transmission  -  Cruise-O-Matic (Automatic, 3-Speed).
                    -  Has a leak that will need repairs.

Interior  -  Overall in good "driver" condition
            -  The passenger side power window does not work.  You can hear the motor when you push the switch.  It has to manually be push up.  I think it may be off the tracks or a roller is broken.
             -  The back power windows do not work.  The passenger side motor makes noise.  The driver side does nothing.
             -  The radio does not work.
            -  Carpet is in poor condition. It is stained and torn(pictured)
            -  There is a tear on the drivers armrest, and drivers seat (pictured).
           -  Interior chrome has pitted areas and will need detailing (pictured).

Documentation that is included:  -  1964 Owners Manual
 -  Retail Buyers Order form from April 28, 1964
 -  Invoice from April 28, 1964

As you can see this car does need some work.  I would do the repairs myself but I just do not have the time right now.

Ford posts record pre-tax Q3 profit of $2.6B

Thu, 24 Oct 2013

Ford took in $2.6 billion in pre-tax profits in the third quarter of the year, making for a record trio of months that saw the Blue Oval's year-over-year earnings increase by $426 million. The earnings are being attributed not just to improvements in North American sales, but sales around the globe.
Revenue was up 12 percent, to $36 billion, although net income took a hit, dropping $359 million to $1.3 billion. Ford was dinged with $498 million in pre-tax charges, which are being blamed for the drop in net income.
The news has boosted Ford's hopes for full-year results, bumping it's total profits up past $8 billion, according to Automotive News. The Dearborn, MI-based manufacturer is still expecting a loss in Europe, although it's forecasted less than the $1.73 billion it burned in 2012. In fact, according to CFO Bob Shanks, Ford's European losses dropped by 51 percent year-over year, a huge improvement for the brand.

Texan finds creative way to clear highway fast lane

Tue, Jun 14 2016

Few things are as infuriating as someone driving slow in the fast lane. A Jeep driver from Texas found himself in just such a predicament near Fort Worth, and came up with a creative way to urge the offending lane-blocker to get a move on. Machine, a YouTuber and off-road enthusiast from the Lone Star State, posted some dashcam footage to his account back in March which showed him stuck behind a slow driver. He was attempting to pass a slow-moving bobtail Peterbilt tractor when he got hung up by a white Ford Econoline squatting in the passing lane. On his YouTube page, Machine stated that the van, which apparently belonged to a plumbing company, was traveling along between 60 and 70 miles per hour along a stretch of highway with a stated speed limit of 70 mph. Confronted with the slow-moving van blocking the left lane, and traffic in the right lane, Machine called the number on the back of the Econoline and politely asked him to get out of the way. In the Econoline, the passenger picked up and was momentarily confused as Machine asked him to ask his driver to move out of the lane and let traffic pass. The van sped up, passed a tractor-trailer, and got out of the way, much to the relief of the traffic behind him. According to CBS news, 38 states have laws on the books to punish slow drivers squatting in the passing lane. In five of those states, the fine is upwards of $1000, and 22 states classify it as a misdemeanor. Can an actual Ford F-150 ride on 4 Power Wheels F-150s?

Tue, Dec 9 2014

A lot of kids are rough on their toys, especially when it comes to those made to be used outside, like a four-wheeled kid-size Power Wheels. Whether it's cruising through the sand box, carrying piles of rocks in the driveway or crashing around trees in the backyard, these motorized vehicles often take punishment from the moment the giftwrap comes off. The folks at Fisher-Price decided to give their latest F-150 Power Wheels a true torture test worse than any kid could have ever managed by setting a real 2015 Ford F-150 on top of four of them. Would the little toy trucks explode in a shower of plastic shards in a massive collapse, and if not, could they drive away afterwards? The latest F-150 might be 700 pounds lighter thanks to the switch to aluminum, but it's still a fullsize pickup. According to this clip, the truck weighs in at 4,120 pounds, which puts an average of 1,030 pounds on each of the toys. Check out the video above to see how the stunt goes, and click on the gallery below for some behind-the-scenes looks at the setup.
