For sale is a beautiful 1963 Ford Thunderbird. I am the 3rd owner and got the car from a woman who drove it 300 miles a year for the past 30 years. It has been my daily driver for the past half a year but I'm a college student and could use the money.

Exterior: The paint is very nice, the only flaw is a small scrape on the passenger door. The white stripe tires have 3/4 tread and all feature upgraded hubcaps. The car has all the trim and the chrome and rare emblems are in good shape. Very little pitting. All the lights work, parking/brake lights/head lights/highbeams. All registration and tags are up to date. The car has both original license plates and skirts. The body is extremely straight and all doors, trunk, and hood close solidly. The trunk features a hidden lock behind the thunderbird emblem. All glass is in tact.

Engine/Transmission: 390 Ford big block. Runs strong. Will cruise on the freeway at 70 mph all day. The power steering and power brakes allow for an extremely smooth ride. New spark plugs, spark plug wires, alternator, distributor, battery, radiator hose, etc. Everything else is original. It starts up the first time with ease. Recently changed oil and flushed transmission. The transmission was rebuilt about 10 years ago and shifts easily. There is a small leak coming from the middle of the transmission but the car is still driveable. The car is fairly quiet and has a single exhaust on the passenger side.

Interior: The upholstery is decent. The cab and trunk are lined with carpet and rubber mats and the door panels, seats, dash, and package tray are all upholstered.. The front two seats show signs of wear and are beginning to crack. The side-view mirror is electric and the car features working a/c and heat, odometer/speedometer, and original am radio. The window motors work but the switches in the center console are not currently hooked up. All interior trim and stainless steel are in good shape as well. Interior door lights, ceiling light, dash light, gauge lights, and glove box light works. Both doors and trunk lock. Unique to this generation and model is the swing away steering wheel. By lifting the shifter up, the steering wheel swings right from driving position to allow for easier access in and out of the driver's seat. The front two seats have aftermarket airplane style seatbelts installed that are easily removable to return to stock. The headliner is in very good shape as well. Everything is for the most part complete and original.

The car comes with a trunk-full of spare parts, trim, extra hubcaps, jack, etc.

Next Lincoln Navigator to drop V8 in favor of V6, but Ford Expedition might get both

Tue, 12 Mar 2013

A great many buyers fled from full-size body-on-frame SUVs to car-based crossovers in large measure to save fuel. But that doesn't mean there's still not a buying audience for more traditional truck-based utility vehicles, and those consumers doubtlessly wouldn't mind saving some dollars at the pump, too. According to Motor Trend, those shoppers might be in luck.
That's because the magazine has confirmed that Ford isn't walking away from the full-size SUV segment, and it's poised to do something about its offerings' economy ratings, too. According to MT, global Lincoln director Matt VanDyke has hinted that the next Navigator may drop two cylinders and go with a V6 model - the current model gets just 14 miles per gallon in the city and 20 on the highway from its 5.4-liter V8. The obvious fitment would be Ford's 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, an engine that has spread like kudzu throughout the rest of the Blue Oval's large vehicle lineup.
Downsized turbocharged engines like Ford's EcoBoost franchise have come under fire as of late for not delivering their EPA fuel economy ratings, but their benefits extend beyond consumption - the 3.5L offers superior power and a better torque curve than the naturally aspirated V8. MT also suggests that Ford's 3.7-liter V6 could form the base engine for the next Navi - it has similar horsepower but a lot less torque than the current 5.4L. That may be less of a problem with the next generation tipped to go on a diet, which could level the playing field somewhat.

EPA says fuel economy test for hybrids is accurate

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

The EPA says it stands behind its fuel economy test for hybrid vehicles following controversy about the testing process after Ford C-Max Hybrid customers and automotive journalists alike struggled to achieve 47 miles per gallon, the advertised mpg number, Automotive News reports. Ford responded to the issue almost two weeks ago by claiming that a 1970s-era EPA general label rule was responsible for the inaccurate mileage numbers, rerating the C-Max Hybrid's mpg numbers and offering customers rebates. Ford later said it didn't overstate the C-Max Hybrid's fuel economy and that it was surprised by the low numbers.
Ford technically didn't do anything wrong because it was following the general label rule, but agency regulator Christopher Grundler says the automaker was exploiting a loophole when it came up with the hybrid C-Max numbers, and that the testing process remains accurate. The general label rule allows vehicles that use the same engine and transmission and are in the same weight class to share fuel economy numbers, but it doesn't take into account other factors such as aerodynamic efficiency, which affects hybrids more drastically than non-hybrid vehicles. Ford originally used the Fusion Hybrid economy figures for the C-Max Hybrid and claimed the engineers didn't realize that its aerodynamic efficiency would affect fuel economy as much as it did.
