VIN: D7FH266737 Flame Red Exterior with White Interior; 312 Cubic Inch/245 HP Engine; Hard Top and Soft Top; Automatic; Amos Minter Thunderbird; “Pink Slip” California Car; Numbers Matching; Original Colors; Power Steering; Power Brakes. This 1957 Ford Thunderbird was built in Dearborn, Michigan on April 12, 1957. Amos Minter of Dallas, Texas purchased the car out of California. It was a California “Pink Slip” car with perfect metal. It had been well maintained over the years and was not in need of restoration. Minter inspected and updated the car with an alternator, stereo, and power steering. He also added wire wheels and the related helper springs. The Thunderbird was then sold to a client of Fox Motorsports in Michigan in late 2002. That owner used it occasionally in nice weather and has always stored it properly when not in use. It has not been driven in winter months or used in bad weather. The car went back to Minter after purchase for an updated radiator fan and shroud, to help engine cooling during summer parades. The brakes and electrical system were recently gone through by Fox Motorsports and were updated and improved (see below). The car drives great and is well sorted. The exterior of the Thunderbird is very nice. The paint is bright and shiny, with no swirling or abrasions. It does show its age with a few imperfections and a couple of chips and touch-ups. The chrome is excellent. The interior is also excellent, with very little wear. The hard-top is in very good condition too. The included white soft top is in serviceable condition and would need recovering to be perfect. The underside of the car is very good and appears to be original. There is undercoating covering the underside (perhaps dealer installed when new) but no repairs, damage, or rust are evident. Ford expands air bag recall nationwide
Thu, Dec 18 2014Ford Motor Co. has agreed to government demands to expand a driver's side air bag inflator recall to the entire U.S. The move announced Thursday adds 447,000 Ford vehicles to the list of those recalled due to driver's inflators made by Japan's Takata Corp. The inflators can explode with too much force, spewing shrapnel into drivers and passengers. Ford's action puts pressure on BMW and Chrysler, the only two automakers that haven't agreed to national recalls. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration made the demand of five automakers, saying the inflators are dangerous. Honda and Mazda already took their recalls national. Previously the recalls were limited to high-humidity states mainly along the Gulf Coast. The Ford national recall covers certain 2005 to 2008 Mustangs and 2005 and 2006 GT sports cars. The company also announced it would recall the same cars in Canada, Mexico and a few other countries. Thursday's announcement brings to just over 502,000 the number of Ford vehicles under recall for Takata driver's side air bags. The company said it knows of one accident and injury from the problems, in a 2007 Mustang in North Carolina. Dealers will replace the inflators at no cost to customers. Last month, NHTSA demanded that Takata and the five automakers recall driver's inflators across the nation.Takata and Chrysler have refused and could face legal action. BMW says it's still evaluating the demand. Takata hired the New York public relations firm Sard Verbinnen & Co. and took out full-page advertisements Thursday in newspapers including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and three German publications. The ads, featuring a letter from Chairman and CEO Shigehisa Takata, said the company will work with NHTSA and automakers to expand the recalls by increasing production capacity for replacement air bags. The company said it's exploring whether other companies' air bags can be used in replacement kits, and it's increasing testing to find the exact cause of the problems. "Takata will work in unison with automakers to advance our common goal of putting the safety of customers first," the letter said. But in documents filed with NHTSA, Takata refused to do a national recall, saying it's not supported by testing data. The company also said NHTSA didn't have the authority to order a parts supplier to do a recall, and that only automakers can conduct them.
James Franco and tiger tease Ford Super Bowl commercial
Sat, 01 Feb 2014Ford has just released a teaser for its Super Bowl ad, and unlike just about every other automaker, it seems that the Blue Oval is going to make us wait until Sunday to see the full spot. The teaser is, um, strange.
It stars James Franco, who believes he is Ron Riggle, the comedian, Fox NFL Sunday host and retired Marine lieutenant colonel. There's also a tiger. The vague spot has Franco claiming that "this is no ordinary commercial." You'll note on the bottom right, there's a Ford logo and the hashtag #nearlydouble.
According to Automotive News, it's part of a massive viral effort being pushed forward by Ford and its dealerships. Ford sent different teasers and "vignettes" to dealership employees and asked them to share them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, in the hopes of creating a viral effect.
Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has a bit of a dyno issue
Tue, 28 May 2013We're of the mind that each and every dyno should come with Murphy's Law painted in big, visible letters down the side. For every ten successful dyno runs out there, it seems there's one where events to horribly wrong. Take, for example, the video below. The clip shows what happens when a Ford Shelby GT500 and a mobile dyno have a bit of a disagreement at the Performance Expo 24 in Sherbrooke, Quebec. We won't spoil the results for you, but we will say there's some substantial carnage involved.
It's unclear just how much damage ensues from the dust up or whether anyone was harmed in the incident, but from the looks of things, everyone made it out without serious injury. If only we could say the same for the machines involved. Check out the video below.
