True Story: (what happened to me of course every car guy dreams of; maybe more on the lines of a 58 Corvette or a 50 Merc or a all steel duece but alas it was a ranchero). I am standing in line at the auto parts store one day back in 2010 and a woman comes up behind me a casually says, " you look like a car guy!? I have a car you might be interested in!?" (Of course in milleseconds my mind raced over the possibilities). She goes on to tell me that her father recently passed away and she had been named executor of the estate and was liquidating all of her families assets which included numerous cars of which there was only one left and it was what she felt to be the best one (now my mind is REALLY GOING!); a 1977 Ford Ranchero GT (my mind went "too new for me", bummer, oh well) as she kept on into her speel about it having been bought by her dad for her mom in 1977 (I have the original reg.) and she used it primarily on their 600 acre horse ranch running hay from one barn to another and then occasionally into town for groceries. Mom got sick and quit driving in 96 and passed away in 98. The car basicly sat on the ranch with virtually no use until dad passed away. Oh and it only has just over 25000 miles! Well, now I AM INTERESTED cuz if the price is right this could be a good investment! We went out and I checked it all out and it certainly was clean and original except that it had a recent paint job. She indicated that dad had it resprayed after it sitting in one of the barns for 12 years and was planning on driving it when he then got sick. Anyways, we dickered back and forth and I felt sorry for her predicament so, here we are.. I have spent the last couple of years with her but there truly has only been one owner of this car in my mind, me just being a temperary caretaker.
The first thing I did was take it to my mechanic where he drained and flushed the engine, trans rear end and radiator and replaced all the fluids with ne. Then he removed and replaced all the radiator hoses, vaccuum hoses and belts. He also drained the a/c and replace the o-rings and recharged it with new gas. New plugs and wires and a carb rebuild and it was set for smog certification and tags.
I have put 3000 miles on it in 3 years, replaced the carb and the fuel pump. Also had to replace the voltage regulator. I had to plug one tire and I replaced the headliner with a factory replacement. I also patched the passenger side interior door jamb because of a mouse nest built inside the fender back when it sat idle. The air compressor took a dump last year and I have not replaced it but I am such an honest car guy that I will discount the selling price 150.00 for a replacement. The only thing not repaired is a non working gas gauge and clock.
This car rides like a Cadillac; no joke! It drives easily with one finger and the brakes are strong and smooth. The paint is a beautiful 5 footer, having its minimal amount of stone chips but not one dent in the entire exterior of the body except for two nickel sized dents on the back bed area; one on the back wall and one in the tailgate area. For any of you lucky enough to live in a smog free state? This car is ripe for enhancements!
The current value pricing on this car in the NADA Guide is: Low;6020 Avg.;13785 High;21050
This car easily falls into the Avg. class but I am setting the reserve MORE THAN HALF below that. Don't bother me with asking about it. I figure that I can make alittle on this car and let the next guy enjoy it and be able to make something off of it too. I'm all about enjoyable experiences when it come to cars. I certainly reserve the right to cancel this auction at any time as I have the car for sale elsewhere also.
Hurry while you can for THIS CAR WILL SELL because I am not being stingy and I don't need to sell it!!! Take this opportunity to pick something up that you can get some enjoyment out of and still make a profit! It don't get no better than that!

Ford dealer loses Super Bowl bet, pays $300K to lucky customers [w/video]
Tue, 11 Feb 2014A Missouri Ford dealership's Super Bowl weekend sale cost it big when the improbable happened. Hutcheson Ford ran a promotion from January 29 to February 1, called the Super Weekend Sale. The gist was, if any customer purchased a vehicle between those dates and either the opening or second-half kickoff of the big game was returned for a touchdown, the dealership would refund the purchase price.
In the dealership's defense, it seemed like a safe bet. According to the mathematicians, there was just a 2.5-percent chance of either half opening with a touchdown return. But that didn't stop Seattle's Percy Harvin from doing his part to ruin Denver's evening, returning the second-half kick for an 87-yard touchdown run. Twelve Hutcheson customers were eligible for refunds thanks to the return, with prices ranging from $10,000 to $55,000, according to Automotive News. The total amount shelled out by the dealership? $300,000.
"At least we're not like that furniture guy that lost $7 million," dealership marketing manager Kathleen Frazier told AN. We think it was a big success." The dealership did take out insurance to cover its losses, meaning the $300K won't come entirely from its pockets.
Ford bringing adaptive steering to the masses [w/video]
Thu, 29 May 2014Within the next year, Ford will offer a brand-new adaptive steering system (unimaginatively dubbed "Ford Adaptive Steering"), and this week, the automaker invited us out to its proving grounds in Dearborn, MI to get a taste for how its new setup works. In function, Ford's system doesn't greatly differ from the majority of other adaptive steering units already on the market from companies like Audi or BMW, but consider this: Ford will be the first non-luxury automaker to offer this technology, and uniquely, the whole system fits inside the car's steering wheel.
Ford's engineers have worked hard to create a system that can be tacked on to the company's full lineup of cars, trucks and utility vehicles, and says that the adaptive steering will be uniquely tuned for each specific vehicle. The automaker will not confirm exactly which vehicle will launch with this technology, but for the purpose of our preview, we tested the technology in a 2014 Fusion - a vehicle with already-good behind-the-wheel feel, one that the company says best demonstrates its current steering efforts.
Cadillac Escalade gets $5,000 discount to ward off Lincoln Navigator
Wed, Nov 8 2017General Motors apparently isn't going to let early good reception for the redesigned Lincoln Navigator steal thunder from its own luxury SUV without a fight. It's offering a $5,000 discount on the purchase or lease of the Cadillac Escalade this month to any buyer who trades in a 1999 or newer Lincoln model, Bloomberg reports. GM spokesman Jim Cain told Bloomberg the incentive is being offered to keep prices competitive for the Escalade. The 2018 Navigator starts at $72,055, compared to $73,995 for the Escalade, but the outgoing version of the Navigator is selling for an average of around $53,000, compared with more than $80,000 on average for the Escalade, he said. The Escalade was the top-selling domestic luxury SUV in October and No. 4 in the segment, according to Motor Intelligence. It far outsold the Navigator, which last saw a refresh in 2015 and a full redesign in 2007. But Ford is hoping to gain back some ground with the new Navigator and updated Expedition, which also trails the Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevy Suburban in its segment. Bloomberg notes that one Morgan Stanley analyst estimates that GM owns a $2 billion annual pretax profit edge in the lucrative luxury sport utility segment. Our recent First Drive review called the new Navigator "far superior to its primary competitor, the Cadillac Escalade."Related Video:
